What a lovely little town

Working up this way and decided to give Harrogate a try

Not been for a good few years and i must admit its a rather jolly day/night out

Granted the High Street is a bit like most other towns with several retailers closing, however it's stacked with pubs, bars and restaurants

Loads of choice and I even had a couple in a little Real Ale House

The Den sports bar was quality as was the Timothy Taylor pub and a couple of other independent bars, always nice to see that instead of the chains

Bit Yorkshire when you are talking to the locals but not as bad as most places around Leeds

Can't wait until we are in the same league as these and I may even take the Wife next time as it has a bit of Chester about it

Anyway..night night hic .....

A bit Yorkshire when you are talking to the locals🤣🤣🤣🤣

Commenting about a town in North Yorkshire 😁👍🏻

It’s a lovely part of the country, especially if you venture into the Dales.

Agree with Mansfield that Knaresborough is also lovely, and Fountains Abbey nearby worth a visit.

Attended St John Fisher R.C school there and agree it’s a lovely place but not been back for years!

yeah, not a place i know well as if we are stopping over that way we just drive through it on the way to York which is also a great place.

Was there at weekend Phil, superb 'Spoonies' at the Winter Gardens and some excellent eateries. Lovely architecture and open spaces. Top stuff

I spent 2 years living there as an Army apprentice ( 16 yr old starter). Beautiful little place. Friendly locals, only trouble we had was older Leeds guys coming over at weekends ‘squaddie bashing’. We did what we could. Toughened us up, I suppose.

Always been a classy place. Same for most old Victorian Spa towns that haven’t been overly redeveloped.

It’s a bit of a gateway to other top places, as mentioned above: Knaresborough, York, Howarth, Malham, Fountains Abbey & Bolton Abbey, Brimham Rocks, Ripley, etc.

Was going to Betty's last Saturday. Arrived at about 9.15 and there was a queue of at least 40-50 outside.

Went to a nice Caffè Nero in the town instead.

There's an interesting place down the road, Ripley Castle. Really small place, if you weren't looking for it, you'd drive past without knowing you have.

There's an excellent pub/hotel though, and round the back of that the castle does a very good tour. It saw a sad moment after the battle of Marston Moor, fought down the road in 1644 and, without spoiling anything, you can still see the evidence of it. Lovely grounds too, to have a walk round.

neither, St Edwards R.C in Boston Spa! are you from them parts?
My first teaching post was at St Joseph’s, Harrogate. There for 8 wonderful years before moving to Northants. Loved the Tetleys in The County. Real ale in The Old Tradition on Cold Bath Road and listening to brass band on Sundays in Valley Gdns.Great days!

My old stomping ground before moving back to the seaside a couple of years ago. 'The little Ale House' was a favourite of ours.....great if you are a foody as well with lots of restaurants, walks around the 'Stray' and Valley Gardens, though not a patch on 'Stanley Park'!! Oh the memories, must get back there soon !!

Can't go to Harrogate without sampling Betty's curd tart and Yorkshire rascals. Get them as take out though, it's ludicrously expensive to eat in. Valley Gardens is a really nice park to walk round as well.

Drum and Monkey restaurant not to be missed if you like seafood!

Lived in Harrogate for around 8 years between the ages of 12 & 20.
What an amazing place to go to school, be a teen and then grow up and go out on the beer etc.
Love going back now to visit old pals for a few beers.

Surprising how many miss out on Ripley. The castle and grounds are lovely. Don’t suppose the art shop is still in the village? Bought a couple of originals from them in the past, including a 6 foot square acrylic of Provence that’s pride of place in my lounge.

Sorry mate I don't remember one way or the other. I do like a good art shop myself, but it was about 7-8 years ago I was there.
