Coventry v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 29.10.22

Back to back wins. Also no substitute’s today, I was wondering if we should have put a couple on for fresh legs for the last 10 minutes, but TBH it could have backfired & I couldn’t decide who would come off.
was thinking that myself, there were some very tired players out there at 85 mins, but every players was still chasing down and doing a job.

some very silly bookings at the end.

Missed it all today, had to be elsewhere. Sounds like a great game so will have to watch the full game on TTV when it is put up. We are just starting to get to grips with what MA wants from his tactics and it is clearly much more exciting then Job Centre Quitchley. Great result and a chance to push on again in midweek. Jerry is on fire and great to see Gary on the score sheet, how did he get his head onto that cross??

There can be no complaints based on chances created, we more than deserved the 3pts. The 2nd half was much more even and at times we rode our luck. Madine deserved his reward for being in the right position and probably scored the most difficult of all the chances that fell to him. The winner was as much about our midfield working hard to force a mistake and the cross was perfect, a nightmare for any keeper and defence, as they stuttered, Jerry didn't. As is our way, the last 10mins + 4mins added on wasn't without some scares but most of which were from distance. A huge week, the players need to be looked after ahead of Tuesday as that is very much a winnable game.

To 900 or so who made the trip from Blackpool, well done, you could be heard throughout and especially at the end when you helped the players see the game out. Now for a glass of wine which will taste all the sweeter. 🍊🍊🍊

When Dougall got booked Chizzy said that he would now miss a game, having just returned from suspension for five bookings with the Hull game, he can only have played three games Hull, Preston, and Coventry. I thought the next suspension point was at 10 bookings which he must be well short. Does anyone know if Chizzy is correct? Thanks

Agreed. He gets into position a lot CC and normally you back him to score as he’s great in the air and has a cracking shot on him.

Main point as you say is that we create a load of chances and potentially have goals from several areas available to us.
I would say Connolly is currently playing better at full back than JG has. And going forward he's a really good crosser of the ball

A very pleasing performance, could very easily have been 3 up after 15 minutes , then they scored , I thought “oh bloody hell “ or words to that effect!
However, we continued to play very well ,still created chances & defended resolutely.
A very professional performance, Appleton is slowly getting his methods into the players & it is very good on the eye,.

Out of that starting line-up, Todd Kane hasn't played, Kyle McFadzean is ill, Jonathan Panzo ill, Jake Bidwell ill, Ben Sheaf has had a knock and wouldn't necessarily have started, Jamie Allen ill, and Kasey Palmer is ill."

Sounds like the feckin plague! hopefully haven't infected any of our players

don't know the answer but if Chis said it was saturday I would check my diary.

Dougall has 6 yellows to date he missed Sunderland

He didn't though really did he.
There was a number of occasions he bottled the tackle or didn't bust a gut to keep possession.
His cross was sublime but you can't say he was superb on the back of that.
CJ was immense again today, covered attack and defence extremely well. Can't get everything 100% right all the time. Noone can. Everyone made mistakes at some point, but the positives definitely outshine the negatives for everyone.

Just watched the extended highlights on TTV. Madine's work leading up to his goal was excellent. Then he quickly got into position and looped a great header over the goalie.

Good result that fair play

What’s with the poor turnout ? Less than a 1000 ?? We took more on a Weds night..

Come on they deserve better

Unfortunately ODT, we all have to actually pay for our season tickets which doesn't leave a lot left in the bank account. I don't expect a PNE fan to understand :)

Come on it’s a poor do , and you know it .

Think overall away numbers are down which is no surprise but on the back off your derby win that should be easily a 1000-1500

ODT, a quick glance at both our official websites tells me that the tickets for our trip cost £25, whereas for your trip they were priced at £20. Our coach travel cost £25, whereas yours cost £17. So for one adult it cost us 35% more to go than it did for you. Like it or not, that makes a big difference, especially if you're paying for a family and I don't think you can argue otherwise tbh.

Edit to add - I'm not saying we shouldn't be doing better, but you made a comparison with your following which is pointless unless you're being charged the same price, similar to home crowds.

I agree completely, just think on a Saturday you should be looking at higher numbers .

Midweek is always difficult, time off work etc and it’s usually on the red button .

Definitely think streaming etc is having an effect on top of cost .

Yeah for a Saturday we should be doing better but I think you're right streaming is having an impact especially with people cutting back on expenditure. And as I said, any comparison with PNE isn't valid really because it's just a fact that following Blackpool is significantly more expensive than following PNE this season, both home and away. We've already rejected reciprocal pricing with other clubs so it's just a costly exercise going to games, and fans are going to be more picky about which games to attend.

There was also the possibility at one stage, that the match might not actually take place, due to Coventry’s ongoing stadium ‘issues’. This might well have put some fans off purchasing tickets upfront?

6th in the current form tables with just 1 defeat. Given our fixtures that’s an excellent return. Though our goals against column could do with it being a bit lower but averaging over 2 goals scored a game

Physical injury as plague.
A line from one of the very best Dr Who's. But, which one?

You got walloped in the Derby.
Half your home attendance is freebies and deadlegs sneaking in on u11 season tickets.
Impending nuclear bomb about to explode once Hemmings hits the "No mas" button, then you're in freefall.

Keep banging on about attendances cha, if it makes you feel better, but you know it makes fuck all difference to anything and it'll not be long before you're on a 20 year long downward spiral!!!

Listening to Radio Lancashire on Saturday was hard work. All the missed early chances was not doing anything for my nerves and the FFS moment of going 1-0 down was daunting. Even worse just before halftime was the joy of the commentators of Gary Madine's equaliser, then errrrr, offside goal.
Surely we'll come back at them second half. Gary Madine's proper equaliser made me think my 3-1 prediction league win was going to be a certainty. The Match had gone from Pool attacking almost all the first half to about 50-50 since halftime. When Jerry Yates made it 2-1 with 10 minutes to go, it became Pool holding on for the 3 points. Thank goodness we hung on and won. My thoughts were that the win was deserved because we should've been leading by a couple of goals at halftime. We can have a hat-trick of wins at WBA tomorrow.

Yep its a fair point, although it was a poor amount, there were threats of the game being cancelled, but no idea if that affected anyone.

Pool fans are being hit more in the pocket too, higher prices at home and away where reciprocal pricing isn't there for us, it costs more to travel from Blackpool to anywhere and take a bit longer, all adds up. We've had earlier season apathy with the summer we had.

Blackpool is also one of the poorest areas in the country, add all the above up and at a time where money is toghter than ever and people have even less in their pockets.

Still expected more than that but there are reasons why.
