Have you ever got excited over football boots?

My son’s birthday yesterday and out of everything (and he got a lot!) it was his Nike football boots he got most excited by.

I see footballers on Instagram really getting excited about their boots but have to say I never really ‘got it’. A boot was a boot. Thoughts?

Yeah as a kid in the 80s I was given a third hand pair of Patrick boots made from Kangaroo leather. They had a tear in them but they were still a joy to wear and I was besotted with them.

I remember getting a pair of boots with rotating studs, can't remember the make but do remember how excited I was at the time (this was 2 years ago when I was 55 😆)
Remember those, terrible if running in a straight line but brilliant for turning on a sixpence and run the other way when a 15 stone, 6 feet 6 centre half was heading your way in full steam. Lol

Yep, remember getting a pair of Puma Dalglish as a kid. Fluorescent Yellow outsole. I thought they looked amazing until the yellow eventually wore off...

Got a pair of Patrick,Keegan as a kid and loved them especially the logo. Beckenbauer,Adidas,Puma,Dalglish,New Balance,Bryan Robson,I was still a crap footballer mind!.

My parents used to laugh at me as a child as I'd often to my new boots to bed with me before wearing them for the mighty Foxhall (I'm talking as a 6/7 year old, here) so yes, I've been very excited by football boots in the past.

Think I had some second hand George Best Stylo Matchmakers in the 70's & couldn't wait to wear them, as opposed to some clodhoppers previously, for what it's worth it wouldn't have mattered if I'd wore ballet shoes, as I was crap. 😂

After playing in second hand, moulded sole boots my parents bought me a pair of Adidas boots with screw-in studs for Christmas when I was 10. I felt the dogs bollocks in those I can tell you. Excitement barely covers it.

I fondly remember getting a pair of the classic Adidas Beckenbauer's for my ninth birthday in 1972. I may not have been the best player within my mates, but I sure looked the best!

It was the Craig Johnson Predators that got me excited. I was going to be smashing those top bins as soon as I got a pair apparently…..?

I remember those as well was lusting after them for ages. Used them maybe three times then realised I was going to break every bone in my legs if I ever broke into any other than a dawdling trot

Pair of Gola when I was about 11 and my first kit, which consisted of a plain yellow shirt and white shorts. No idea where it came from but the boots came from that sports shop half way up Victoria Rd at Cleveleys.

Nearly passed out when I was 8 when I got my first pair of Puma boots for my birthday - think the ones the players wear these days are for tarts! 😍

Same here with a pair of Patrick boots I had but it was either 60's or very early seventies. Most comfiest boots ever had and they fit like a slipper..

Adidas Predators for me. They had rubber grippers on the instep for that 'David Beckham' curl/swerve. Also used to put pegs on the tongue to keep is flat and as far down as possible like Beckham used to do. Used to love them boots and would ask my parents to buy me the latest edition every year.

Oh the good old days.

Predators. The first time they came out they marketed them like they turned you into David Beckham. I want my money back 😂🍊

I had a pair when I was 13 and couldn't stop scoring with 'em, barring the times I was in goal. I almost cried when I outgrew them, I handed them over to my cousin.

Adidas Predators - early 20’s, Sunday football after a night on the lash, few bevvies at lunchtime, Sunday roast, Sunday afternoon football .. didn’t appreciate those days!!
