Would you take out his option of an extra year on his contract. ?
I think the guy gives his all every game and is versatile. However he wouldn't be in my first eleven for any position.so a great bench player.
For a player who used to be a midfielder his passing and distribution is the worst in the team. He puts it into touch wether being pressurised or not. He is not creative in any way . I personally would not take the option.
It's all a matter of opinion of course.

Depends how high his wage is and if there's any clauses for a wage increase if his contract is extended etc. On a purely playing basis I think he's just about worth keeping as a squad player due to his versatility and effort.

Connolly has been one of our most consistent players this season, he always gives 100% every game irrespective of where he is asked to play. I think Connolly is under rated by some Blackpool fans who admire his versatility but don’t see him as a starter if everybody else is available. I have been amazed at the number of times I have seen Connolly this season on the floor after a challenge from an opponent and thinking he is going to have to come off and he has then got up in obvious pain, dusted himself down and just got on with it. I reckon Connolly has played most of his games this season in pain and carrying injuries which for some others in the Blackpool squad would have resulted in missing games. I do admire Connelly’s honesty but I wish he had gone down after that violent assault by Gyokeres on Saturday and tried to force the referee‘s hand.

Yes absolutely. One bad game every blue moon. He’s consistently committed. He’s versatile and he’s a player that you know will train well, be a good squad member and do what it takes and whatever he’s asked to do.

Our version of James Milner who despite being limited has won a decent amount of top level silverware and was wanted by both Pep and Klopp

Yes. The fact he's been asked to play multiple roles this season - sometimes in the same game - and still only rarely has a shocker is testament to his ability and attitude.

I think Blackpool will not only take up the 12 month option but they will offer Connolly a new contract in June. Connolly is only 25 and he has played more than 150 games in the Championship, if we let him go there will be other Championship clubs who will snap him up on a free transfer, pay him more money and give him a 3 year contract.

A definite new contract or extension.
Gives 100%, hard as nails, versatile and a better player than many think.
He's the tough midfield fighter we need alongside some more creative talent.
Plus he's a natural captain. A silent assassin - who cleverly nails loads of opponents.

Jack of all trades, master of none. If he is consistently in the starting eleven it is not a good sign for how things are going. However, he gives it his all and is a useful squad member to cover a lot of positions.

Under-rated player in my opinion. His withdrawal from his defensive midfield role to CH when Thorniley had to go off was a big factor in our defensive frailties resurfacing. Patino and Fiorini are inexperienced at this level and Patino in particular was guilty of ball watching for their first goal.

Like others have said good enough for the squad, especially if we are League 1, because he's a Jack of all Trades.
I'd prefer a couple of "Masters" though as first choice in all of the postions he could play.

Wouldn’t be my first choice and we really should find better, but you can’t fault his effort and versatility, especially when others around him appear to be made of tissue paper.
Also the type of character you want to see around the Club.

If we go down I think they'll take the option, if we somehow stay up he will be released, in fact there would be hardly anyone I'd exercise the option on if we stay up, needs a new manager and a new squad.

Whether we stay in the championship or go down I would 100% keep him.

He has a great attitude and fully a committed player who offers versatility.

If you are going to talk about him at least spell his name right.

I would not be confident we could sign anywhere near enough Championship experienced players if we don‘t exercise some of these 12 month options. Based on your recommendation I estimate we would have to recruit at least 12 new players and up to 6 new loan players if we stay up in the Championship. Be a helluva challenge for the new Manager to integrate all of these new players into an effective team in the Championship.

I do wonder whether the cost needed to survive if we stay up will be too big.

100% resign him, covers a number of positions and never give less than 100% even if he is not the most technical

Simon Sadler at the recent Structured Dialogue meeting confirmed that he will have to invest even more of his own funds if we are relegated back to Div 1. His estimate of his own funding was £2,5M in the Championship and £5M in Div 1 because income from TV money reduces considerably in Div 1. The amounts £2.5M or £5M are for day to day operations only, mainly for player’s wages and they don’t include capital expenditure and spending related to the new East Stand and the new Training Ground developments which will all require additional funding from Simon Sadler.

Of course we shouldn't be in this situation, we should have recruited players good enough for us to want to keep, we shouldn't be in a position where we are in danger of having barely any players left for next season and some of those not good enough to keep. I keep saying it, but the recruitment has been worse than any of us could have imagined and it's this that is going to cost us a place in the Championship, less revenue and more strain on Sadler, so he must be ** furious, you would hope. It's all very well and good talking about tens of millions for the training ground, the new East Stand etc., but at the end of the day it's about the football and we were fortunate enough to get into the Championship so quickly, but to give it up with a whimper because the football side has been run so badly is what affects the supporters most. They were promised "The Blackpool Way" and sadly the "Blackpool Way" isn't what we all thought it meant, we certainly didn't expect it to be the way of the past!!

I think he's one of our top earners from what I've read around 8k a week? Don't quote me. For that price I'd like to think we can get better. For me it depends on league. Yes in league one, no for championship. If we want to be a ball playing side and pass to feet keeping it on the deck he isn't quite good enough in my opinion. I'd rather have Stewart or another in the CDM role breaking up play, interceptions etc. Remember how good we were when KS was playing. Unforunately he's not good enough at CB/CM and wouldn't get in ahead of Gabriel/Lyons at RB.
