Heineken Lounge

Sorry, I forgot if you sit in the north you have 3 heads. I take it if you sit in the north, you don’t go to work, you eat the bark off tree’s for your evening meal & drink frogs blood as a refreshing drink making you not an “everyday home fan?”
Obviously not!

A wide variety of people who don't fit the the categories of people I listed. 👍🤠
Surely they would be ‘other people’ then for the purposes of this particular categorisation and in the absence of any further categories.

Everyone is normal or nobody is…

Yes normal was the wrong word as I didn't mean the people listed are abnormal but certain people were always going to deliberately construe that! I meant everybody else. The people not being catered for as part of a targeted group like Muckers, corporates, lager louts, families, halfway premium price payers. Lots of people who have to work out which parts of the stadium are left.

That's me!*

*If we get a reserved section with good sight lines. 🤠

(He's alright but he's not THAT good is he?) 🤣
All I'll say is we leave Gaz out of matchday squad for first time in months and we lose 5-0 to a relegated side....

You get a 25% off voucher for the *NCP carton juice drinks experience* but only if you arrive for the game in sackcloth and ashes and speak the holy words "he's Gary Madine. He's a goal machine. Signed him on free. Oi oi oi/hey hey hey" (oi or hey?) in a serious and repentant manner when Tony Parr offers you the microphone.

So are you classing Season Ticket holders who aren’t part of any of your other groups in the ‘others’ category then ?

There’s also disabled fans, young fans that may well be in there (all being catered for)…

Then there’s the Matchday Ticket Fan who likes Bovril with a Meat and Potato Pie, the Tea & Twix man, the Salt & Vinegar Crisps and a Fanta girl etc… Well you get the picture … All catered for 👍

Never been in this lounge, might give it a go, however seems a lot of money if it's ram packed no seating available and long waits for drinks etc.. is the club putting a limited on how many people are in there or is it going to be just like the concourse in the south that has been a shambles last season.

I’m thinking

Pie & Flat Pint in a Plastic Cup - Working Classes
Heineken Bar - Upwardly Mobile Working Classes
Peroni Bar - Aspiring Middle Classes
G&T Bar (with a Premium Seat) - Middle Classes
So no decent beer anywhere in the ground? Only old crusties and scallies catered for?

Mild & Ferret Bar - For the skint Socialists (Free entry upon provision of your Union Card)

Real Ale & Hush Puppy Bar - For the upwardly mobile Socialists

Champagne & Oyster Bar - For the Champagne Socialists

👍

I have a very happy life and lots of beer drinking pals and a beer fridge and I completely avoid all the beers you keep listing. Cheers! 🤠
Pimms, Lemonade & Beanbag Area ?

Merlot & Monster Munch ?

We’ve all got mates, but you can still have fun at the game…

What’s your tipple?

The trouble is we've now got corporate lager louts at one end, Muckers at the other, and away fans down one side. And chunks of the west for family and tartan blanket people with big pensions.

Where do the normal everyday home fans sit? 🤠
Probs on their sofa like you do for 90% of our games.

I went in last season for the Reading at home game with 10 pals of mine. All in all, it was a great day. Good price, good beer & had a chat with BG after the game. My ticket was changed from the North to the South for that game, which wasn’t an issue. Just seems weird you can know only go in the lounge if you’re located in the south for the season?

Do they have a plan to do something similar in the North? I know there’s no way near the room but it’d be great to have a Heineken lounge either side of the halfway line, IMO.
They’ve mentioned improving stuff in the North.

Would make sense to use the old Club shop and ticket office and turn that into a lounge/bar and then move the Community Trust stuff in there somewhere else.

Would make lots of sense income wise to do it in the North.

Does make me chuckle the Real ale crowd who constantly call for the stuff to be sold at the club and moan about Lager.😁

Huge difference one keeps when gap between selling and one doesn't that's why the sell Heineken, Fosters and John Smiths and not a hand pulled pint they'd just throw gallons away asking for it is utterly ridiculous.👍

There’s 3 certainty’s in life…

Death

And AdamsKebab talking sense on AVFTT.

I drink beer 99% of the time. I mostly drink ale rather than lager, some craft and some real ale cask. We have a massively varied beer scene now and macro lager feels like lowest common denominator really. I'm a beer fanatic so I'm choosy. I make beer too, and teach people how to make beer. But each to their own, there's no right and wrong.

Agree but they won’t move the CT
The NE corner is the solution
Create a fan zone in there

There definitely should be room for a wooden shed with a hot Vimto and wagon wheel option. Maybe under the family stand.

When your serving the masses during a few hour window once every couple of weeks, Real Ale of any sort of quality is going to be off limits realistically.

I’ve made plenty of beer myself….👍

Obviously. I'm not advocating that, and I'm not a Camra member either! I'm not really advocating anything, I'm just recoiling at the horror of the Heineken experience I think. And wondering why the club is doing shit stuff like that. The club is getting the big stuff mostly right but things like this seem naff and counter productive to me. Just one man's opinion though.

