If we did go up

My old man keeps saying to me: "would you even want this lot up?"

As a fan I don't think you can view it like that, just hope we go up and then it's down to the board to give us a fighting chance. If you're worried we'll come straight back down to League One, why would you want us to just stay in League One without the Wembley trip or big days out in the Champ? I'll take a day out to Wembley, give Preston a slap round the chops and come back down rather than 3 seasons in League One instead.

But I agree that we'd need to do some stellar business if we went up, our two players with the biggest impact on the team this year are both on loan: Dembele and Rhodes.

The rebuild job would be ludicrous - in fact I’d say practically impossible.
A couple of decent tall ball playing CB's with a bit of pace....

A couple of Quality midfielders, 2 strikers, Dembele type or Dembele. Maybe more.

Yes we'd need a few in but you get the best of loans too.

Plus the best of what we have and we'd have a decent team.

We'd certainly put a competitive squad together, as we always do.

One word - Rotherham 🫥
Should have gone last season - awful side. Interesting how QPR, Birmingham and Huddersfield are all still down there as well.
Had we have survived last season we'd have been in that pack and if/when we go back up that will be the reality of life in the Championship for the foreseeable.

With a few players out of contract at the end of the season, we have a recruitment (or contract renewal) issue anyway.

Better to have that issue knowing we're a league higher surely?
Promotion would actually simplify contract renewal. Most would be moving on.

Grimshaw
Gabriel
Ekpiteta
Byers
Dembele

By my reckoning we'd have a 5-a-side team, 2 players if Marv doesn't renew and we couldn't tie down Byers and Dembele. Some may be OK as squad players but the fact we've struggled in L1 tells me we are way off Championship level.

For the players it’s a bit like turkeys voting for Christmas. Get promoted and then moved out . A few years ago the nobbers were in a decent position for promotion to the premier league . Word has it that the players got together and decided it wasn’t in their best interests to get promoted and strangely they fell away very late on in the season .

The ones to keep???? Rhodes (who isn't our player) and would not be at the same level in the Championship, Dembele who isn't ours, Expiteta who was effective in the Championship but isn't the same player since Critchley came back, Gabriel, Joseph, maybe Lyons, Morgan. Thats it!!! let me know if i've missed anyone

The longer we stay in League One the smaller we become. We probably would come straight back down again but the money even one season will get us will give us a real chance to eventually establish in the Championship so of course we want to go up. The gulf between Premiership and Championship is massive and that gap is also getting bigger between Champ and League One.
If we don’t get up within five years then I fear it could become 20 years.

That sounds really, really credible.....

As a fan I can only focus on the here and now. If we go up via the play offs this season then this team will have deserved it and I'll have had a brilliant season supporting them. Worrying about next season is for the grown ups at the club 👍.

The question is would SS want to spend the amount needed?

Personally I think it's too big a task and although part of me says that you take it as you don't know how long it will be until another chance, and part of me saying better to rebuild with maybe 6 players coming in who are of cship standard (or better than we already have) this summer.

Head and heart stuff.

A bit like the season we went down, all we needed to do was finish above the perennial Championship shit teams like QPR, Rotherham, Birmingham and Stoke. Even with the squad we had, if managed correctly we wouldn't have gone down. McCarthy was a bigger mistake than Appleton.
