There has been a lot of talk about playing nice football but not creating enough chances.
tbf creating chances is one of the most difficult things.
Quite often they can come from defensive errors or a bit of luck rather than incisive attacking play.
The question is do we have the players who will take chances if presented?
I know stats can often be misleading but if you look at the ones from the game yesterday we had15 shots but only 2 on target. tbf a lot were blocked so some of this maybe attributed to good defending by Crewe?
Our Stats were far better than theirs pretty much across the board and they were in decent form and at home.
So that is encouraging imo
However if you look at the front 3 from yesterday none have what i would describe as good solid goal stats in their careers.
CJ is a 1 in 7 player out of nearly 175 appearances. Hes 25 so should be hitting his best years.
Madine is just under 1 in 4 out of nearly 400 appearances & at 30 the most experienced
Yates again is just under 1 in 4 out of just over 130 appearances. He is the youngest at 23 so potentially could kick on?
Hopefully one may have a breakout season, who knows?
But its not like they are like they are raw teenagers who you are giving time to develop their careers.
Or even someone like Nuttall who was young & had played a lot of reserve football but not much at senior level.
They have all played a decent amount of games in senior football.
Adapting to a whole new side and system takes time & hopefully we will get a settled solid side that clicks and defends well & scores goals.
Obviously its not all about the front 3,
Its important that others create & the midfielders can hopefully chip in with some.
Maybe even a few from set pieces & attacking defenders but you have to say that the main threat & peoples expectations are surely on the forwards?
Ive not checked the stats for midfielders but doubt any have posted lower league Lampard type figures?
Thoughts?
