I understand he has just passed away. Goal scorer extraordinaire in the late 60s and 70s around the
local leagues. RIP Dave

Sad news. I recall him playing for Fleetwood, where he was quite prolific. RIP.

Very sorry to hear that news.. RIP.
There wont be many, if any, who scored more goals than him in the local leagues.
I knew both him and his late brother Pete very well.

Didn't know him but I think most people who played football around that time knew of him and what a prolific goalscorer he was.
My memory may be wrong but I seem to recall regularly getting the Green back in the early seventies and I can't recall the local team he played for, Mechs, Wrens or SG but I think they did match reports of those teams and highlighted the goalscorer in bold letters and Wassell was a consistent.
RIP

RIP i knew him though he was before my time as a footballer.
My old fella played with him & said he was the most natural local goalscorer he had ever seen.
He played with him.
Probably could have been a pro if he had put his mind to it.

Really sad news. I saw him play when I used to go and watch my brother, who used to play for Heyhouses.

And Dave was really kind and considerate when my own younger brother passed away in 2017. They both lived at the same place in Lytham. RIP Dave.

RIP Wassy . As a young un he was a hero to me playing for Lytham in the Lancs Combination at Ballam Road in the early / middle sixties . Good lad was Dave .

I was so sorry to see that Dave had passed away. I was good mates with his brother Pete, who was a goalkeeper, and a good one.
I got a message once from the Civil Football Football manager asking if we had any players good enough. Obviously Dave wasn't eligible as he wasn't in the CS, but I mentioned Pete and our C/H Derek Woods. Both were looked at and played quite a few games for the CS.
Unfortunately Pete passed away a few years ago, a great guy, like Dave.
I always remember us playing against a side which had Dave playing in it, might have been a friendly. When Dave got the ball and was running forward I have a vivid memory of Pete screaming at his defence 'FFS don't let him shoot'. Dave had a terrific right foot.
Also knew their Dad quite well, he also worked PreBonds in the Non office staff
R.I.P. Dave.
2 good footballers up there looking down on us mere mortals.
