Fleetwood Town v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 05.12.20

Await an explanation for Ballard's absence. The team looks weaker without him and Robson. Fingers crossed Critchley has got it right.

I haven't been overly impressed with Ward so that's the change that worries me slightly (feel like he gives Dougall too much to do when played as a pair), but we do need to rotate this month with having nine games. Ballard took a knock on Tues as well. UTMP

Ballard must be injured but Ward played well at Peterborough and Harrogate. I'm going for a draw.

I agree, but to be fair, Ward was really top class in the cup game.

Expecting a bit of Madine mayhem from the 20 beer and kebab striker. I think he will score today as someone has pointed out elsewhere that the the Fleetwood CB is 'not a great defender'.
It looks like Critchley thinks he knows our best 442 team and it is as above (maybe Ballard instead of the Viking). Maybe it is, but personally I'm not too keen on Husband who always has a mistake in him and gets sent off far too often. In a derby game he could be a liability. Virtue will be handing a transfer request in at this rate, he is nowhere near getting a game atm.
He only recently signed a new contract, he's no where near getting a game because he isn't fully fit yet.

I think Husband will play well today, players often lift their games against their former clubs.

The Cods team looks very strong. I'm worried about our midfield being too lightweight. We should be able to utilise our pace though.

Would be good to see Virtue in a Critchley team, perhaps he will get a run out on Tuesday.
Personally I don't think he would make this team atm, there are several in contention for that position Ward, Robson and Anderson all have a claim as well as Virtue. Can't see CJ or Kai Kai getting dropped and Dougall must be the first name on the team sheet.
Mitchell looks slightly wanting defensively, but he must be close to getting a game vs Husband who has already let us down several times this season.

Bit surprised by the team today, I must say. Particularly with Ballard left out, and I thought Garbutt would start.

But in Critchley I trust.

Midfield looks a bit fragile with Ward in place of Robson. Also, Gabriel and Garbutt don't look like they'll get many league games as they seem to be behind Turton and Husband.

He sees the players in training and he is under pressure with the fixture list and the quality of the squad, so needs to mix it up, 3 changes not too many. He got it spot on last Tuesday so let's trust him.

No sign of Ballard and was knocked about in midweek, so can't be fit, would certainly have played in this one. He's opted for a settled defence otherwise, makes some sense. I thought Robson would play today. Critch must want Ward's forward movement and high touch contribution, but we might miss Robson. Very strong bench.

Just hope Husband can take the pressure without getting sent off...they know he has a short fuse and will try to wind him up and exploit that...this is a big chance for him to show he can see out this kind of game without getting booked or sent off.

Could do with Tuesday's ref or at least someone as competent for this one.

Has anyone any idea who today's ref is?

Virtue is still coming back from injury, nowhere near ready for football yet.

Barton said they targeted Husband last year to no good effect. Fingers crossed he repeats that performance.

Re Robson and Ward, they're both good players and both improving with each game. Pleased to see the Goal Machine back. I don't think he'll be taking any prisoners today 👍
