Has anyone enjoyed this season?

I have really enjoyed the home games, plenty of goals and plenty of wins. Even the losses against Peterborough and Forest were great games of football.

The away days have been poor. I’ve only done four but I’ve seen us get one point and score one goal. I’ve still enjoyed the days though as away days are more than just the football, it’s meeting up with mates for a catch up and a few beers too.

What’s not to enjoy! Measured progress and an improvement on last season too!
tosh. Last season we were in the Championship which is obviously harder. Tell me what measured progress we are making? When did we last win a game away from home before Bristol R? Portsmouth? Performances have been more often than not have been dire away from home so tell me what measured progress you are seeing there? Answer is there isn't any! Our home form is the only reson we are where we are in the league and even though we@ve won plenty of home games many of the performances haven't been good. Far more evidence to suggest there@s been very little if any measured progress since the start of the season.

I think anyone who followed 'Pool pre-1990 would know this has a familiar feel to it and maybe we're just starting to return to our natural place in the Football League. 29 years without Championship football and so where we are feels like the norm. In some ways it feels a bit like the wayward Hendry era where no matter what we did, there was always a frustration in the air.

Still look forward to the games because you know the talent is there to beat every side in the league. But there is simply no consistency all over the pitch.

It's the hope that kills you.
Must say I'm really looking forward to tomorrow - decent weather day and should be a good game.

Frustrating at times, undoubtedly, but yes I’m enjoying it so far. Some good wins at home, the North rocking, as well as seeing quality players like Dembele bamboozle the opposition. As far I’m aware the season’s not over yet! 🍊UTMP

Been going since 1962 season ticket holder from 1964 except for the boycott years. Only really enjoyed the replay against Forest and the win over Bolton . Some wins at home could have turned into draws or defeats because of the way we played. Not been to an away game since lock down except playoff final. But this season I have been thinking why do I bother after some performances. Some players get picked no matter how they play and others get dropped after performing well. At 75 yrs old I still get searched going into the South Stand so for the first time I'm thinking of not renewing next season.

No. The teams good enough to make the playoffs but one man’s stubbornness to not change things up (especially away from home) and impose our game instead of how do we counter act the mighty Port Vale, Cambridge and Burton? Give me a break.

Seriously thinking of not renewing next season. 6 hour round trips for home games to watch (mostly) cagey, boring football. Not worth it. I’ll pick and choose and go to more away game

I'm fifteen minutes away and currently considering if I want to suffer another season of it! I'd rather see us go for it and lose than the sideways tippy tappy shit we've been subjected to this season.

On a positive note, we do seem to have started trying to play better football over the last month!

Frustrated more then anything this season,we absolutely batter some teams at home we are so much better, then can’t win away against shite teams.
I do believe that if we can finish in the playoffs we will go up.

Overall I’ve enjoyed it. I look forward to the games all week just like I have since the mid 70,s. I’ve seen many absolute shite seasons but mostly enjoyed them anyway.
And there’s still a long way to go yet and a chance of a Wembley Final and a memorable day out with my daughters. We may not get a chance of Wembley again for some time…… but we could do 😜

I have really enjoyed this season so far: every home game and five away.

I didn’t enjoy last season at all: trudging up to BR every week in the expectation of getting beaten and watching some dinosaur manager with no clue play boomer ball.

Now there is the chance that on our day we can beat anyone, and we are 90+ minutes from a Wembley trip. As for players I absolutely love Dembele. He excites me to see play as much as anyone for the last few years. You aren’t supposed to fall in love with the loan players but it’s hard not to with Kaddy. Rhodes is a fantastic football underdog story, and Casey is maturing into a great footballer from our younger cohort. It’s a shame we lost our lion Dougall, but football moves on. CJ will either give me something to cheer about or a big belly laugh at least once a game when he does something mad.

I’ve mentioned in other threads too that I like seeing our possession football and I like how Critch sets us out. He is a very very good manager for me, stable and thoughtful about the game.

The ST has been good value this year.

Right - am not a Critchley Out, I haven’t given up on the Play Offs, the cup runs have peppered the season with some interest but overall has anyone enjoyed this season?
As a ST Holder I’ve already accepted a couple of offers of days out on home games because I just find I’m not engaged (despite our home form). Maybe the last 10 years we’ve been through every emotion possible that a mundane season where we’ve never really cemented a place in the top 6 just hasn’t grabbed me?
No.

Its been boring as fuck.

Boring formation. Boring players. Boring manager.

Boring, boring, boring.

And also shit.

Im somewhere between the 2 posts above. The spark has gone somewhat for me. Still looking forward to today’s match though. I suspect it’s a combination of last season’s fuck up & Critchley having to win me over again. I’m under no illusions that we ought to bounce straight back up as far bigger teams than us have struggled to do that for quite a few seasons.

I’ve quite enjoyed it and even been to 10 away games. However, I do have a 280 mile round trip to home games and my enthusiasm for attending all home games has dipped. Covid did teach me that I quite enjoy the longer weekend with the family.

I’ll tell you where I am - it’s not that I’m not enjoying it, am walking out now thinking that was a good afternoon - my problem is I just don’t buy in to this group of players. I can’t see our game winner, our game changer, our motivator - whilst results have gone our way, if we don’t get in the play offs these are the areas we need to explore.

funny how it works.

I think Sadler is a great owner. I believe the squad is good and we have the right manager. But, being honest, this season has been boring as fuck!

Put it this way, if next season was going to be as drab as this watching us pass the ball about endlessly with little or no end product, I won't be buying a season ticket.

Not to mention watching mediocre footballers being played out of postion because the manager is an alleged tactical genius.

