East Stand

This time last year BM said we’d see plans in early 2023. Obviously plenty has happened between then and now so it’s understandable that target came and went but does anyone on here know how the negotiations to buy up Henry street are progressing? Or any more on the rumours SS has bought the club/casino/arcade? I find it a little odd the architect firm was confirmed a while back but absolutely nothing since

There was an article a last month I think, that said several of the properties had already been bought and they are negotiating for the rest. I suppose not much more can be done till the properties are bought in terms of applications.

Mr Mansford said lots of things. He had a mouth that was quick to open.

Public realm. 👍

"The new stand will complete the modernisation of the stadium and is also expected to include public realm to enhance views of the ground, and improve dispersal of fans on match days."

Yeah so we've had the update on the council buying of the houses, however it was said plans would be in early this year, so they were obviously at an advanced stage.

The fact houses aren't yet all bought up meant little for the plans, which we'd all like to see.

There has been upheaval, but still, I thought we would have seen a vision of what is planned by now.

AFAIK, The closest we've had is the picture on here... for the area with the pitches, which may or may not give a clue about the stand and lack of corner.

Next step is the submission of the detailed planning application from the club to the council. This was initially expected to happen spring 2023 and last I read was summer 2023. Council are completing purchase of properties, one by one. I doubt the club have to wait for them all to be bought before sending in detailed plans. Again it would be nice to have an update...

Does that new East Stand include a North East Corner or is it just going to be a long flat stand which doesn't fit with the rest of the stadium?

I don't dislike the temporary stand. I know it has to go eventually but it does what it needs to do and the fact that it is different to the other stands gives he whole stadium a more interesting feel. My hope for the new stand whenever it gets built is that it's different and adds some architectural flair. Not that arsed about capacity.

I agree with that, but I'd also love to see the outside become more interesting. We've enough history that warrants some sort of acknowledgement.

I was hoping that the new stand was going to be bigger so we don’t end up with equal height boring bowl like so many other modern grounds.

There's a load of stuff you could do that would give the stadium a real wow factor, even in it's current configuration. New external cladding - referencing on the club's heritage if you like, utilising and refreshing the rear back wall of the stands, a proper 'Blackpool Football Club' sign for example. Not to be ungrateful for the maintenance work that is now done on a regular basis - just saying the potential is there to make it a fantastic looking ground. I think the East stand does provide the opportunity to give it a 'focal point' in terms of design. The architects are apparently the people who did Brentford's new ground so that is encouraging.

Conversely, you could argue that a smaller new stand could also relieve the 'boredom' providing it's an interesting design. 2 smaller tiers for example would provide a contrast.

You could and I sincerely hope that a two tier stand does get built but doubt it from SS statement a while back. I still have hope that BFC could become great again in the future so I therefore think we should be aiming to up the capacity but I fear the little Blackpool mentality that has infiltrated the fan base and possibly the owner will dictate a fairly modest development.

I don't think the mentality of the fan base come into it. Although the size might. The owner will do what's right for him and sustainable for the club. At least we've got someone running the show who is not thinking in terms of private gain. Unless I've badly misread the situation.

I would like to see 2/3 more statues of ex players prominently displayed outside representing more of our famous history World Cup winner Alan Ball, Scottish International Tony Green & Wales International & one club man Glynn James. Perhaps asking to much but would emphasise who we are etc.

The whole ground really could do with BFC branding, still resembles a sterile block of offices. Didn't the artist Purdonkey offer with murals, that the club obviously hasn't taken up in favour of keeping the dull charcoal grey.

Is there any scope to build the new east the same as the rest but make the west two tier? This would help eliminate sun strike to those in the east
just a thought

We don't know yet until the full app goes in.
We don't but those initial plans seem to indicate a building where the corner would be.

Obviously full plans haven't been released but it would be odd to show those plans with something there.

A NE corner has NEVER been mentioned at any meeting AFAIK and surely you'd say the East and corner if that's what it was. We do have the mentioned 4600 new east capacity, which the gazette mention. If that is just an East stand then it should be a bit bigger than the other side, as that side is apparently 3684 plus 738 in hospitality, but some of that 738 is the areas above both corners, so the amount above the west likely makes the total nearer 4100.

So whoknows, could be a slightly bigger East or maybe some smaller corner is included. The former is probably more likely but we just don't know.

It's for away fans anyway, as long as there's a piss trough, warm beer and barely in date pringles the stand will be fine

Some great ideas outside of building the East to make the current 3 perm stands better.

However that said, all those ideas including statues would cost a couple of million £. Would you prefer that on players or making the current set up look better (excluding the East)?

If you ask that question every time then nothing would ever get done to move the club forward. It shouldn't be a choice.

It’s always a choice though unless we are owned by an oil sheik.

We sadly can’t have both a war chest to buy million £ players and millions £ to spend on the ground.

If I can sell my company for a couple of £billion though I’ll step in 👍😁

It's about creating an identity- something that the people of the Fylde can hold on to almost like a Church, if you will. Sevilla outside the main entrance have the badge of all the teams they've played in tile form on the walls. It's looks amazing.

Done right it could be spot on.

Personally and money not a problem, lol, I'd like the East to be the main stand housing the Club offices, changing rooms etc and the West to be converted into a more commercial attraction, like a proper sports bar with maybe bowling and that sort of stuff. I also wonder whether the National Football Museum in Manchester has run it's course there?

The West because of where it is and with passing traffic is 100% a commercial goer.

Sadler has said that there is 30 million earmarked or set aside for the East and training ground and that won't impact on the playing budget. That's fine although everything seems to have gone very quiet on that score. But equally so we have to have the ambition to get out of this division and back to the Championship and that requires investment into the playing side both in terms of fees paid for players and then agreeing contracts with those players to actually come here. I still sense that the latter is a problem. If they are two separate issues between off field and on field then that seems fine but I can't help feeling one has an impact on the other. And yes, most of us have read Sadlers statement and been told how much money he has invested.

I’d agree there 20s. There’s probably more chance of getting the east done from Div 1 where the wage drain is less. Though if we were Championship we might have had more chance of selling a player for £10m plus?

It’s a conundrum for sure.

It just needs to get done and get us back up to at least the championship and hopefully the odd flirt with the prem and quick, I ain’t getting any younger here…
