Colby Bishop

Or maybe we are a Championship Club and told Bishop he will have to prove he's Championship standard before he gets the shirt.
A lot easier to be guaranteed a place at a Club in his comfort zone.
Maybe, I’m sure Bishop may disagree with that.

Chose Portsmouth over us is abit embarassing tbh, though I’m not that fussed we didn’t win him.

He may…

But “it felt like they wanted me more” is code for “I’m more likely to feature in the first team” if you ask me.
Maybe he felt we might be switching divisions next season, only playing devil’s advocate

We showed a last minute interest. Bishop felt Pompey went out to get him, manager named him as their number 1 target. He may fancy a change of scenery, south coast. He may think its possible that Pompey will swap places with us. He may struggle to get in our team. Around 10 goals a season in L1 isnt earth shattering.

Doesnt feel like he was high up our wish list. Not sure who is mind you...

Interestingly.... And maybe this is just me being over-analytical, but Bishop doesn't actually say that it was his decision not to come to Blackpool in that statement. He does say that he it was his decision to go to Portsmouth, but he's a bit more coy about how that came about ‘I spoke to the manager (Cowley), I was open with him, I said “I’ve got to have these conversations”. And from those conversations I’ve ended at Pompey and am happy with my decision.

So what does "And from those conversations, I've ended at Pompey and I'm happy with my decision" actually mean? It's certainly not the same as saying 'And as a result of those conversations, I decided to choose Pompey' that's for sure. It feels to me like a statement that is crafted to give an impression of one thing, whilst actually not saying that at all.

There's certainly nothing in what he has said there that suggests that Blackpool didn't pull the plug as was originally suggested.

I agree and having driven to Blackpool when on the verge of joining Pompey, he will have been keen to sound super keen to join them and say he wasnt really interested in Blackpool he just had to check it out etc.

Tell you what, we're going to end up with a massive dollop of egg on our face if he is League's One's Top Scorer and gets them promoted!
Remarkable we were so careful about him and yet have so many sick notes in our squad it's laughable!
Not sure on this either?
Jerry scored a hatful in Lg1 yet many are banging on he is not good enough for this level….

And Bishop hasnt scored a hatful in League One. We dont really want to keep accumulating L1 strikers.
Agreed.
I don’t get this narrative that I keep reading that we can’t negotiate or are poor in the market?

On a limited budget in the Champ and average budget in Lg1 we have unearthed some crackers and more success than failure. Rarely has anyone on here known about the signing until it happened.

The club quietly gets on with it and all the negative moaners speculate over why we didn’t buy Brannigan or Simms or Ballard yet somehow got Bowler, Marv, Grimmy etc.

I’d argue with confidence that the club is good at what it does, within our budget (which is revenue not how much the owner spends of his own money)

If it was a case of him having an offer from us to turn down then I suspect it would have been the choice between being a starting XI player, which he'll be at Pompey, or in the running with 4-5 others here and likely behind 2 or 3 at least. I'm not too fussed about this or the general approach to recruitment. I'm fine with the club keeping their business quiet.

I was'nt overly impressed with him, the fact Appleton wanted that type of front man I think most
of us accepted this is the player we must need. I dont feel we have missed out and sure something
better will come along soon.

What about Will Keane from Wigan ? Assuming Wigan would sell. Good record last season.
