Amen to that Mac.Happy to keep Southgate as long as he has some big electrodes on his head to try and bring out some personality.
He is Mr Beige. Mr Marks & Sparks. Mr Sunday lunch with the in-laws. Mr Wash the car and mow the lawn. Mr never go to bed after 10pm.
He just will not win anything.
We've invested massively in the England youth structure and have been hugely successful winning tournaments and bringing young English players through the ranks. We have world class youngsters. And then they step up to the pinnacle of that structure and are lead by utter mediocrity. Bland, stale old school manager surrounded by old pals that are also failed managers to coach, and then picks his favourites and does everything with maximum caution.
It's hugely frustrating but nothing will change. He's like a wet dream for the snoozy old bores at the FA.
...or HendersonIf England were 2 nil down like France yesterday would Southgate make two changes in the 41st minute?
Would he bollocks he’d leave it until the 80th minute and get Mason Mount on.
Maybe Southgate's side would have started playing before 80 minutes. If England were 2 nil down like France yesterday would Southgate make two changes in the 41st minute?
Would he bollocks he’d leave it until the 80th minute and get Mason Mount on.
An Englishman thinking his squad is better than anyone elses! No surprise there, we have a habit of always over rating how good we are! An Englishman who thinks we have a divine right to be the best, we are the best and we should win every competition we enter because we are the best and no-one else is as good as us. It's no bloody wonder why the rest of the world think we are arrogant. We had one of the strongest squads if not the strongest and yet again he fails to bring a trophy home but it’s deemed as doing a good job? Ridiculous.
Look at Brazil, Germany, Holland, Italy (who can’t even qualify) and let’s be honest France and Argentina neither looked sensational and they are not as good as they once were but will get better whilst we are peaking with a manager not up to the job.
Let’s be honest most posters on this board could have got us out of that group stage with our squad and of course the mighty Senegal. Yes I know they are the African champions but come on we are light years ahead of them except for our manager!!
Venables was one up front, with Shearer who hadn't scored in two years approaching 1996. Got lucky with some skilful players but it wasn't particularly good to watch, and he picked Gareth Southgate.I'm not going off record particularly. I'm going off style of football (Venables and Hoddle were better). I was a big defender of Southgate but let's be honest, his style of play in the last WC and Euros was poor, had the easiest run of any England manager to get to the latter stages of tournaments so I don't think it's a ridiculous statement to put those ahead of him. What he does well is squad harmony and get the press on board, that should be a given for any England manager but it does show how bad previous appointments were.
