Not had huge amounts to do but outstanding so far - makes you wonder where we’d have been if Appleton or McCarthy had put faith in him.
I was one of many posters who could never understand why Maxwell played ahead of Grimmy last season, whether it cost us our Championship status is open to debate. Not had huge amounts to do but outstanding so far - makes you wonder where we’d have been if Appleton or McCarthy had put faith in him.
It contributed.I was one of many posters who could never understand why Maxwell played ahead of Grimmy last season, whether it cost us our Championship status is open to debate.
When you think back we wouldn't have been criticising Max if he'd not made numerous clangers which sadly he did.I was one of many posters who could never understand why Maxwell played ahead of Grimmy last season, whether it cost us our Championship status is open to debate.
The opposition basically had 60% possession in every game, that's going to make all defenders including the keeper look s***.I think there was a period last season when he was making quite a lot of basic mistakes, but it may have been due as much to the general Appleton tactical chaos, putting additional pressure on the defenders and the keeper(s). I personally don't think there was much in the raw ability of both keepers, Maxwell in my opinion had slightly better distribution, but every player suffered under the Appleton methods.
It was certainly a big factorI was one of many posters who could never understand why Maxwell played ahead of Grimmy last season, whether it cost us our Championship status is open to debate.
Not so much 'an absolute joke', as an 'outright scandal'...There will be offers in January for him. It’s an absolute joke that Maxwell was picked ahead of him.
The fact that most teams last season were able to walk past our midfield at will had a lot to do with our goals against column. A Norburn, or a fit Trybull earlier on, would have made a big difference. Not so much 'an absolute joke', as an 'outright scandal'...
There is nothing to be debated we would have stayed upI was one of many posters who could never understand why Maxwell played ahead of Grimmy last season, whether it cost us our Championship status is open to debate.
6 if you include last season 3 in 5 at the end of last season.5 clean sheets on the trot in the league for him. Must breed confidence.
It's only a yawn if all your eggs were in the wrong basket last season trying to defend the indefensible.Yawn not this again.
Double YawnIt's only a yawn if all your eggs were in the wrong basket last season trying to defend the indefensible.
The stats were so stark and the blunders so obvious from Flappy Boy.
No, its 5 for Grimshaw. 4 this season and 1 last season. O'Donnell was in goal at Derby.6 if you include last season 3 in 5 at the end of last season.
It was wrong from a management perspective to persist with him as his confidence looked shot which was probably the biggest factor in his and the form of the defense in the end. There was no question that Maxwell had completely lost it last season and Grimmy had to come in.
I’ve made no secret of my opinion on our Kepler situation and I e seen nothing to change my mind. We certainly need better if we have any designs in becoming a Championship Team.
I think the whole side from back to front was disorganised under Appleton and that McCarthy’s tactics just placed the defence under additional and sustained pressure that none of them were physically up to dealing with.It was wrong from a management perspective to persist with him as his confidence looked shot which was probably the biggest factor in his and the form of the defense in the end.
Disagree. When you think back we wouldn't have been criticising Max if he'd not made numerous clangers which sadly he did.
Didn't Grimshaw make a couple of howlers early on; particularly one at Millwall? The way Maxwell was vilified by some (and still is) is horrendous and unnecessaryDisagree.
Many were on Maxwell’s back simply because they preferred Grimshaw.
I'm not sure that I'd class this as a howler:Didn't Grimshaw make a couple of howlers early on; particularly one at Millwall? The way Maxwell was vilified by some (and still is) is horrendous and unnecessary
It's just the other, equally important sides to our game we need to be addressing ...Clubs will be looking at our whole defence, as no team has managed a goal against us yet. Long may that side of our game continue.
Regarding Maxwell, in terms of the vilification he was subject of, I think the term I'd choose to go with would be: 'was more than fully justified'. Just to add balance and clarity ...Didn't Grimshaw make a couple of howlers early on; particularly one at Millwall? The way Maxwell was vilified by some (and still is) is horrendous and unnecessary
