Formula One 2022 thread

All starts once again tomorrow with qualifying for Bahrain. The disgraceful end of Abu Dhabi last season only feels like yesterday.

Testing and FP1 both has Ferrari and Red Bull way ahead of the Mercedes but we know results from testing are to be taken with a pinch of salt. That said, Mercedes do look well off the pace.

I still think they'll be in contention come the end of the year but will have a tricky few races.

Personally I can't wait to see the two young Brits Lando Norris (McLaren) and George Russell (new to Mercedes) get on this season. Good to see Magnussen back as well. I'd love for Lewis to go clear with an 8th World Championship but it isn't looking hopeful if testing is anything to go by so probably a second title for Max.

All a bit unknown yet but it looks initially like Mercedes aren’t on the pace, but at least a few teams look close and competitive.
It’ll take a bit for F1 to get the love back, must admit I’ve not followed as closely preseason and not feeling it so far after the farce of the last race.

I loved F1; I've been to Silverstone a couple of times. It's the pinnacle of motor sport and the F1 World Champion is in the same category as say the Heavyweight Champion of the World and 100m Olympic Champion - they transcend their discipline.

The decision making in the last race to promote 'entertainment' over sporting integrity, put it on a par with WWE and was created for Netflix and has meant me really not bothering so far this pre-season.

It will take a fair while to lose the taint for me - if ever. I hope I do fall back in love with the sport, bit I'm not sure. It's a shame but there you go.

If F1 is shite don't open the thread just to tell us. Personally I think horse racing is shite, but I didn't go on the thread to tell everyone.

It will be interesting to watch how Hamilton/Russell get on together, personally I hope Russell slaps him and think he will

Been to Silverstone once but it was massively eclipsed by Le Man's, where about 20000 Brits descend and really let their hair down.
Motorised loos and baths going round the site. Beer bottle walls and pirate ships driving down main road outside the stadium - absolutely bonkers

I enjoy the F1 , I couldn’t care less about last season’s shenanigans, F1will learn from it and move on , and so should we . Oh and this new presenter Naomi Schiff is a darling !

Last season was brilliant. One for the ages. The result might not have been popular with a few thousand Hamilton fans with their bottom lips dragging along the floor but for the rest of the millions of fans globally it was a ripper.

That second paragraph sums me up exactly as normally I'd be all over the preseason goings on so this year I've come to it much later.

I'll never get over Abu Dhabi but I am excited for this season.

FP3 and Red Bull and the Ferraris still leading the way with Russell leading Hamilton. I'd take a Merc on the second row.

Bahrain one of those tracks where starting 2nd gives you the better line.

Well said. Its happened and lessons have been learnt.
However, its Natalie Pinkham for me.....

I've found this GP to be really dull. Was looking forward to it but it hasn't lived up to the hype.

Edit. It take that back! Fook me!!

What a race!! We're in for a treat this season based on that.

Mercedes the lucky beneficiary of Red Bull reliability issues. Way off the pace but I'm sure they'll be around race pace in a few weeks.

Best news from that, though, is the great ability to follow cars closely and overtake. That battle between Max and Leclerc was superb. The new cars being able to overtake more causes a new problem though which is greater tyre degradation as we saw with Max

No luck involved. Mercedes car lasted the distance Red Bull didn’t

Today's grid.

Should be another cracker. Can't say I'm a fan of this circuit. Far too dangerous as we saw yesterday with Schumacher but should at least make for an eventful race.

I can see Ferrari being on the top step again.

Should be a good one, expect a charge from Verstappen at the start and a silly move, quite like Perez but he's going to get team orders to help the 'world champion' out and I'll be rooting for Leclerc, he's a class act.

I'll go Leclerc, Verstappen, Sainz as top three.

Great race whatever they have done to the cars this year it's certainly very exciting.
In the past you'd get overtaken and you wouldn't see them for dust now they come back.

Great result for Horner and the lads. Shame Checo's race got messed up.

Great to see scuderia Ferrari back where they belong too. Leclerc is probably the second most talented driver in the field behind Max.

It's going to be tight between the two main teams this year. Think Red Bull will edge Ferrari out mind.

So Leclerc and Verstappen are more talented than Hamilton, Alonso or Vettel?

😅

Yeah, agree with that, although Russell needs to be in there.
Yeah maybe but his best F1 finish is 4th so far where as Charles has 3 wins (I think) + multiple podiums, he's got a bit to prove yet.

If the Mercedes team can find half a second, we're gonna have a 3 horse race on our hands. Which can only be good for F1, can't wait for Australia in 2 weeks.