I am enjoying it. The football is decent and the team is improving.

It also helps that I hope for good performances and results rather than expect them.

Those that aren't enjoying the season may enjoy it more if they managed their expectations and emotions a bit better.
Well said, Oyston Stooge ...

People talk of measured progress and improving. So far this season we've played 32 league games. For ease, I've broken it down into groups of 8 games..

In games 1-8 we got 12 pts.
In games 9-16 we got 12 pts
In games 17-24 we got 12 pts
In games 25-32 we got 11 pts.

Anyone of you, and there's a good few of you, who has stated we are much improved and making measured progress care to look at those stats and explain how you can come to such a conclusion.

That's pretty telling. Needs one of Mitch's graphics to bring out the full impact of how consistently average we have been. Dullest season I can remember in nearly 50 years following the Pool.

yes it's very telling. I'm not sure anyone could argue that actual performances are improving either. In the last 8 we've had Port Vale, Stevenage and Cheltenham which along with Burton are worse than anything earlier in the season including all those boring 0-0 draws.
Seems a lot of those posters stating measured progress and improving have gone into hiding. ;)

Difficult to maintain any enthusiasm given the tactics, performances and results served up by our clueless Head Coach and overall a very average squad of players.

Agree with the Clueless head coach comment but I wouldn’t say we have a squad of average players at this level at all.In fact I’d say we have a squad that should be in the top 4 minimum.

I'm not so sure, a few appear to have regressed but that may be down to Clueless.
The spine of the team overall isn't that of a promotion chasing / winning outfit.

It’s been awful.

We make choices to attend games to be entertained so when that goes and the product makes you miserable , it’s illogical to keep it up.

I’ve even got to the point that ive decided against getting tickets should we get to the BSM Final. Seems a strange thing to celebrate on the back of a terrible season, and accepting we’re preparing for more of the same next year.

For me if it’s this squad, same manager and minimal investment , I’ll pass on renewing season tickets as this standard in league one is painful to watch.

The uneducated Blackpool fan uses "Oyston" as an insult just as they would use "nazi" as an insult on the real world.
I appreciate I'm addressing a poster possessed of extraordinary powers of intellect, so apologies in advance, but whenever you make reference to a particular social grouping, or class of individual, such as a Nazi, remember to employ a capital as the initial letter in the relevant title you are intending to cover ... But, I'm guessing you already knew that, and therefore must be anxious to apologise for making such a crass error in the first place. Still, I don't suppose you'll be losing too much sleep over the matter!

Exactly this for me also.

There's another thread about not wanting us to lose a game. No way will I waste money on an over priced journey down to the capital to supposedly cheer on a mikey mouse cup encounter. So yes, hope we lose to Peterborough rather than gloss over the cracks of a pitiful season.

Bar odd game the whole season as been a bore fest of sideways backwards passing.. and then hearing critch saying we did well as had 60% of ball.... no it's been utter rubbish

I honestly believe we have the players... for me blame of boredom lays at critch

No.

The home form is great, but it’s not an enjoyable watch, in fact it’s dull and uninspiring. Interestingly there’s a few on this thread who’ve enjoying the football as I don’t know one person who agrees with that viewpoint.
The away form is shocking and generally turged to watch, bar a few games.

Looking from the outside you could argue it’s moving forward. Looking from the inside it’s been a disappointing season, I’ve missed games this season when normally I’d plan my Saturday’s around the football.

On a final note the crowds after last season are good but enthusiasm is dwindling. January we got 10/12 points but it didn’t feel like it! February even though it is only halfway through l, it has seen us drift away from the play offs. Gabriel should be one of the first name on teamsheet when he’s not picked I’m baffled. Enjoyed some of the cup games more. I actually think we should be better with this group of players than we are!

A lot more than last season... which isn't saying much. The fact we are winning most of our home games is important. You can go home on a Saturday, have your tea/pint and bask in the warm glow of slightly fortunate victory over Stevenage for a few hours. Isn't that why we do it?

Going back to the o/p. Didn't renew my season ticket after last season as I miss most midweek games, kids are now of an age where they like to do stuff at the weekend (neither interested in football) and with holidays, Xmas, Easter etc when we tend to be at our holiday home, so it wasn't value for money. Went on Tuesday (booked a half day) and have actually been to 10 of the 17 home games and came to the FA Cup game.
However, I have enjoyed our home games this season to a point (the crowd, the wins! etc) but if I'm honest I have found it all very frustrating to watch. I'll be there on Saturday but with two away games after that, I have a feeling we might well be out of the play off hunt by then and wonder if Saturday will be my last home game (as I will be at Wigan whatever).

Apart from a handful of games,it’s been rubbish, only my opinion, but it has.Apart from Dembele in patches,he is the only one that gets me exited,

Really? It seems to me all we do is route one and hope for a lucky bounce

Yes, the first year of this project is doing well.

We are close to the playoffs, with a bit of a chance to get above 7th place, and had a good cup run albeit a “tinpot” cup.
We’ve seen evidence that NC is building a good squad; he has stress tested most of the squad, mostly by playing them outside their comfort zone and maintaining his formation.
They’ve mostly come through it…

Maybe some players in and out over summer.

I don’t expect us to get into the playoffs this season. It’s a building and transition season.
However year 2 should see us flying high and making the playoffs, if not automatic.

I've only been able to get 8 games so far and they've been a mixed bag. And mostly the goal poaching instincts of Rhodes has been the main sight to see. Though you could tell before his injury that he wasn't used to playing every week.

No idea whether board and owner see this as a transitional year where anything that isn't relegation is a bonus or whether they see Critchley and/or the players as underperforming against expectation or not.
