Deadline Day Thread

Andy Carroll set to sign for Reading. That's 3 massive earners for a club under an embargo, following the signings of Dann and Drinkwater.

They are under restrictions not an embargo. The were allowed to bring in a maximum of 3 players with a maximum wage of £8500 per week I believe.

Buzzing with sterling joining, sounds like he’s a powerhouse and comfortably ready for the championship. Was hoping it wasn’t off the cards when Nixon announced about Gabriel - who I’m glad is coming back, but would expect him to be second choice for this season
He doesn’t just sound like a powerhouse, he looks like one even when sat at a desk!

United get Ronaldo and Varane and Sancho - Liverpool get Henderson on an extended contract. Bet Scousers are creaming themselves.
He'll probably help keep Liverpool above United though. United short in the two holding positions. Fred/Matic. Could use a Hendo in there. 👍🤣

I much prefer the Moneyball approach rather than Reading's splurge.

Tuchel: Line 1 Done.
Hughton: Line 2 Gabriel on his way
Robinson :Line 3 How much will you pay for Brannagan?
Critchley: £600k with add ons and send me new white trainers for 3 years.
Sadler Mmm.
Critchley: I will pay for him and keep all the profit when we sell on.
Sadler £600k transferred
Boom

I wonder whether if Gabriel signs too, he and Sterling could end up right and left back, rather than one covering for the other? Not sure about whether either has had a go on the left flank before? Either way we're showing intent 👍

Voy, I know I'm biased where Hendo is concerned, but I genuinely think Liverpool are a far more dangerous side when he doesn't play. They are one of the few teams that don't really need a 'holding' midfielder. Other than that ability he's pretty average and often negative with no creativity whatsoever.

It wouldn't shock me. I think Gabriel has played some LB. We have other LBs of course but when we play a back 4 we might occasionally decide to get our two best fullbacks out there. Garbutt will still be a shoo-in for LWB though, probably.

You're definitely biased. Klopp picks him when it matters. He's not really there for creativity is he?

2 players signed for the RB / RWB slot and now we look a lot more balanced and well stocked at the back. Should take the pressure off of Garbutt too meaning we can build from both flanks and it adds a hell of a lot of pace to the squad too. Not to mention someone capable of taking a decent throw in !!

I’d expect to see us playing 3 CB’s (Husband or Gretarsson, Marvin and Sterling) with Garbutt and Gabriel playing at LWB and RWB. Or 2 CB’s when Stewart is back capable of sitting just in front of the defence.

Options, options, options. Great isn't it?

Certainly gives us more options and ability to adapt to other teams👍🏻

Two signings before lunch time, have the feeling we'll see one more through before the window closes...
Agree - I am really pleased with these and the intent shown by the Club in this area of the squad, but I will be surprised (pleasantly) if there are many more. I do expect to see a couple go out on loan.

Isn't Reece James a LB?

I think not actually.
More forward ? He’s certainly capable of playing LWB but I do agree he also has all the attributes to play elsewhere and I would like him to flourish further up the pitch. Shows the strength in depth we have though and shows Critch’s early claims about liking players who can play in multiple positions is very much what the club is all about.

Critch tried him there and took him out of the side for a while before introducing him in a much more attacking role, with much more success.

I disagree a real leader with a great passing range top player always been under rated by some but all England managers and Liverpool managers want him in or around the team.
