England v Germany Match thread

Why would you bring Henderson on? What is there to learn from that one? He's just looking to protect the point.

Good 15 minutes at the end. Can't rely on turnarounds like that though. Might be Southgate is just a lucky manager. Lets hope so.

Pluses - Bellingham, Saka, Mount (surprised me that one)
Negatives speak for themselves. Three goals conceded from mistakes evan if the second was a good hit.
All in all better than it might have been.

Just a shame Plug didn't make best use of his extra dingle digits at the end as it was some decent fight shown to make that comeback at a point in time where it could have fizzled out as a glorified friendly dead rubber and the atmosphere really turn.

Match threads on this site have become almost unreadable with the amount of knee jerk reactionary bollocks spouted. An example is the amount of criticism Pickford usually gets, never made a mistake for England, unlike his stand in tonight.

Southgate isn't getting sacked, get over it, no one gives much of a toss what happens outside the real tournaments, these are glorified friendlies.

Just need to ditch the back 3 and go 433 or a 4231

Ramsdale

James
Stones
Dier
Shaw

Bellingham
Rice
Foden

Saka
Kane
Grealish
Aint it funny that the good managers in this world want to play midfield 3s? Pep and Klopp both play 3 in mid often. Or a 2 and a 10. Yet every Blackpool manager and England manager isn't interested.

I know the new kits have only just gone on sale. Away game at Italy, They wear home. Home v Germany. They wear away. Crazy !.

Germany looked like they were wearing lab coats over theirs.

All a load of nonsense at 50-100 quid a pop but people buy them so the marketing obviously works.

Certainly an improvement tonight. Maguire looks on his way out . Foden again achieved little . Pope`s mistake also cost us and his distribution was poor over two games. It`s time we finally got rid of Sterling.

Saka, Bellingham and Mount with that great strike did well. Shaw scored and put in the pass of the match and Stones did well till his injury .Bring in Pickford and Grealish too and between that lot you might just make up a decent team.

My thoughts, I've never been a fan of Pope aka Plug in nets, he was awful again tonight and him and Slabhead combined to cost us the game, neither should be anywhere near an England shirt again, the fact Southgate picked them tonight says it all.

Southgate's negativity is plain for all to see, his tactics cost us the Euro final after having a great start he just gave Italy the whole of their half to launch attacks and the inevitable equaliser happened, all the top sides play a high press game which in effect starves the opposition of possession, when will he learn to do the same because these players are doing it week in, week out for their PL clubs.

There was plenty to be pleased of the way we responded to going 2-0 down, the worry is we won't react and attack sides until we go 2-0 down, because that's when they seem to go on the offensive more, we need to do it from the off and not sit back and wait.

Finally good defenders do not allow opponents to line up and fire off shots without being closed down, Havertz's strike was superb, but he wouldn't have had the time to do that had we run out and blocked him as Germany did all night long most notably on Bellingham when he was trying to shoot.

I said when Southgate was appointed he's a genuinely nice bloke but lacks a pair of bollocks for the main job, nothing I've seen in these six years since he was appointed to make me think any different.

It's not just AVFTT. Watching videos from the San Siro there were thousands booing him and calling for him to go in Italy.

Great fightback. Shame they couldn’t hang on to the lead. Pickford will have gained In status as England’s keeper tonight I think.

I don't he know why Pope got the nod over Ramsdale his kicking and distribution are awful he was with Burnley too long where the modern sweeper keeper wasn't needed.

I understand Southgate's desire to maintain a consistent squad with experienced players, but he must be able to see that Maguire is woefully short of match fitness and absolutely shot in terms of confidence. That's not someone you can realistically expect to step in and step up in international football.

The lad's become the whipping boy at United and the public jump on the bandwagon to an extent, but you could see last night that he needs a good run at club level to rebuild before he can be given a place. Hard decisions, when you feel the guys never let you down - and he generally hasn't let England down - but needs must.

Spot on, Southgate hasn't done Slabhead any favours playing him last night, he's not even starting for his club side so he has no match fitness and sharpness so his confidence will be very low and Southgate has hung him out to dry last night, a combination of him and Plug in nets who seems to get a brain freeze every time he receives a back pass have combined to cost us the game.

Poor from Southgate and he should know better.

He probably felt it was the only way to get him game time, as it won't be happening at United any time soon. But it just doesn't work that way and he should know that.

We looked miles better when we made the changes at 0-2, they rolled up their sleeves & got in their faces, rather than boring square passing. Change of personnel in Maguire & Pope, play on the front foot, close down the opposition & put your bodies on the line, we have the players it seems. So come on Southgate let them play or sod off.

It amazes me how much attention some pay regarding the bloody kit. Maybe it`s just me but I regard the game itself as first ,second and third out of a hundred in importance and the kit about ninety ninth, no make that one hundredth.

On the plus side, now that he's let England down in a dead-rubber game, Southgate must know that he needs other options.
