Hartlepool v Blackpool Official FA Cup Matchday Thread 08.01.22

I think Critchley is very lucky in the fact that Simon Sadler brought him in, we love Sadler.
Can you imagine if Oyston had brought Critchley in and we had been on the current run of results? People would be screaming for his head.
Sadler brought Grayson in to be fair

Quite straight forward. We are very wasteful with chances.
I’m not sure what you can do from a coaching standpoint when players are missing from 5 yards into an open net.

Lavery, Hamilton and Bowler all had gilt edge chances.

3-0 min at half time, you can then bring on the kids
Yeah absolutely pathetic finishing.

We struggled with it often this season tbh. Its not championship quality. The wasted moves against Hull fir eg, no one able to finish ir play a telling ball.

Distinct lack of quality in finishing moves off.

You feel quite comfortable with the way we play and our results?
I am comfortable with how we play yes. Results need to improve. Should have beaten Huddersfield, daft sending off. Should have held out against Boro for a draw. I want us to win, but I won't join in with the emotional "rubbish" stuff that occurs in here in difficult moments.

We are short of players and punching above our weight. We are in the trenches, need to pull together.

Maybe instead of "On the sofa with..." we can have "On the ** training ground whipping in accurate crosses and banging them into the net with...."

It’s not Critchley’s fault. The players were a damn disgrace, they need to take a long hard look at themselves. CJ is an insult to our shirt, he should never play for us again. He’s not even park football standard. Do our club a favour CJ and just effing leave!!
Critchley accepts the plaudits when things go well, he must expect and accept the brickbats when they don’t.

Annoyingly, the money we might have got from progressing, either by prizemoney, or a TV game could have gone to paying for Brannigan.

WTF do they do in training all week. I'm sick and tired of crosses not getting past the first man. How hard can it be. If it was me I would have them constantly practising until they do at least 50 on the trot.

Why oh why can't we have a cup run. I was 60 over Xmas, and we have been to the FA cup 5th round once in my lifetime. Why are we so shit in the cups.

Really really annoyed at that performance and result. Critchley rightly gets loads of plaudits, but should get a lot of flak for this. Not acceptable

We didn’t deserve to win you lot should of been 4-0 up at half time. We played better second half got lucky deflection for the first and second goal was well taken.

Had pint with some of your fans before game great bunch of lads!

Best luck for the rest of the season.
Cheers and congratulations on your win. Hope you get a big club away in the next round for a nice pay day for your club.

Aside from us being on the wrong end of it, it's exactly what football should all be about. Beats the repetitive, predictable 4-0 wins you see all the time in the Prem.
I would have loved a boring predictable 4-0 win
Unfortunately we haven't got a forward in the team at the moment who could hit a camel's arse with a banjo, so maybe predictable isnt the word to use.

The one game where the forwards could have regained some confidence against a ropey at best defence has in fact shot their confidence to shit.

Please prove me wrong and get a bag full against Barnsley

Without Keshi’s class we are well short. Losing Hubby is another big blow, as he’s head & shoulders better than Garbutt.
And that's why we'll probably suffer in the league now

Simon Sadler insisting we play our best team apparently. Could lose out on 6 million quid if we are relegated because of the injured players during this match

Thanks for that, as for the luck, ask your mates to wish us luck too, we are going to need all the help we can get.😁

Why don’t you get off Hamilton’s back he has played no football for months.
Well done for sticking up for him, but surely it's clear to all that he's just not good enough, and he's far from being the only one! If we survive this season we need to sweep out quite few to have any chance of consolidating in the Champ.

I don’t know if he’s good enough for this league as he’s not really had a chance and he’s playing on his unfavoured side. People are hammering his crossing but it’s always been crap on his right foot.Look how much more comfortable he looks coming down the left side he doesn’t have to check back to deliver the ball.

His finishing was terrible I can’t deny that

Yes we played poorly but still had a fair few chances which on another day we would of scored, give some credit to hartlepool who battled well and in the end got what they deserved,if we had of played a weakened team critch would of got loads of stick, he played a strong team and has lost the game and got a couple of injurys and still gets a load of stick so cant win either way,,yes it would of been nice to win and get a so called bigger team in next round but it wasn,t meant to be ,hopefully the injuries arn,t to bad ,get a couple more signings and lets get to safety asap ,lets keep on supporting the team as we do,staying in the championship is more important to the club and town,at the end of the day we was never gonna win the cup ,and at least we wont have to play more games.utmp

I’d like to think that Critch chose to rest Jerry, but the truth is, he prefers Lavery in the partnership with Madine. It’s madness, so if Simon wanted our strongest team, Critch failed to play it.

