Dom Thompson

Arrogance Com?

You've seen something I missed for certain. What makes you think that?

Dom basically got worse as the season went on, started very promisingly, even if he does have the strangest thrown in I've ever seen. I think his confidence went to hell, he made several bad errors.

But his reaction to the one against Norwich was anything but arrogant. He was upset and apologising to the ground.

I think he would benefit from having an experienced CB with him. I like DT but In the Championship I often thought of the phrase "loose cannon " when watching him. I was willing him to have a few good games positionally and without errors, but due to injuries and an inconsistent back line/team formations, it didn't happen.

i think a season in L1 will do his development a lot of good.

In my view, how much we missed the experience of Keogh can't be over stated.

Great left back. That's why losing Reece James is no big deal.
He's not great yet, but he'll deffo become very decent.

Just silly things like the misplaced pass inside. He should be told when he gets the ball tight on the touchline that it goes forward down the line. Whoever plays up in that area should know that is where the ball is going and look for it accordingly.

Re throw ins, his Dad and sister were good standard javelin throwers. Explains a lot.

In a 4-3-3, Husband would be fine from a defensive aspect but I am sure Critchley would want a modern day footballer that can attack as well. I know I would.

Let's get there first before writing people off.
Who's writing him off? I just said the jury will still be out WHEN we get promoted. Which is definitely true as he didn't prove himself good enough for the Championship last season. If he cuts out those wild and too-frequent errors then it would be a big improvement and would raise his level massively as he has obvious strengths he can play to.

Same age as Casey and Carey. All still developing.

Marv was making far more errors last season than the previous season. We woz a mess innit.

That's true. The only difference - as alluded to in my original comments - was that we've seen Marv perform well and consistently at Championship level. We can't say that of Dom at this stage, but it doesn't mean he can't and nor does it mean Marv will when we've returned.

If he can.learn to be less rash during games , I can see him having a great season in league 1 - good player in there

I think there's a good player in there somewhere.
Working with Critch on his distribution and cutting out silly mistakes, he could become a real "diamond".
He's young, speedy and energetic.
I'm interested to see how he is in 6 months.

Let's hope he's not looking in the same place that CJ's looking😵‍💫

I thought he started pretty impressively, then once Appleton got coaching him he fell off a cliff. I think there’s a decent left back in him and I’ve faith in Critch. Having typed that, I fully expect him to make a shock transfer back down south before the season starts.

Him and a few others: Lavery / CJ / Carey all could have a good season

And never mind apologising 'to the ground', it was the actual fans he should have been saying "sorry" to...

He should be offloaded. So left footed he trips himself up going round in circles, makes game changing errors in every game and his discipline is poor.

Hubby should LB without a doubt.
Hubby is woeful. No pace, extremely poor distribution, not good in the air but he’s a good lad 🙃

Just because he’s shite at going forward, people seem to think he’s good defensively. He’s not. Cost us goal after goal last season.

He was comfortably one of our worst performers across the whole season in the championship after such a promising start. His performance at Sheffield United away was one of the worst I’ve seen from a player in a Blackpool shirt.

But there definitely is potential and a good season in a strong league one team could give him the confidence and development he needs.

I absolutely hated Thompson last season. He looked a liability every time he was on the pitch… BUT there’s a good reason he was at Brentford and had played Premier League football. He’s athletic and physical and on paper has all the attributes needed to be an incredible footballer - in League 1 and the Championship. I fully expect Critchley to get the best out of him and he may well be one of our better players come the end of this season - especially with the likely emphasis we’ll place on full backs getting forward and with us needing players who can play multiple positions - which DT should be able to do on the left.

He was the proverbial loose cannon last season and was a total liability in defensive areas.

But last night he got forward well down the left-hand side and put in several good crosses into the box, both hard and low into or just outside the six-yard box or hung-up to the back post.

We were stood near the right corner of the away stand (in the upper tier😜) so had a decent view!

Although it was only a friendly against a non-league team, he showed promise for the season ahead.

Allied to the fact that Mr Critchley is having all teams at all levels of the club set up to play in a 3-5-2 formation this coming season, it could be an exciting time for us all...🙏

But if I was a reformed Judas, I'd err on the more conservative side and play the lot safer 1-3-5-2 formation with Grimmy at numero uno!👍🤪

Thommo will either listen and learn or he won't.

If he does, he's got the attributes to be an effective and popular player.

If he doesn't, he'll be Demi Mitchell 2.0
Agree td. As mentioned he was a massive liability last season & other than some i.e. Marv who's confidence was shot, Thompson struck me as having an iffy attitude. Hope I'm wrong, time will tell.

Hubby lacks pace ?

He’s probably the quickest player in the team

He’s faster than CJ or he was a couple of seasons ago
