Poor for the winner. No point saving weakly struck penalties if you’re going to be caught out at your near post.
Time for Maxi to come back?

Not for me. Grimmy’s been a hero since he took over. When someone blasts it from less than 10yds, any(?) goalie is liable to be beaten once. Dembele was not exactly steaming in along the deadball line.Poor for the winner. No point saving weakly struck penalties if you’re going to be caught out at your near post.

Any keeper beaten at his near post shouldn’t be happy about it.I noticed Grimshaw came out late for the second half and then on a couple of occasions went to the touch line for some kind of Liquid…but not water by the look of it….I just wondered and said to my friend next to me if he might have had some kind of stomach bug.
Anyway you would expect the forward to score in the position he found himself in and he did unfortunately.
Grimshaw can’t be blamed for either goal.
Like everyone else I was absolutely gutted at the end but my rage was directed at the incompetent officials, who seemed intent on finding a way to give them maximum advantage, not at any of the players who gave everything.
Been outstandingThat mistake for the 2nd goal is the only error I can recall from Grimshaw. Poor OP plus Maxwell is injured. Grimshaw has good potential and has performed well.
At far end to me but wondered how it went in.Their player misfit his shot which caught him out, it wasn’t poor keeping, it was a fluke, which summed up our afternoon,
Really good job you will never have any involvement in decision making with anything to do with the clubPoor for the winner. No point saving weakly struck penalties if you’re going to be caught out at your near post.

To answer my own question, I don’t think he should be dropped even if Maxi was fit. But when a keepers beaten at the near post there has to be some blame attached.Really harsh to blame Grimshaw tbh. Hes just stabbed it home from close range. Absolutely no blame should be attached to him for that.
Nonsensical post. Grimshaw has been brilliant…Poor for the winner. No point saving weakly struck penalties if you’re going to be caught out at your near post.

Have to agree with that statement.Any keeper beaten at his near post shouldn’t be happy about it.
He's probably still kicking himself, but what was the rest of the team doing to allow that to happen?Have to agree with that statement.
Eagle I rate Grimmy. As a member of the Goalkeepers Union, being beaten at the near post is a big no no for us. Thats not distracting how good this lad is and the form he's been in.He's probably still kicking himself, but what was the rest of the team doing to allow that to happen?
No need to sprinkle the pitch at half timeAnother slip by Sterling was the problem, he ought to get some longer studs!
I'd say the same for pretty much everyone on this forum.Really good job you will never have any involvement in decision making with anything to do with the club
…agreed….and that of course includes me.I'd say the same for pretty much everyone on this forum.
Yep, I was thinking the same too.Another slip by Sterling was the problem, he ought to get some longer studs!
TouchéI'd say the same for pretty much everyone on this forum.
As a consistent scorer I rarely leave myself a double 7 or 11. Double 1 however...Isn't this the OP the guy who consistently fails to check out with a double 7 or double 11 at BASIL darts nights?
Its ok calling people out for their weaknesses in sport, but folk need to put their own house in order first.
Mind you on this thread he's gone for the bull and notched up a reasonable score.

Dude you are crazy man. He calls it as it is Phil style.Mods... surely this poster deserves blocking... we don't need any more WUMs on this forum.
You've picked the right word, potential. The man's still young and wil learn. The coaching staff will go over that one with him so that he knows what to do in future. I don't mind the criticism - it's deserved - but he shouldn't be dropped because of one mistake in an otherwise good performance. That mistake for the 2nd goal is the only error I can recall from Grimshaw. I'd suggest straighters has been posting on here for many years more than you. If you don't get or understand his style it's probably you who deserves blocking for your ignorance. Straiters is up there as one of the best posters on here with a whole different variety of posts and not all a wind up. So just relax and enjoy his style.Mods... surely this poster deserves blocking... we don't need any more WUMs on this forum.
“It’s a myth. Something I have never understood. One day someone just came up with it and said a goalkeeper should never be beaten at their near post.
Anyone who has played in goal knows it’s a huge area and you try to cover the whole goal. You can’t try and cover the whole goal and the guarantee the ball won’t go in at the near post if it’s a great shot. Near post, far post, you try to cover it all and you’re not happy if it goes in anywhere.”
that's fair enough and probably true but it wasn't a great shot, it pretty much crawled in at the near post. For me, Grimshaw would have been better to try and force Dembele to go across goal where he could even drag it wide. Similar one in the first half where Bowler was forced to go across goal and their keeper made a good save pushing it around the post. From Kasper Schmeichel:
No, it wasn't a great shot at all. And he will be disappointed with it I'm sure.that's fair enough and probably true but it wasn't a great shot, it pretty much crawled in at the near post. All that said, Grimshaw is playing really well and we shouldn't be overly critical or making out of a molehill about it.
