Gig Prices

I like a more intimate gig venue and as my music can be eclectic, I rarely pay more than £30 a ticket as the artists I like are usually a little niche or just generally not well known!

However, I do push the boat out for a few of the "big hitters'..for example Green Day and Foo Fighters are c£80/90 this summer (first saw Green Day in 1994 and it probably cost about £2.50!)....I'm taking my lad who's inherited his dad's great taste in music!

However, Pearl Jam are playing at the new AO Arena in Manchester...prices are £160 FFS!

Is it me being tight or is this just what's expected from these types of gigs..? I'd imagine Beyonce, Swift etc are as madly priced.

Saying all that I still prefer the smaller venues as I think you lose a lot of the experience of live music in stadiums etc.as you're potentially miles away from the artist.

£30 FFS that’s expensive 😂

£150 for 2 tickets for Alice Cooper at the Hammersmith Odeon. Silly booking fees but Glen Matlock is a support act so quite happy

Just booked to see one of my favourite bands in Holmfirth, Liverpool and Carlisle in May, al tickets between £25.30 & £26.70

I was on the 18th Feb pre-reg with Ticketmaster for the Pearl Jam sale today and I believe it's a sell out for the 2 Manchester gigs
I picked up 2 and to be honest, I expected it to be £160 - £200

I was quite amazed that Donald Fagin was going to be the support for The Eagles.....😳...last time I saw them, I don't think they had any support
That man could fill arena's on his own just doing Night Fly
I just hope he makes it to the UK, he's not looking that healthy but the online videos' of him singing last month have him sounding fantastic.

Just waiting to win the National Lottery to afford AC/DC tickets.......£400+ for pitch standing....🤔

I don't care who the fuck it is I wouldn't pay £150 to see Jimi Hendrix. Probably why I didn't see that many big bands in the 70s for the same reason. Much prefer the smaller intimate venues with lesser known bands who are as good if not better than many mainstream ones. Not seen anyone recently so got a ticket for Gun @ the Waterloo next Wednesday & looking forward to it.

I remember going to see The Who in 1981 at Manchester Apollo, I was in the centre about 6 rows from the front. The ticket cost £ 5, which is

£ 18.50 today. A similar ticket in the centre section near the front at the Eagles concert are going for over £ 400 on Ticketmaster.

Back in the 80's bands toured to sell records, and made most of their money from the merchandise they sold at gigs, and the programme

they used to sell. Unfortunately, bands make very little due to streaming and digital downloads. for recordings now

Unfortunately, I wanted to see Steely Dan but I cannot really justify spending that money especially as Fagan is 76 years old and well past

his best now, although his band and backing singers will be excellent.

They can sell them for what people will pay, depends how much you like them, I'd pay that for the original Pixies line up for example, it is just extortion mind.

The Roses at The Empress was £6.00, just checked my stub.

I’m with you on this, Sooty. The Waterloo has some cracking gigs at bargain bucket prices. You folks who’ve not been should try it. (Beers ok too.)
I’m using the Holmfirth Picturedrome currently. Bigger venue, so some bigger bands. At the ELO Experience on Friday and Rock Rising at the Lawrence Batley on Thursday. Both superb. 4-1 on Saturday. Lucky me.
Seriously guys and gals, support these smaller venues. Great value.

We paid about £50 each for OMD including booking fees for Friday in Manchester.
£45 each for Gary Numan in May and £40 each for Idles in December. It's about standard for these sort of gigs.
£45' each for the annual Waterloo Anarchy Easter gigs. 3 days. 18 bands. Great value as is North West Calling with 9 bands for £35 each.
Cheaper than GnR and Bruce Springsteen .last year at Hyde park. Both cost a ** fortune.

I completely agree with the sentiment, but I saw all the big-hitters, Floyd, Zeppelin, the Who, Yes, Genesis etc in the 70s, and it was cheap as chips!

Totally agree - go a few times myself. £10-15 for 3 or 4 bands and 5-6 hours of entertainment is cracking value and it's local and needs supporting!

My first gig was Oasis at Maine Rd in 96 and that was 17.50. Oasis at Knebworth a few months later was 22.50 and my first weekend festival at V97 a massive 50. I've no idea how teenagers working class families can afford it today. I took my 12yr old lad to his first concert a few weeks ago, Coldplay in Bangkok and our standing tickets were 150 quid each.

That should save him a few quid over the years as you've put him off gigs for life😁

If only. It was a quality show and we had a great time. I was a bit worried before hand that being at the front would mean lots of crowd surges and getting squashed but nothing of the sort happened. Though TBF I think that's the Thai way as it was all very civilised when I saw the Killers here as well. Nobody on shoulders, no tit flashing, no bottles or plastic cups of piss being chucked around. He's got a shock coming if he ever goes to a gig in the UK.

You pay more for arena/stadium tickets and yet it’s a completely worse experience - most the time watching on a screen a million miles from the stage

Somewhere like Manchester Albert Hall you can be at the back and still 10x closer than you would be at the Manchester arena