It’s been packed since it opened and in fairness it’s a decent change from the normal routine. I’ve done it once for the Reading Game so far with a group of us.

I appreciate how it might sound ‘Heineken Experience’ etc.. but if you get past that and don’t take yourself too seriously, it’s actually a decent crack in all honesty.

It’s not OTT prices like normal ‘upper class’ corporate, you get a bite to eat and a decent social during the game / access to a reasonably priced bar with your mates.

There’s clearly a demand and the Club make a few extra quid. I don’t see any harm in it really….👍

I don't take myself too seriously, not in the slightest bit, so stop projecting your version of things and implying that I do please! It's not an acceptable way to discuss things is it?

I don't think it's evil or anything, it just looks horrible. TD53 described the horror much better than I can, yesterday. And I guess it means that unsuspecting fans in the south will now get an influx of lager stoked blokes with very poor taste around them every game. It impacts on others! 🤠

I wish I had the self-importance you feel to yourself.

Sorry Voy, I was using "You" in the royal sense as opposed to directing my comments at you personally, but I apologise for the confusion, I could have been more clear.

I think TD53 comes at the subject from a pretty narrow minded perspective really.... Everything like this tends to be framed in the context of some kind of historical puritanical vision of how football 'used to be' and how money and corruption (the very thing that actually gave birth to the game we all love) tarnishes anything and everything.

Fortunately we don't live our real lives through the prose on the pages of a blog (some of us prefer the comfort and solidity of old fashioned pen and paper, instead of this new fangled financially driven, fame seeking social media*) and back in the real world, it's just people relaxing on a Saturday with a few pals, having a beer and enjoying the game. It really doesn't offend or impact on anyone at all...

In essence, I suspect that both yourself and TD53 might perhaps prefer it if it were more shit, intrusive and offensive than it is... I'm not sure that judging others or the 'experience' itself is really fair.

I run online courses, if you're interested?

But they're VERY expensive.
As being one of those “non-normal people who sit in the north stand” who just so happens to have a very good job - name your price.

Or shall I just fund you to attend a few more games next season, seeing as you’re a very opinionated supporter for one that rarely attends matches…

Well I think you're 5aking td53 too seriously tbh, he was obviously being tongue in cheek. Pining for the good old days that will never return and poking fun at himself.

We don't want it to be more shit. We just have different tastes, and wish some things were more to our taste. But I think we appreciate that this is a football stadium and we are in a small minority. Neither of us is being entirely serious.

You just misunderstood what I said, tbh, and now have got into a big strop. It's not worth it. You're wasting your time and energy, but not nearly as much as I am.

You think i'm looking down on people in the north. I'm not at all. The north is great. My son loves it. Keep up the good work. 👍

I could kind of grasp that if you actually had an expressed ‘taste’, but it comes across in both instances, that your taste is more about the denial of variety or the enjoyment of alternatives as opposed to anything concrete.

Your looking down on people who drink Lager the club doing something different classing everyone else not normal.
Coming across as a grade one snob.😘

What? Not the case at all. I like all sorts of things, I'm just not a fan of that Heineken experience thing.

Sorry if that's how it seems. I don't think people who drink lager are not normal, it would be ridiculous if I believed 5hat wouldn't it? Why would anyone believe I actually think that? It's not what I said. Or intended. But I'm obviously coming over badly and putting people off. I should get off the forum, tbh, and do summat else. Lifes too short. Went to a friend's funeral on Wednesday and visited a close family member in hospital on Friday. So I'm probably not quite on it at the moment. Bit angry.

That’s what I mean though Voy…

I can understand you not wanting to partake in the Heineken ‘experience’ thing. What I struggle with is that you and others seem to not like the idea that the option even exists for others to enjoy.

(Edit … seen your post above… point taken, maybe not the best time etc..)👍

It just feels like a strange concept to me. Just my opinion. And a very narrow concept, lacks any sort of broad appeal. What about everyone else?

A ‘strange concept’ - Its a bite to eat and access to a bar facility. It’s hardly strange really is it?

You make it sound like it’s sone kind of weird concept invented by aliens.😂

I thought it was ok but to me £10 was the max I would pay...£15 is a tad expensive for what it is...koudos to the club for trying new ideas to enhance the matchday experience

It looks weird to me. But I'm not an aspiring businessman who spends a lot of time in airport lounges and Travelodges.

Am I a snob? Probably. I think a lot of our culture now is pretty shit. Shit food, shit drink, crap places to eat and drink them in. Obese people who eat shit regardless, hooked on crap by the methods of big food businesses. That's obviously a very old fashioned view. I need to catch up and enjoy myself more!

Like I said, you’re way off the mark in terms of “imagination vs reality” on this one.

If you, the oracle, says so, as ever. We all have different realities, and imaginations. Some people have very little imagination. Hence the Heineken experience. 👍
