Fourth Test - India v England

Finally Joe Root gets some runs, looking at the comments even before a ball was bowled this Test could be over within three days one way or the other.

That’s Englands problem Bull.

In a game where finally Root and Bairstow (shock horror) do manage to score some runs others around them fail miserably this time Duckett Pope and Stokes.

From 112/5 to 176/5 is a decent recovery.

Let’s see where we are at the end of the day though before we get too carried away.

Difficult to know what a good score is on this wicket. The Stokes delivery was a joke on any day of a test, but for that to happen on Day 1, somebody needs investigating. Given India control cricket, I doubt anything will be done about it. We've just got to hope we can post a good score, I'd say anything over 250 would be OK.

I would say anything over 350 would be a really good score on this pitch batting first, need to see how India bat to really see whether our score is decent or not.

Oh I agree but when you see a grubber like Stokes got, 350 would be a minor miracle. 250+ and we are in the game. We need Root and the tail to drag us up as close to 300 as possible.

How are you feeling now? I'd deal at 270. 😂
Pitch is a minefield isn't it? I actually think we've done pretty well to get to this score. Commentators are saying between 250-300 is par but I guess we have to wait and see what India do first.

Still think we can get up to at round 300’if Root takes plenty of the balls
We have to stay positive, it doesn't matter who you are, there's a ball with your name on it, on this track. A late flurry of runs could be priceless, batting last on this is going to be a huge challenge if we can put ourselves in a good position after the 1st innings.

Doing ok - Root to get 100, England to get 300+ will be competitive. Just need our bowlers to be on it and limit their first innings because as people have said, this wicket is going to be poor for anyone chasing the game last innings.

Great to see Root get back to playing a well-thought out innings and not getting out to silly shots. Mature innings and reigned in the 'Bazball' to give England a platform in this game.

Edit to add, India now looking frustrated, a good time to get another 30-40 runs

Just to add thes
mockers but this is an excellent partnership and as said the Indians will be getting really frustrated. Think the last two wickets will go quickly so every run is absolutely vital

Well that is England's day, absolutely no doubt. 300+ on this wicked puts us in a very decent position. With them likely to take the new ball in morning, there is the chance of a few runs if India get things wrong. If we are greedy and can manage to put another 30 or so on the board, we'll have our tails up.

Well played Root, up there with Duckett's knock for different reasons. 👏🏼

A fine battling recovery and also a clear reminder that 'Bazball' works for players with limitations but is not needed for class acts like Joe Root. Good to see him back and scoring runs after looking all over the place in the last few games.

As has been said, we'll find out how good that score is in due course, but those partnerships with Foakes and now Robinson have given us something to bowl at. Very surprised India didn't take the new ball based on everything that was being said though. Will be interesting to see how quickly they mop things up tomorrow when (you'd presume) they do take it.

Well played England . . . . I'm not going to say we're in the driving seat just yet :) but certainly a great last two sessions.

Joe Root is the best batsman in the world for a reason . . . wherever he is . . whatever the situation . . he will always come good and score important runs.

I've no idea why they didn't take the new ball?

Another 50 would be great . . . hoping to wake up tomorrow with India 120-5 still trailing by over 200 :)

Let's hope @themightysimmonite has talksport2 available for the drive to the Gold Coast 👍

An excellent century by Root and a pretty decent day from England.

Would be even better if we could get another 75/100 runs tomorrow and then have a decent day in the field instead of always chasing the game.

Still a long way to go so anyones game yet but yes we’ve had a positive start and it’s nice to see.

Excellent, sensible knock from Root and not before time. Good support from Foakes and Robinson on a tricky wicket for batting.
At 302-7 Eng in the game.

I agree. At last Root is playing to his strengths, picking up runs from bad balls instead of pursuing runs where they aren't .
Great knock by him tbh.

Excellent recovery today. I hope we now keep going in the same vein and don't jsut come out swinging for ten overs. There is no way this or the next test will be a draw. Our job is to keep them in the field and accumulate, then capitalise against tired minds and legs.
