Exeter City v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 12.08.23

Beesley will be okay against the poorer teams but it really shows up against the better teams, too ponderous. Carey too. Ekpiteta is dog shit on the ball.

Not too worried.

Not really a.Critch fan. Don't get me wrong, he's okay, just not the kind of manager who excites me.

But one gift he definitely does have is his ability to react to games. He is able to make changes to stymie opponents and turn games around. He often surprised us with equalizers or even winners, first time around.

For that, I've always considered him a 'Second Half Coach'.

It's not foolproof, of course, and he has cocked it up many times, but that's my reading of him - Tactically reactive and astute.

Beesley not doing enough for me he’s been very poor. Not seen much of ball but when he has he’s not been strong enough or made the right decisions.

Ekpieteta needs a timer on him.

Decent game so far. Both teams look decent. Hopefully we can pinch it.

Marv should NOT be allowed to bring the ball out, he cannot do it, Norburn saved his arse then.
But he's a footballer and central defenders start attacks, we can't keep saying don't let him pass it out.

Other teams close everyone down so he has it, it's inevitable when you have a weak link.

CJ so frustrating. He just hits and hopes from the right. Beats his man all the time, if he could cross from that side he'd be deadly.
I thought today at least the passes were good but nobody attacking the near post.

Lavery works his socks off and Beesley still had so much to learn. Oh for a partnership up top like Madine and Yates, makes you appreciate what we had

Just looked at the stats and we have had barely a third of possession, shows how much I’ve been gripped by that half of non-stop excitement 😂😂

Outstanding block from norburn that.... Teams know marv is dicey with the ball, they sometimes don't press knowing that he can't pick out a pass, but then sometimes do when he has a poor first touch...
It wasn't just a misplaced pass, it was suicidal play and a pathetic attempt to pass the ball back.

Absolutely mental play.

Midfield looks devoid of ideas in an attacking sense. Carey and Morgan need to offer more but the obvious thing is to switch Hamilton and Lyons and let them pass or cross on their stronger foot.

I wonder if Marv might find himself on the bench when Pennington's fit, if he doesn't buck up.
Always thought this would be a tough game after their decent result last week, maybe a bit of a reality check. Not an awful lot on the bench to drastically change things.

Except his astuteness and tactical reactivity don’t come into effect until after the 70th minute.

Yet apparently "We want to be the dominant team"... People getting excited over how well we played the other day and the midfield we have, but suddenly as soon as a team can pass a little were looking poor...

We've only played in halves this season so far, let's hope that was our bad one and not the good one...

I'd have taken 0-0 at half time. It's their first home game, it was obvious they would start with fire in their bellies. It is a case of managing the first 15 and then show some quality and hope a chance falls for Lavery.

Solid first half as Exeter don’t look bad. Just not quite got fully going yet. Marv had been fine until his balls up. He needs to keep it simple & it very nearly cost us. COYMP

Some fair points; but so far this season we’ve had an undoubtedly better first half against Burton and both halves we did what we needed to do, and more at Derby.

Many many fans say the same about their teams. That they save their better performances for the second half.

OK that was bad but the stats say Exeter haven't had a shot on target despite having all the possession.

I think some of you are expecting too much, we are 0-0 at half time, they are pressing us hard and quickly and we are away from home against a team who have won their first 2 games as well.

Not sure why the Beesley bashers are out, he's doing okay, neither of our front 2 have had much service and we have some tasty players to come into the team soon.

They will get knackered about 60/70 minutes and if we can keep it tight until then I think we will win, although I'd take a point if it was the worst we could get.

45 minutes, COYP!!!
