Derby County v Blackpool Official Matchnight Thread 08.08.23

All those messages and no one has mentioned Douglas Tharme! I’ve Ben. Dreaming all night about vodka and jaegers. The guy is immense and could become a legend.Who was that CH we had that had a song about vodka and Charlie’s? Special mention to Ollie Casey who was faultless all night. Worth every Penny if my £5 entrance fee!!

Gary MacKenzie, and if you think that's a good thing, I think you've exceeded your annual allowance of both.

Beesley is looking interested movement wise and has found his shooting boots. Fingers crossed he develops a partnership with Lavery if we don’t sign an Ellis type option until January. Unfortunate that Dale missed that chance with tons of time and only the keeper to beat. good to see minutes for Apter too.

Derby finished top ten last season and whilst both teams made changes, they had home advantage. We looked a class above. We have to be top three material at the very least.

An hour or so in the player who has really stood out … again … is Casey.

Playing the ‘Marv’ role in the centre, which is a bit different to where he was on Saturday. Involves a lot of responsibility on and off the ball and he handled it well.

Whipping boys Dale and Thompson also did well.

What is striking about your post is the timing of it. It's a cast iron certainty that you would not have made it prior to Beesley getting his two goals last night. Remind me when you last had anything to say about Beesley. Easy to post posts like yours after the event eh!
I don't really get your point. I was making a give the lad a chance post not an I told you so post. Although if you could be bothered to look I've always said that when Madine and Beesley were both fit Beesley was the better option.
I'm not saying he is the new Alan Shearer just preferring a more mobile striker with greater goalscoring potential than the last tall centre forward we had.

Interesting to hear about Casey, as there was a time I never thought we’d see him again. Good stuff and hope to see more from him.

As for the extended highlights- Carey looked to have some good moments. On another day Dale puts away that perfect assist from him. Dale is another one we need to support and if he starts to chip in with goals, who knows what we’re capable of.

my point was quite simple really. If Beesley hadn't scored two last night you would not have made your post. The fact he did meant you could jump in in to have a go at all those who rated/liked Madine whereas you prefer Beesley and that him scoring two goals last night made you feel you were/are right.

If he hadn't scored two my opinion wouldn't have carried as much weight so you are correct, I probably wouldn't have posted at that given moment on a thread where Beesley was singled out as being half of the weakest front two since the 80s.
Although if he hadn't scored 2 last night I would still be fully confident in the opinion I hold that last season,if fit Beesley would have offered more than Madine.
Not convinced that the 30 something Madine or Beesley should've been part of a championship squad last time out but that is a different discussion.

My thoughts exactly. An endless attack on fellow Seasiders with no end. It's getting tedious.
A. Trawls through posts
B. Settles on an opposing view.
C. Continues to drill home said view ad nauseam.
if it's getting tedious then don't read them. Pretty simple really.
And I'm not sure it's my view that is the opposite one here. After all, go and read gjr's post to which i replied where it's he who talks about other posters views. Just maybe, it's you who is looking to create an argument.

There is no argument for me. A fully fit Madine is always in the team ahead of a fully fit Beesley.

If it wasn’t for the Stains making his working life too difficult, GB might still be our manager... and we would be in a far better position for that. However, we can’t change the past and I wish him well. A really good bloke. I hope that he and Critchley talk BFC from time to time.
I'm pretty sure they must. And, I'm equally sure the 'thorny issue' of the Stains must be a near-endless topic of conversation for the pair of them, with Bowyer doubtless regaling his managerial colleague with some 'mindblowing' tales of his time working under the constraints of the dynamic duo. I bet Critch comes away from those exchanges counting his blessings that he managed to avoid the pleasure of working for 'ogling' Owen and 'toe-curling' Karl by a hair's breath, whilst recognising the irreperable harm it would've done to his career (life?) had things turned out oh-so differently... A clear reward from a previous life. Karma 'n all that, innit?

Knocked off a bit early today and watched it earlier. Derby are no mugs, and can string a pass together, ran out of ideas in and around the penalty area, might have been we are just well organised at the back. Some of our play was exceptional and the shot at the end of the 54 passes deserved to go in.
Thought Carey had a good game consistently finding space and driving forward, Casey was exceptional, Lyons was quietly effective. It was a solid team performance throughout, as subs came on they just slotted naturally into a role.
Roll on the draw for found 2 and exeter

Glad Beesley scored a couple it will do him good. He couldn’t miss his second though. We’ll have to see how he get’s on in the next few games & that will give us a better chance of assessing him. So far so good.

One of the many insights from Gary Bowyer on the commentary was that, while Beesley’s second couldn’t have been more of a gift, he does deserve credit for making what seemed like a hopeless run that put him in the position in the first place

From what I saw on the TTV replay the subs, Trybull, Apter, Tharme, Joseph did well. Great squad strength in depth.
