Hull City v Blackpool Official Matchday thread 26.12.22

Poor team management on display again.

Poor defending / decision making for the sending off but a different sub at half time doesn’t leave our slowest CB in that position. A CB who we weren’t sure would be back before Jan due to serious concussion too… so it’s a weird decision with Thompson there.

An earlier sub off for Beesley and fresher legs maybe closes down the cross for their equaliser.

Poveda off - not really sure why when he’s the main threat.

Plenty of questions for the manager to answer.

Better than nothing, but not great, could have had more, Carey chance, Beesley in but slowed down, maybe because he's not fully fit, but kept him on another 15 mins anyway. Should have had a pen.

The 10 men kind of held on, definitely battled hard, but didn't hold on as they still conceded.

We never hold on with 10 men.

Just can't keep 11 on the pitch.

Could have done with the win there. Some results went for us so not all bad.

Well fought point, we probably played our best football when we went down to ten men, should have scored a couple really. No issues with the sending off one of the few correct decisions the ref made all game, but it stems from defensive disorganisation. They all put in a shift, but we are all over the place all of the time. Our last ditch defending is superb because everyones working hard but it shouldnt be that difficult.

Beesley was done on about 65 minutes he could barely run, needed a substitution then, not fifteen minutes later.

Hull are absolute pony, but they have some decent players. probably the two most tactically inept coaches in the division.

He will get a January transfer window unfortunately
He might not if we lose the next two. The last 3 matches have all been against poor teams. The next two are a significant step up. The trouble is if we lose them we will end up looking for a new manager whilst the transfer window is open.
He should have gone before the world cup, all the last three draws have done is delay the inevitable.

We are struggling. Real lack of confidence and quality.

When you are down things don't go for you.

Reckless by Thornley today, he'll be on the back seat all alone on the bus.

I thought we played to our abilities. Defence is a massive problem.

I still wouldn't get rid of MA, mainly because I don't think there is a stand out replacement there for us.

Coming in at this moment is a poisoned chalice that no one with any creds would consider.

Bookmark this, I think we will claw out way out.

I honestly think the players deserve a better coach / manager, they are not without talent, they are prepared to fight, but we set up in such weird ways. It almost came off today but i could say that about a lot of games this season.

I think we might claw our way out, despite Appleton.

i dont think the defence is a problem its the way we set up, theres very rarely a great deal of defensive shape. how many times was the ball played over the top today for either the wingers or attackers to run onto. with ten men the players got into a defensive shape, and became very difficult to break down.

lack of quality is a big problem.

biggest problem? we give the ball away too often in open play, and rarely win the loose / second ball.

Single points aren’t enough - especially against relegation threatened teams. 22 games to avoid relegation and we need to average approx 1.2 points per game to reach 51 pts. Currently we only average 1.05. If we lose our next 2 games (both against good teams with massive followings, and without any clear sign of our injuries subsiding or any chance for fresh blood to be brought in) we’re gonna need closer to 1.5 per game. Appleton isn’t going to inspire that improvement.

There was a strong whiff of inevitability about that result after the sending off.

A point not a disaster, but we need to start picking up wins from somewhere and those missed chances were costly.
Lack of quality is costing us.

Good away point after being down to 10 for so long.
Thorniley looked like he was running through treacle for the sending off, he should have let the guy go once he'd pissed past him, Grimmy pretty good in a one on one.
