Colby Bishop

It’s a simple as he will have a medical condition/issue that we decide is to big a risk, Pompey will look at the same condition/illness and decide it’s not a deal breaker - all about opinions
'It's all about opinions' - obviously health issues, possible breakdowns, insurance etc. play no role

I know we keep mentioning Simms name as a player we'd have in an ideal world. However, there is no way we should be allowing a London club of similar size to ourselves to get a North West based player of Simms ability for such a cheap price. Especially one that's tried and tested, and can't not be on our radar.
All that said, I highly doubt £500k would get him.

With Kirk, £500k was only ever an option, the club decided not to exercise it and the loan never became a permanent.

With Bishop, the fee is the fee agreed with Portsmouth, why would the club offer than then decide he's not worth it within a day?

My best guess, the agent's tried to insert a release clause, and if BFC are paying £500k for him, they're not going to stand for that.
I doubt it would be that, Bishop is 25 and you would imagine his best years are ahead of him. Cowley has said his desire to play in the Championship and test himself at the highest level he can was why he chose us and not for more money than Pompey were offering. If we had said no to a release clause you can’t imagine him pushing for it as we are the only Championship option he has.

Did you read my post?? ‘condition/medical issues’ = health issues, possible breakdowns. ‘Take the risk’ = injury risk, insurance etc !!

Possibly, although the fact that he wants the move doesn't mean he won't try to get the best contract he can out of it, anyway there are plenty of other ways in which the goalposts could've been moved.

If it's the player/agent holding up the deal then I expect he'll still end up here, if it's medical then he'll stay at Stanley, and if he ends up; at Portsmouth then god knows what's happened.

It’s clearly a moving picture as Accy are keeping quiet to so something is still going on with him moving somewhere.

The thing that most seem to have ignored is that throughout this there has been absolutely no words about the player from the club, absolutely nothing. It's all been from the media and Accrington and Portsmouth. It's all very strange and now there is absolutely nothing from any of the clubs.

The only factual thing is Coleman at Accy saying he is talking to another club lol 😂

Interesting that the clubs themselves are very quiet on this as they normally piss all over and blame each other! I’m sure it will all become clear in a few days

Medical issues would make most sense. Rumours of another striker lined up will be nonsense!
Find it weird that Pompey would continue their interest if it was a medical matter?

Accrington Stanley boss John Coleman has suggested that "everyone is a winner" as Portsmouth close in on a move to sign striker Colby Bishop.

Pompey are hoping to finally complete the signing of the 25-year-old forward after a transfer saga this week, in which it looked like they had missed out on the Accrington striker to Championship club Blackpool, only for the Tangerines to end their interest, paving the way for Bishop to sign for the Blues.

Players don't pass or fail medicals, the medicals provide the club and the insurance companies with a report on the player, injuries, fitness etc.

Each club is free to proceed with the transfer however they wish after the medical and the information it throws up.

There's really only two explanations to this given what's been reported.

1. Something came up on the medical we really didn't fancy and we pulled out - Portsmouth seeing the same medical report think the risk is worth it. - If it's bad enough for us to turn him down, I'd imagine it would also be as bad for Portsmouth to cancel the transfer as they're paying the same fee and I imagine similar wages. I can't see it being that therefore.

2. Before signing we made a breakthrough with another target and realise he's far better than Bishop so cancelled the Bishop deal to get the other one over the line. Seeing as no one has come in yet this also throws up a bit of doubt.

So perhaps it was 3. Some one was leaving last week/ early this week, Lavery, Keshi or Jerry for instance, that deal fell through and we couldn't then free up space in the squad or wage structure for Bishop so had to cancel his transfer.

Good luck to both Bishop and Pompey as I feel none of this was their wrong doing why we didn’t sign him.
If I’am being honest I think Bishop was poorly man handled from being on his way to Portsmouth then coming all the way back up here agreeing terms etc discussing it all with his family only to be told it’s all off.

Why is it strange that the clubs aren't releasing highly sensitive commercial information just to keep a handful of people on this site happy?

I think it makes more sense at this stage of the transfer window that we've identified a better target instead.

A lot of clubs decide what to do with their players when pre-seasons come to an end, especially for loans.

Pompey's equivalent of Matt Scrafton has reported that Bishop has now passed his medical with Pompey so god knows what that means regarding our decision:

Better player possibly available for us?
Board organised Bishop but MA didn't want him?
One of our 5 strikers were going but now aren't? MA has mentioned that a striker may depart so possibly not this one

I think a good few knew it wasn’t going to be a medical issue Bishop had just come off a season where he had played every game for Accy without the hint of a single injury.

Just my opinion, but I think scenario #3 is the more likely as it lines up with what Appleton has told the press regarding our four current strikers.

Just a simple question. Has anyone from Blackpool FC even said we had put a bid in , agreed terms etc with Bishop, or is this all media driven ?

Good point.

Maybe the club was never in for him, maybe this was Stanley trying to bump the fee up, alternatively perhaps they offered him to us, trying to get a bidding war going, we expressed an initial interest, talked terms with the player but in the end decided he didn't fit in with the club's transfer strategy.

There's been too much talk about specifics to mean the deal hadn't got close.

I just hope the Club haven't f'ed the player or AS off as we'd be seen as difficult to deal with on top of the Dale and Kirk business.

Pompey rag latest - Bishop FAILED his medical with BFC. So I guess no imminent new striker better than Bishop gazumped him.

Tell you what, we're going to end up with a massive dollop of egg on our face if he is League's One's Top Scorer and gets them promoted!
Remarkable we were so careful about him and yet have so many sick notes in our squad it's laughable!

The only single reason I can think of is we're back in for a higher on the list target. I doubt it's Simms but perhaps someone similar.

Or a move for Lavery/Beesley/Yates fell through.

Whatever the reason I’m pleased for him and for Portsmouth that a deal has been sorted. Pompey are a good club and their fans were very supportive of us in the dark days. Hope he helps get them promoted.
They were but a few threw their teddies out of the pram when they through we'd gazumped them. 😂
