England V San Marino

As it's effectively game over I'm going to switch to the Italy v NI game to see how Ballard gets on

Should be at least 7 up by now, some awful shooting.
Calvert Lewin should have a hat trick and Stirling is a greedy little shit

I agree. I'm not impressed by England. Sterling could have had 7 and Calvert-Lewin 5. Mason Mount looks quality though.

normal service resumed Jocks losing.

we're playing pretty well as we should do against these but we've really not put away as many of the chances that we should have.

Keeper made some excellent saves to keep the score down but yes should have had 2-3 more at least.
Sweaties 1-1 now. 😮

England are overplaying it only 5 against these. We’ve got about 10 minutes to get 5 more.

Interesting how people are saying how it would be embarrassing if we didn’t get 10 goals.
Trouble is it is a total no win situation for England.
I notice that no-one has mentioned on this thread what a good game their goalie has had.
Deserves MOM .

San Marino really should not be allowed in to the World Cup qualifiers, the population is 30,000, FFS Lytham St Annes is bigger and their last and only win was in 2004 in a friendly against Liechtenstein 1-0, their team is around the standard of Wrens or Mechanics.
Bull, I know what you mean but, albeit they are the lowest ranked side the the FIFA rankings, they are there on merit so deserve the opportunity to play against the top teams in Europe.

It is like saying that some of the very poor none league teams shouldn’t be allowed entry into the FA Cup.

Can't win situation score 5 and it ain't enough if we'd wanted 10 forget the pass and move and just hoof it in the box then everyone would be saying WTF was that.

We've got some unbelievable talent now in the England setup, players who are there and coming though.

Its crazy to think back some years where we had talent but not like this, now these players have been brought up with the right basics, keeping the ball, technical players.

Its looking like a really bright future.

Agree but we need a manager with similar talent.

Hes done a decent job overall, some of the football were playing is sublime compared to past teams, easy on the eye, let's see what happens next tournament.

England woes in tournaments were usually down to pressure, so many managers have failed but was it all their fault.

I think mentally its been changing for a while now, winning a penalty shoot out for eg.

We've been playing a certain way with newer technical players for a while now so next tournament its all in place, if players perform and managers inspire then whoknows, football could be coming home 😃

Southgate has done a decent job and is getting us playing a decent style. Thank God Fat Sam was as greedy as we all thought he was and was forced to quit.

Yeah but you never know, we may have ground our way with long balls and set pieces to a glorious tournament win......

All I saw tonight was a bunch of overpaid kids showboating rather than doing their job!

We may as well have been playing around cones tonight and a decent non-league side could have scored 5+ goals. Despite the piss poor opposition, I want to see organisation, desire and commitment from our players, not for them to look at it as a chance to showcase their tricks.

It was heart warming, however, to see that fame hasn't changed Sterling, he's still a greedy player that doesn't belong in a team game unless the team are playing for him! 😏

I think 5-0 is pretty embarrassing . San Marino are amateur footballers and England are made up of players from the best league in the world. Pathetic

It was absolutely dire, some of the chances missed wouldn't look amiss on Common Edge on a Sunday morning.

Mings, Lingard, Sterling, Calvin-Lewin, and Philips? The other Euro nations must look at them and think WTF.

Two players looked class and that's Mason Mount and Phil Foden and 17 year old Jude Bellingham showed glimpses of how good he can be.

No wonder some fans get pissed off and don't bother to watch their country, I'm as patriotic as any man I know and it tests my patience at times.

As usual the England negativity lot strike again on this thread just don't see the difference if it was 5 or 10-0 (last team to do that was Croatia in 2016!) and put the big guns like Kane out it probably would have been that but what would have been the point.
Three games to play in seven days and at least 4/5 who won't start on Wednesday against Poland and high number of injuries didn't see an issue with the team selection and liked the formation.

We expect way too much from our national side and if someone mentions what a player is earning again give me strength.

Pool, I definitely don't consider myself negative in any way shape or form, but I've just given an honest view on the tripe served up last night, and don't even start me on Boothroyd's U21 lot.

Leave the country now if you don't like it 😉

I've always been a fan of 3-5-2, I was playing it 20 odd years ago for my pub side, it allows you to utilise the excellent wing backs we have at our disposal (Saka, James, Trippier, Chillwell) and then use an holding midfielder (Rice or Henderson when he's fit) which free's up a couple of attacking midfielders ahead of them and we have an array of talent in this area (Grealish, Mount, Madison, Foden) perm any two from four. Kane up top with either Sterling, Rashford, Sancho or Calvert-Lewin and we have a seriously good attacking line up. A big plus for us is the return to form of John Stones, he's finally got his head screwed on and looks the part for Man City in an area where we are weak which is the same as GK, none of the current bunch impress me at all. It is a talented group and exciting to watch, but we will never win a major tournament whilst we are weak at GK and CB, it just won't happen.
I honestly believe Blackpool should have played this formation from October especially with the wing backs at our disposal. We havent really got the available personnel at the moment with all the injuries but Marv Ballard and The Viking /Thorniley at the back would have worked well with Gabriel and Garbuttas wing backs...dont think I have ever mentioned this before (only about a hundred times)

There are some miserable gits on here. Have some of you lot never kicked a football. All players miss chances and last night was no exception. I was expecting at least 7 which we should have done except for second half changes.

England are probably a top 5 World class team with the squad we have.

They packed the defence and Goalie produced some fantastic saves. They are not the worst team in the World neither.

I think gone are the days of beating someone 9 or 10 nil.
Some expected wins just didn’t happen last 2 nights Holland getting beat, France and Spain held to home draws even Slovakia couldn’t beat Cyprus, and even Austria were held. 😮😂
For me our performance was solid and basically it was a second string outfit (maybe even a third string) with a few new faces making their first appearances so job done for me we move on to Sunday/Wednesday we’re tougher teams await us, 9 points in the bag and the goals scored are suddenly less important.
