Calderwood goes

Thanks to him for helping turn last season around and all the best for the future! Would love to see Thommo back.. and KS is an interesting shout too.. he certainly always had the right work ethic!

A bit of a hammer blow as you would think he had much to do with improving our defence. I wonder whether it could adversely affect Ballard's decision?

Yes he was

"Blackpool FC is delighted to announce the appointment of Colin Calderwood as an Assistant Head Coach"

Assistant TO the regional manager.

Calderwood's nous and knowledge of League 1 was a major plus, hopefully the club is looking for someone with a sinilar set of skills with knowledge of the Championship.

Where have you got that from? He was an assistant head coach alongside Mike Garrity to Neil Critchley, being one of two assistant head coaches still makes him an assistant head coach. I have absolutely no idea what an assistant TO the regional manager is, all assistant managers/coaches are assistants to the manager/head coach - who else would they be assistant to?

From the club website which hasn't been updated:

Could understand it if was manager/coach but assistant?🤔
Big blow that.
Must admit, I thought he might stay with promotion etc. However, I'd asked on a few threads about his contract status with no answer as I feared he would go.

I'm only in favour of appointed decent level experience. Thommo fits the bill, but can he coach the defence too? Please no Keith Southern.

A big, big appointment this one. On the plus side they would have known that CC was going to leave and you'd hope irons are already in the fire.

It shows his lack of ambition. We're an attractive proposition now so we should be able to get somebody equal or better.

It might also stop all these people stating he was instrumental in our success when a lot was down to all the new players who came in.

In Critch we trust
Not saying the success was entirely down to him, that would be churlish. However his tactical awareness was a big factor.

BRING IN EVO NOW CRITCHLEY OUT OF HIS DEPTH

etc etc.....
Not sure what planet you're on but it isn't the same as mine. Yes it's a sad loss, but we will replace well as a Championship Club and Critchley will continue on his development aimed at being one of the best Head Coaches in the country. That will be the time to worry. How long can we hang on to Critch?

Don't know if it's connected, but I noticed how his name didn't seem to get a mention by the manager, players or boardroom staff, in their interviews, following the successful season.

He's on Planet Satire. Are you new around here? He's being doing this for years. I posted "We're doomed!" Same.

Some of our fans clung to the notion that we needed a proper man's man to hold little Critch's hand, and apparently can't completely let go of that notion cos they wrote their own version of the story in which Calderwood rode to the rescue on a big white horse, and let another proper man with tattoos out of his cell to help him, who then palled up with another tattooed hero to fire the bullets and we might have got relegated otherwise. In the hands of baby faced Critchley, who should've been drummed out of town. 🤠

Strange to go as assistant again somewhere else as his stock would have gone up following promotion.
So If he thought travelling from Northampton was too much, why did he come here in the first place.
Although I dont know what happens behind the scenes at bloomfield road I think he had a positive effect and our turn around in good fortune started when he was appointed.
I wish him well at Northampton and hope the club get in a just as competent assistant for critch.

Keith Southern it is then. 😉

We did well to get him in, I’m sure NC has learnt a lot about league football and how to defend etc. But Critch is a student of the game and will have absorbed what he saw. Perhaps there is a role for a defensive coach and an experienced right hand man, but the last thing he wants is looking over his shoulder at someone who might have loftier ambitions!

I can see another ex Pool player coming in here, a Baptiste type perhaps, undoubtedly Critchley will know someone in the game to fill those boots.

No ill feeling from me toward Calderwood, he certainly made a difference and played a part in our promotion, so thanks for all the fish!

Loads of coaches with Calderwood's experience. If Critchley feels he needs another coach then he'll get one who will bring further additional skills to the club. I'm sure he made a contribution here but it's not a big deal as far as I'm concerned.

He lives in Northants so it's hardly unexpected. He came in, did well but he certainly isn't irreplaceable and I am sure we will get someone who is just as good and probably better. I guess it will be someone none of us predicts, but Keith Southern would be great.

I just hope that we don't have another Jimmy Mullen/ Len Ashurst situation when we got relegated the following season after
the experienced Ashurst left. Hopefully, we have already got an experienced coach lined up.

He was a contributing factor in our success along with the transfers at the end of the window such as Gretarson Ballard and Dougal to complement what was already here. Not the sole reason for our success but still a big miss.

Lytham, I like reading your posts mate but got to disagree with you on this one.
What we all seem to forget is that when Critch arrived it was his first time as a league manager and to achieve what he has is quite remarkable under the circumstances.
I agree that our form improved with the arrival of Calderwood so we will now see how Critch continues.
The strange thing is why CC has left. The whole thing does not make sense.
Who knows what has gone on in the background.

It was a quote from The Office. Need to understand my audience better I think!
Hahaha bloody hell I have seen it actually but it was a while back, soon as you said that Dwight popped into my head saying it. Apologies, can be hard to gauge tone through text - try an emoji next time 😉

Obviously not interested in being a number one again and assistant right where he lives is a no brainer I expect. Nowt to see here. He did have an influence on Critch and the club whilst he was here. Thanks Coach Calders!

Makes perfect sense once you realise he lives in Northampton. Nothing strange about it. The guy is clearly happy as a no. 2 (despite what @20togo would have you believe) and this role is on his doorstep.

Not even commented on the thread and I don't dispute the point he's took the role to be nearer to home. It's still a fact that he's taken four managers jobs though so your point/dig is irrelevant.
once again though Mr ** tracing expert bottles out of entering a racing tipster competition even when the races are on the flat..

.

Doesn't look like a normal head / assistant coach thing from the Northampton site. International academy possibly a different model entirely and wanting in on the ground.

To be fair the whole Maddy death scene is one of the most devastating in the history of TV.
The Office and Twin Peaks in one thread. Good AVFTTing.
