Proven? He managed to get an expensive for the division squad up via the playoffs, managed to keep us up although the last few games of that season were awful, did fcuk all with Gerrard at Villa and won one in 11 at QPR 🤔 Certainly not proven in my opinion but then again that’s my opinion
QPR is a proper mess of a club. They lost Ainsworth after Critchley and are now bottom three. Gerrard failed at Villa with Critchley as one of the assistants.

Getting us promoted and keeping us very safe in The Championship are much bigger achievements than the relative failures at QPR and Villa.

I think that again the question is worth asking as to who you think could do better who we could feasibly get? And please don't roll out unachievable bollocks like Edwards or Evatt.

Dobbie. I enjoyed his style of play and saw the respect he had from the players 👍🏼

For what it's worth I'll point out that every team above us has a better record than us over the last five games. What that tells us is that we've lost ground on all those teams above us. In fact every team in the top 14 has a better record than us over the last 5 games apart from Shrewsbury whose record is the same as ours.
surprised [not really] that the likes of Wizaard and the luker haven't commented on this awful fact that on current form we only make 14th place. What a lousy set of fans we must have.

I’m just shocked so many people have gone for the play-offs. 😮
I’m even more shocked someone has said automatically it’s the 1st Dec not 1st April chaps. 😮😮

Aah the whimsical Ted Lasso/Roy of the Rovers choice.

I wouldn't back an inexperienced development coach that used to play for us on loan to get us out of this tough division. He might be the romantic choice but he doesn't have the pedigree.

Do you have a second choice?
Probably not someone who would have been such a cheap option who knows the club and players as well as he does

Unfortuately, it's a no from me, I can see us finishing outside the top six this season, massively inconsistent and that does not spell promotion, automatic or otherwise.
I'd 100% love to be proved wrong, but I just can't see it at the moment.

I agree. The turnaround required after last seasons sh1t show was a big one and we are nowhere near good enough to go up. To inconsistent, to pedestrian at times , fairly predictable and do not always have a plan B. I think deep down Sadler and Critch know it’s going to take at least two most likely three and possibly four windows to build the squad to get promoted from this league. Long term plan I think so when we are ready we will also be reasonably competitive in the Champ - look at Plymouth as a measure

Absolute tosh. "a fair few" ? Two started and two were on the bench. That's out of 18. Stop making things up.
Jeez, you are pedantic, aren't you!

I believe that a few is a small number, often defined as three. You just mentioned four players, to which we could add the likes of Virtue and Gabriel, making in my book "a fair few".

don't bullshit! You didn't say a few you said a fair few which certainly indicates more than it actually was.

Six players is a "fair few".

Why do you argue about this sort of minor stuff? Is it to deflect my attention from the bigger discussion that we are having?

Critchley knows the club and players well and has recently got the club and a fair few of these players promoted out of this division.
4 seasons ago by your “fair few” reckoning isn’t recently. In the mean time several clubs we now play against have worked out how to play us and go on to beat us

just pointing out your inaccuracies. If we went up this season and i hope we do, then it will be down to the manager and players. If we come mid table then that will be down to the players and manager too. Ultimately nothing to do with the fans. And for me mid table is unacceptable and not making the play offs is failure. It has nothing to do with entitlement. It's about wanting the best for your team and having belief in what we are and should be capable of.

I agree that we need to improve but I would back Critchley over Dobbie to get us promoted and will continue to support his efforts.

Neither of us seem able to suggest an alternative.

I voted play-offs sadly, and thats obviously down to you know who!
I believe as we saw last Saturday we have the best team and, should!,,,be pissing this league, but we've been over the reason that's not happening so many times on here.

The squad is good enough to.
The manager could do with being more proactive with his in-game management, too often he reacts to the other team or too late.
All that said I think we’re improving Tuesday night was a poor effort all round, and Bolton was disappointing but the matches in between we looked different 🤷‍♂️.
I think we’ll make the playoffs then who knows.

Strange as it may seem, I think there's more chance of automatic than making the playoffs on the basis that if we get the consistency and in game right enough to make them, then it will be enough to go all the way.

Critchley has botched the first period of this season, simple as that. He's had us playing ponderous football far too often and his playing and sub selections have often been bizarre to say the least. We've got the players but they havent been used the right way. Marv being cast in the role of go to receiver of the ball from the keeper is a major example. Why would you persist with that tactic when, great defender that he undoubtedly is, he is evidently our least comfortable player with the ball at his feet. We might scrape the playoffs but I'm far from confident about this.

The atmosphere would be massively improved if the team was set up to attack each game. This manager unfortunately doesn’t do that and instead relies on a boring style of attrition to wear teams down and hopefully win games. I didn’t like his style of play last time he was here and certainly wasn’t disappointed when he left although I didn’t like the way he left leaving the club in the lurch and massively unprepared.
My first post on his return stated how underwhelmed I was by his reappointment and there’s not much I’ve seen since his return to sway my opinion unfortunately.
It's your view. I don't agree.

After last season's attacking shambles, I like to see a structure in the way we play.

In the last 3 games we've scored 9 and conceded 2. Really boring.

I don't give a toss about form in December. Let's see where we end up at the end of April.

I'm sure you'll be saying I told you so of we don't get top 6. I'm also ready to dish it out 😉

I'm ready to take it. But as it stands this squad should be doing better.

I think this weekend is another interesting benchmark - four of the top 5 play each other and the rest are away from home.
I think automatic has gone but we're still a good bet for the play offs.

There is certainly the talent in the squad to go up automatically, none of the top teams have impressed to the extent that i think they are better than us. In my mind and from what i have seen Bolton were probably the best side so far.
We are playing in fits and starts, a half or thirty minutes where we can absolutely muller a team and other times sit back and let very mediocre teams dictate the play, and we get very passive defensively.

if critchley can resolve the consistency issues, and i do think we are getting there, Northampton was an aberration, one of those games where nothing went right even though we didnt play badly we were just a bit passive and northampton came with their best game and a good plan to expose a weakness we do have, which is playing against a high aggressive press, we should be good for the play-offs which i think has to be a minimal expectation, but auto isnt off the table. we need a run of 8 or ten games where we pick up 18 to 20 points or so. Then its game on.

We are 6 pts off 3rd, 9 pts off 2nd. Compared to the last time under Critch, we have an extra 3 points at the same stage. In that season we were then 10 pts off 2nd, 8 pts off our eventual 3rd place finish. So far I still think we will have a similar overall season to last time with Critch, albeit with a slightly better start and slightly weaker top 6. Still automatic for me, but only just.

We now have a run of games against teams towards the bottom end of the table starting with Carlisle in a relegation spot. If we can put a winning run together we could in the new year be knocking on the automatic door 🤞