The coaching approach 2nd half was amateurish.

Name some class (out of favour) potential loan midfield players who may or may not be beyond us? Here's two starters ....... Drinkwater, Wilshire.

Don't misunderstand me, I'm big Critchley fan and want him to continue and succeed but I think under different circumstances he would be feeling the wrath of some of the fans in the ground.

Especially the physically and mentally weak players.

Must get the midfield strengthened in this transfer window or we are fecked

Their goal scored by an 18 Yr old thrown on and given a chance. Any of our younger lads couldn't have done any worse today.
One game too far after our hard n busy Christmas games. That said the fact that Hartlepool seemed to want it more is the most galling thing.

I've not read the rest of your post after I got to the bit where you said on another day we would have scored!!!!!!
When will we ever see this "other day"?

We have struggled all season to score goals and will continue to do so until we're able to cross and shoot with any sort of composure.

I agree to a certain extent but it's a fine line between that and burying your head in the sand. Since the Stoke game the results have been very poor. Even the two games we've won were far from convincing. It's a long time not just a blip and it's very worrying. The only saving grace at the moment is the bottom 3 look unlikely to catch us but it's a dangerous game relying on that. We are the opposite to the second half of last season and for the first bit of this one....weak and naive. I still back Critchley and Sadler to sort it out though.

Don't misunderstanding me, II'm big Critchley fan and want him to continue and succeed but I think under different circumstances he would be feeling the wrath of some of the fans in the ground.
Yes quite possibly. So don't join in, that's what I'm saying.

He'd be under pressure from a mob of people who demand results regardless of what the circumstances are. Critch has to compete with much more expensive squads game in game out, and has loads of players missing, and Squires Gate for preparation. I appreciate what he's doing and realise we will have tough spells. As many fans do. The big picture shows we have risen to about 30th in the pyramid very quickly and are climbing. At times we will slip back a bit when things work against us. Injuries, red cards etc.

Hmm! Twilight zone. Bizarrely, knew we wouldn’t get through. Had a weird ‘dream’ the other night, where Huddersfield were playing Hartlepool and for some reason, both teams were wearing their home kits. 😯 Couldn’t tell who was passing to who. Both teams through to next round today though. So, Im going Huddersfield to draw Hartlepool in the next round. You heard it here first.

Agree with most of thr above however, as another poster pointed out this is more than a blip. Our last 10 results in the league have been relegation form, Hartlepool have won one of their last eight in league 2. Worrying to say the least, you can’t blame people for being concerned.

As bad as that was could this result be a blessing in disguise - ala Blackburn’s 7-0 trouncing against Fulham moment

And I agree with you to a certain extent. Things need sorting out. But we've not had many bad performances this season in a league where we are financially up against it.

And we could be in the top 6 if we'd just had a bit more.

Baby and bath water springs to mind. We need some players, somebody to replace McCall.

It feels like we can't really afford what we need. Signing Beesley is what we might do in L1. I don't expect Sadler to spend more, we just need to appreciate how well we are doing on a top end L1 budget. Lots of clubs below us spending more.

Yeah there’s always a few who call for peoples heads far too soon.

What’s seriously worrying for me is that there seemed no definitive pattern of play, as soon as Keshi and Hubby went off we looked completely clueless. Too many players not stepping up, they passed it through us at the back far too easily, Madine didn’t win his headers, Lavery missed chance after chance, Bowler didn’t even try to beat his man second half instead started putting high balls in the box, Yates didn’t touch the ball, CJ , well I’ll leave that one there, this January window has all of a sudden just become very important, Keshi and Hubby will u doubtable be out for 2 months minimum, it’s always a danger to play a full strength side at this stage of the season on a poor pitch in the cold an all round really poor performance And disappointing day For the pool.

Lavery has scored a few so far this season ,been out injured comes back misses a few chances in a game ,still getting in the right places so put it down to having an off day all strikers even yates go through bad patches and then have a run of scoring ,happens to most strikers the main point i am making is that most of the time our creative play is not the best but we still created at least 4 or 5 decent chances and at least 1 would possibly of hit the back of the net ,if we had got the second then it would of possibly changed the result just needed a bit of luck just like their first goal with a deflection and give the striker a boost of confidence ,anyway thats my opinion just like you have yours ,
