Maxwell - 9 MOTM
Connolly - 7.5 Quite like him but still need another RB.
Keogh - 7.5 Experience will be vital.
Husband - 5.5 Defending was ok bar one mishap. Passing was woeful, constantly missed the good runs been made and when he did I make a pass it went nowhere, not his best game.
Garbutt - 6 Didn’t do much, delivery was poor.
Ward - 8.5 Had a really good game, still think he’d be better further forward.
Dougall - 6 Started way off the pace but grew into game slowly.
Hamilton (Off 62’) - 3 Was awful, literally did nothing right.
Anderson - 7 Was ok without been amazing.
John-Jules (Off 76’) - 7.5 Seems a high nark but for me he closed down well and made good runs but didn’t get found.
Yates - 6.5 Not found his feet yet but hold uo play was decent.

Bowler (On 62’) - 8 Did more in 1 minute than Hamilton did all game. Has to start for me, can actually beat a man.
Lavery (On 76’) 7.5 Had good pace and is a terrier. Terrified them and can mix it with a bit of shithousery. Has to start or at least come on earlier.

Today was a bad day really, we were 2nd best in pretty much every department from the start. Think we need to wise up a bit.

Maxwell - Didnt have the support , and little chance ( especially with the second goal ) , but kept the score line down . A decent 8/10
Connolly - Decent enough under the circumstances 6/10
Keogh - Doesn’t fill me with confidence. Need the Ice man back 6/10
Husband - Wasn’t a standout performance, but hardly his worst either 6/10
Garbutt - Bad day at the office. Delivery was very poor. 4/10
Ward - Steady enough game on the whole 7/10
Dougall - Not at his best, but did ok 6/10
Hamilton (Off 62’) - Looked way out if his depth today. Confidence looked shot on that sole performance. 4/10
Anderson - Became more effective after the substitutions. 7/10
John-Jules (Off 76’) - Early days, but he’s not the answer 5/10
Yates - Didnt get the service he thrives on. Looked a bit lost at times in the land of the giants. 6/10 ( 10/10 for the constant arm waving of disgruntlement )

Bowler (On 62’) - 8/10 Hindsight is a wonderful thing, and both substitutions should have been made earlier, as both changed the style of play dramatically
Lavery (On 76’) - 8/10 I can see the potential in fast becoming a fans favourite.

overall team performance 4/10 first hour , better last 20 minutes 6/10
Man ( or Woman ) of the match: Bloomfield Bear 11/10. Made my kids trip all the more memorable 👍🏻

Overall very slow start to the game. Obviously no empircal evidence but when we start off on the front foot we generally keep it going and it sets the tone. It seems very hard to flick a switch part way through a game, until the last 15 minutes when perhaps through desperation of losing like yesterday we get going. Obviously this also usually corresponds with subs coming on.

I think the defence and GK really set the tone for the game and this is where we also fell down yesterday with too much sideways and backwards passing. The number of times good runs were missed yesterday was really frustrating with forwards not getting the ball released to them and end ing up stood 10 yards offside or having to run backwards to get onside.

Also how close to the box does a free kick have to be for us to get it in the box. I reckon half a dozen times yesterday we had free kicks at least 10 yards in the opposition half only for us to pass it sideways, backwards and on a few occasions back to Maxwell.

I thought we had the mix better on Wednesday with still lots of controlled football at the back but then the ball getting released forward at the right time. Ekpiteta must have touched the ball almost as much as the whole of our attack and midfield put together for the first 25 minutes but a few times at least he spotted a great pass out wide or through the midfield

I'm not too despondent though, we've a lot of new players learning to play together and adapt to the Critchley style.

Lets see what happens on Tuesday night !!

Pretty much agree with this but John Jules cant get extra points because he didnt get service...he was poor yesterday and made nothing happen...Carey Lavery and Bowler should ALL start against Coventry. CJ is bang out of form John Jules hasnt done it yet (and struggled in League 1 last season) and Dougall and Ward didnt work yesterday. Lets give Coventry something to think about and get at them with Yates and Lavery chasing everything

Just a quick update. Wanted to get the results up tonight but I’m feeling a little under the weather so will get them up tomorrow after work. Bed time for me. 🤮

Apologies for the delay in getting these posted, I'm still not well this evening. Thanks to the 22 of you who all kindly submitted your ratings for what was a disappointing defeat but one I think we will learn a lot from.

On average across all players we had an average rating of 5.88 out of 10. If we take out the players who played less than 60 minutes (Bowler & Lavery) that drops to 5.69. Surely we should expect to see both players in the starting 11 against Coventry City tomorrow?

For the second game running CJ Hamilton was the lowest scorer with a 3.82. CJ is I think a victim of the slower build up as his main (and arguably) only strength is getting in behind with his pace and the more we play in front of teams the less likely this is to happen. Currently over the three games played (averaging 68 minutes a match) CJ's average rating is just 5.07. In comparison, Bowler (averaging 42 minutes a match) has an average rating of 7.8.

Perhaps coming at no surprise the highest rated player was Chris Maxwell who scored 7.77. Elsewhere Richard Keogh was the highest rated defender with 6.45, Bowler the highest rated midfielder with 7.11 and Lavery the highest rated attacker with 6.82.

The least impressed member was @BlackpoolJord who scored
4.54 whereas @Brett&Murphs. scored highest with a 6.88.

Great summary CT again hope you’re feeling better for tomorrow night 👍

Bump. Just incase anyone missed it and would like to see the results before tonight. 👍
Thanks for taking the time to do this CT, very interesting and ends up giving a decent general view of how players performed.

Just my view but I think some have been exceptionally harsh - 2s and 3s when our players were in their first home game in a higher league? We were second best yes, but if anyone thinks any of our players deserved a two then you haven't been around very long. I've seen far worse performances than what we saw on Saturday.

Yep, was a difficult game against a side that plays well to their strengths. I thought we actually did well to get ourselves back into the game after we went 1-0 down and then unfortunately we was hit on the counter but at least we got hold off the game and started to look more dangerous. I don’t put my own ratings in but my lowest mark would have been CJ and I would have rated him a 4/5. I mentioned it above but I don’t think this style of play suits him, his first touch isn’t the best so balls into feet with a defender on his back aren’t any good, he needs the ball playing in behind so he can use his pace to unsettle the defence.

Agreed, he was my lowest score along with two others, with 5. To give a rating of 2 it would have to be something inexplicably terrible. John O'Kane getting outjumped by a 5 foot Leon Knight to score, for example.
