FAO the SLO re Corner Flag Bar

Please take this as an observation. The Corner Flag bar and food outlet needs serious attention,, There are only two bar staff serving drinks, there were queues for the bar from 12:45pm all the way to 2:45pm, average time queuing was over 20 minutes, The till needs pre programming with "Drinks" buttons rather than tapping each drink price in, they ran out of glasses as people were ordering two drinks instead of one because of the waiting time, The staff with due respect didn't look up to the job, seemed like they were part timers, possible training issue. A separate food queue with its own till away from the bar needs creating to free up the bar staff. Believe it or not they were serving cream teas and afternoon teas on Saturday. At least 15 empty tables with reserved markers on them at 1:30pm, only by 2pm had most of them had been taken up not necessarily but those who had booked them, the rest were still empty but all the chairs had been used by other punters moving them to sit with their mates. It's all well and good reserving tables but it would be wise to say to those reserving them must be seated by 1:15pm if by then they do not arrive those tables have their reserved markers removed and become available for all customers. Finally the club should think of introducing a bottle bar, say for interest £3:50 a bottle or 3 bottles for £10, this would also reduce the main bar queue. Match days should a source of income for the club but at the moment its not happening as people wont put up with the queuing and its poor customer service. Perhaps it would be an idea to get one of the directors to visit on tuesday evening to see how badly its run and what needs improving to make a more fluid operation which would bring more money in for the club. I welcome other views should you agree or disagree with my observations.

To be fair they probably didn't envisage the demand

Cut them some slack ffs we are just out of lockdown they are finding their feet as are most places
Cut them some slack is right but to say not to envisage the demand isn't good on their part. They should know full well the big increase in st sales to be able to anticipate the demand. Same with the club shop and shirts too.

Have they no contact with the rest of the club as to the crowd size?
If we can estimate the attendance surely someone at the club knows the exact number of tickets sold.
The OP seems to have a good grasp of how hospitality should work by the structure of his post.
I would suggest the OP should email Steve or the club with a copy of his post.

The Corner Flag has always been crap even before lockdowns. It’s a good op and needs to be said. I criticised the place a couple of years ago and got a few pelters. It appears the place hasn’t improved.

Noted Holyjoe (and others) and will feed back as a matter of course. Just FYI email is preferred because it provides an easer way to share info with appropriate parties and a more manageable audit trail for managing issues than trawling through past AVFTT posts. 😉

Unfortunately I think it’s fair to say the place ran much more smoothly when it was ‘Rowley’s’ and it’s probably the one thing the Stains were getting right at one point as it was busy, good quality and well staffed with good management in the form of Paul and Lindsay

We went in the corner flag at 2pm and were served in 5 minutes.

Staff recruitment in the hospitality sector is currently an absolute nightmare. Just not enough people interested to fill all the jobs.

Thanks Steve, not asking anyone to work harder, its about becoming more efficient, and looking for ways to move forward for the benefit of all especially the Club

Before the game the Corner Flag was awful

There was one woman dishing out the food and just 2 staff serving at the bar

I also don't understand why there was one queue, with people queueing all the way out of the door and past the lifts

It was a shambles and a massive revenue loss, as people where seeing the queue and just leaving

After the match it was fine as hardly anyone went back after the pre match fiasco

Correct it’s partly due to Brexit & the pandemic. People have moved on or back to where they came from, it’s a countrywide problem & many hospitality based venues are really struggling, with some doing limited opening or shortened menus etc.

Beat me to it Sooty hospitality is really struggling for staff. The problem may be that pre pandemic most staff were on zero hour contracts and then suddenly found themselves out of work and out of money, they will have moved on and found other jobs with more security. IMO

The lady serving food was working her butt off and keeping cheerful too. I hope she gets some thanks from her employers. She said some staff had not turned up in the hospitality suite so CF staff had been moved there leaving her and 2 bar staff, one was on their first shift.

Not sure what the solution is 're hospitality sector .

Real problem with recruitment due to the lockdown .

People have moved on.

👍🏻hard to find people for a few hours work on poor pay. Maybe get a few in on the Govt scheme if possible, hoping they dont get abused and some kept on if decent.

Offer decent pay and you will get people to work. The profits will cover the extra 2 or 3 quid an hour over minimum wage.

Echo what others have said about staffing.

Funnily enough spoke to my bro who is a manager at mariott Hotel in Manchester, he was saying they couldn't fill there hotel as not the staff.. needs chefs and house keepers, he confirmed both brexit and lockdown have affected this.

I presume the club was also in the same position with bottle bars not open, no brainer to have them open so can only see lack of staff being the issue. We certainly would have had a beer so club certainly lost 3 pints from us.

But as we were in NW corner up by that stupid wall it's good job we never as nothing worstsheff seat 3 than having to get the whole row to stand up to go to loo... and then all stand up when u come back. (Certainly won't be picking them seat numbers again)

Blame Brexit and a Pandemic
Hospitality wages will soon have to rise and are already and thus so will the food and drink prices.
