Hull City v Blackpool Official Matchday thread 26.12.22

Will it be on Tangerine TV? At a bloody family dinner at a pub at 2pm so likely to miss the first half
Ditch the starter and pudding!

Did wonder if it'll be on TTV but presume from the silence it'll be treated as a Saturday 3pm game.

It's a really big game for the season but also feels like nobody is arsed. Not much build up at all. Probably a sign of where we're at.

Need a spark. Hopefully it can come from a battling win. If we concede after clinging on for a point then it's going to be difficult to put a brave face on it.

No doubt MA's media duties in the morning when he tells us he's got 24 players out with injuries and illness should be fun.

Merry Christmas

Appleton is at it again, saying what a threat Hull are since Rosenior has taken over, especially in the final third. He says they keep the ball, take risks and are not afraid to make mistakes (says he quite likes that) He also says none of the injuries have improved in the last week. Bundle of fun isn’t he.
He also said much positive about what we need to do.

All managers give the though game routine, it's standard.

Of course what he should have said is Hull are absolutely useless and we have a fully fit squad available.

As I said the other day (and wrongly thought about Cardiff game) - when we are at our worst is normally when we start winning.
That all said, it’s starting to whiff a little bit like a muggers or Clarke season. Dour manager and clueless football.

I wouldn’t have thought as the season started that I’d be championing 4-4-2 but I’ll take any scraps right now that gives us half a chance to bring the best out of our attacking players. We do have pace and trickery out wide so sod it let it rip and see if Gaz or Jerry can get on the end of one or two like the old days???

Marv is better when he doesn’t have to think it through. Win tackle, look up and lump it into the space behind the full back for fast lad to run onto. This Marv can do.
Look up, beat press and slide pass into the feet of the midfielders - mmmm…. Oh look Marv has been dispossessed dallying.

Best of luck and safe travels today! I am in York for the hols to see mother and siblings. No public transport to get me to Hull and back though. #UTMP

Based on complete guesswork, I'm predicting an unlikely festive away win followed by three home defeats on the bounce. Appleton Out.

Got a positive feeling for today. Miss the boxing day game but not really possible for an exile with family commitments. Enjoy it lads and lasses. UTMP

Not much in this. Scoring will be at a premium and 1-0 either way would not surprise, along with a low score draw.

I know the team is on another thread but lets keep it tidy.

TEAM: Grimshaw, Connolly, Ekpiteta, Husband, Garbutt, Patino, Carey, Poveda, Beesley, Yates, Madine

Subs: Moore, Williams, Thorniley, Thompson, Dougall, Wright, Lavery

No dougall in a 442???. Looks weak in the middle, especially physically. Be interesting to see if Marv can keep his discipline.

Shocking line up. Yates as a proper winger with two big guys upfront. Lavery can get a game on the wing but not upfront?

Hope I’m wrong but that looks like a physically weak midfield. Going to have to keep hold of the ball otherwise we are going to be bullied out of it in the middle.

Clearly a 433 with three lightweights in the middle - talented though they are.
Should have been Dougal for Beesley at the start in a 442.
C'mon lads - prove me wrong!

Light as a feather in the middle - lump it to Madine and beesley and hope Jerry latches on to a ball 🤷🏻 good to see Poveda start .

Keep your discipline Marv, as the ref likes to dish out yellow cards ....
Referee - John Brooks:
Brooks has spent the majority of this season in charge of PL games with just two Championship matches under his belt, showing 9 yellow cards in those 2 games.
The 32-year-old has handed out 50 yellow cards in 13 games.
Until we recruit tough tackling, hard working, creative midfielders, the midfield will always be our achilles heel.
