Favourite Stephen King film

Probably The Shining followed by Green Mile.

The recent IT films are up there.

Mindful Things and Salem’s Lot are also brilliant.

Shawshank of course. Green Mile and the Shining. Considering the brilliant books he has written too many of the movies and TV series have been sub standard and usually the ones he was involved in.

I am reading the revised edition of The Stand at the moment, it's just a great book, about three quarters the way through but they have never made a decent version of that for the small or big screen.

Weirdly just toying with the idea of watching Apt Pupil as I saw this, but it’s got some very mixed reviews

If you haven't seen The Mist, its definately worth a watch.
It's one of those you will watch which exceeds your expectations
And the use of Dead Can Dance's Host of Seraphim is one of the most haunting tracks ever!
Amazing film

Shawshank apart, most of the films are a poor substitute for the books. The Director's interpretation of a story rarely gives you as much pleasure as your own, in my experience.

I think he should consider retirement, actually. His recent output is OK, but not at the same level as the stuff he did earlier on.

Shawshank and the Mist, both by Darabont, also did The Green Mile and the first season of Walking Dead, some resume that.

Doctor Sleep was surprisingly bloody excellent.

Agree - The Darktower series of books is epic, huge landscapes and ideas, that could never translate to a film. I can’t think of a single film of his that equals the book, barring Shawshank.
I’m not sure he knows what else to do with himself if he stops, much like aging rockers that go on past their sell by date
I would say he’s an important 20th century writer though, as some people are a bit snobby about him.

I came fairly late to Stephen King from a book perspective, in part because of my age, (I appreciate this thread is about films) but my word, what a writer.

11.22.63 still stands up as one of the best works of fiction I've read purely because of his superbly readable writing style.

There's no one like King.

The Whining. Some Remoaners go on a booze cruise down the Rhine and one by one they get their necks broken by an evil spirit known as Herr Schnapps.

I've got the really really long unabridged book of The Stand. It's possibly one of my favourite books. I've also watched both versions of it on TV. I thought there were some really good parts in both but it's a book that's virtually impossible to film. And I wasn't happy with the ending of the latest series.

Doctor Sleep was great. It did well as it tread the line well between Kubrick’s The Shinning (which King HATED) and both King’s books, meshing both styles enough that fans of the film could get on board and King himself was a big fan

Shinning? Was that about Roy Keane’s tackle on Haaland’s dad?🤣

I'm reading it at the moment Mark, first time so its been a great read for me, it is such a great story and the building of characters is incredible. I thin Robbie is right though, they are hard to replicate in movie or TV format because the stories are so intricate and we all see things differently. I' not sure I agree about the retiring though, I have enjoyed some of his recent works, The Institute was great. I also enjoyed NOS4A2 as well which is written by his son Joe Hill, creepy as fuck!

The most terrifying film that I've seen to date was Salem's Lot written by Stephen King. I downloaded it at Halloween this year as my 19 yr old daughter wanted to watch a really scary film. I couldn't summon up the courage to watch it again. Man that ** film has scarred me !
