Coventry v Blackpool Official Matchnight Thread 08.02.21

New away ground for me this tomorrow, really looking forward to it. :) Any advice on parking for the designated driver and we may be setting of quite early so anything for a pre match pint for the others? Looking at the ground, not many pubs around. Cheers UTMP

We booked on just park and got a private driveway with insurance for £6 or summat for 6 n 1/2 hours
Five minute walk to the ground

Depends how critch sets up, if he’s going defensive, looking for a point or a breakaway goal, it might work, it might not, but I personally don’t like that approach. Pressure them in numbers, run yourselves into the ground would be my approach

Tough game this, they are a decent side and we seem to be improving after a wobble in December, I'd be very happy with a point.

My mate went to the Southampton Cup game and was impressed by Coventry. I won't be refusing to speak to them if we lose but hoping for the 3 points. Rest assured they will be having sleepless nights about Bowler and Hamilton. It would be just like NC to throw a googly by not playing either of them. I hope not!!

I'm not committing. I thought Coventry were very good at ours. Obviously we've improved a lot and it should be a cracking game but.....
I’d go with that. I thought they taught us a footballing lesson at Bloomfield Road and not many have done that. Their big number 9 had a cracking game.

Won’t be easy as ever, but they may find our wingers hard to contain on the counter

While they were very good at Bloomfield Rd, our team lineup that day was:

Maxwell
Connolly Keogh Husband Garbutt
Bowler James Ward Anderson
Yates Lavery

So no Madine, Ekpiteta, Dougall, Grimmy, Gabriel, Sterling or CJ. I dare say Coventry won't be the same either, but we've undoubtedly improved since then. We've got a right back now for one thing! We were basically missing the spine of the team in Ekpiteta, Dougall and Madine. They're the three that offer some strength and will win a battle for us.

Tough game but we're definitely capable of getting something.

Tough tuff match this - a point would be terrific

They are a zillion miles better than Bristol. city

Good luck to all

Coventry City is one of only two professional British football clubs to feature an elephant on its crest. Without googling, which is the other?

We only narrowly lost at home to that dubious goal, they did look a decent side though from memory, but as things seem to be clicking now for us & I'm hopeful we can get another win tonight. A point wouldn't be too shabby either.

Ditto alot of comments above, as they were very good at ours, big lads who played us off the park, but there is hope with the dynamic wingers we have, that are starting to hurt teams..I'd be happy with a win or a draw.

Coventry did look impressive at Bloomfield road but it still took an ‘arm of god‘ style goal to win the game. The squad has improved since then and it will be another measure of how far we have progressed this season. Which team will have recovered better after Saturdays exertions? Initially I thought we might get a draw out of this game but am now feeling more optimistic that we might scrape a win. No idea what team NC will select. Looking forward to this game, come on you pool!

There's a casino built into the ground. Nice bar and they're good at letting fans in pre match. At the opposite end to the ground, there are some car parks in light industrial units.

Hoping for a decent run to the play offs and we are on the right road right now. Coventry are going to be a rival in that pursuit. And they have played a few games less. A win for Pool will send out a big message to the rest hoping for the play offs.

2-1 us with Bowler on a role another goal for the dynamite Joshy.
1-1 wouldn't be too bad a return, but a win is important

They should have been out of sight against us at home in the first half. We set up with the players we had to try and nullify them, rather than get on the front foot ourselves.

I'm hoping we play the same team from Saturday - get Bowler and Hamilton with overlapping Gabriel and Stirling pushing their players back that like to get forward, and really take it to them. We've got the pace and ability to really hurt them this time around.

Edit to add, it's a sign of intent if we go for it - we're not looking down, so no pressure there - we need to be looking at that 6th place and playing with confidence.

Although I won't be disappointed if we don't make the playoffs. I was expecting a struggle in the bottom half this season, consolidation next, so we're a season ahead in my book 👍

I thought they ran rings around us in the first half at our place. They made us look slow and ponderous. Second half, once we'd grown into the game, I thought we matched them.
I'd take a point tonight.

Setting off shortly, take a point now and call it a night 😄
