In/Out of Contract players + 1 options

Dougall in league 1 is a quality player. Strong, decent technique, rarely injured. Definitely keep him if my decision
He has not imposed himself in any game since Wembley, Agree with rarely injured but that is all.
He is a bit part player under 3 managers

Not sure when they have to decide whether or not to take up the option. Could do with the new manager being able to have a look at him before then. If that's Dobbie then he may already have an idea, but I doubt he'll have watched too many of his games this season.
I'm pretty sure 31 May is the deadline for exercising the option.

Even if the next manager doesn't fancy him, I think there's a modest transfer fee to be had by exercising the option, so most likely that'll happen.

Dougall had the most number of assists last season, and this season has scored as many goals as Patino, Poveda,Fiorini, and Rogers

combined in the league.

Critchley rated him last season and he played in a midfield with someone equally experienced as a partner, in Wintle and Stewart the team

finished with 60 points. This season it has been obvious that Appleton wanted rid of him from the very beginning of the season

and apparently reading between the lines on social media he was expecting to go in January until Appleton lost his job and Bridcutt

didn't recover from his injury.

If Critch had stayed he probably would have gotten into the World Cup squad. This season he has received criticism for set pieces, that both

Appleton and MM made him take them, but we don't seem to have anyone else in the squad that is really good at taking them either. Fiorini

had a number of set pieces against Birmingham that were all poor. It is ironic that we have a multi-million-pound player in Bowler

that is a winger, and yet cannot deliver a cross from a set piece especially as he cannot head a ball either.

Squad reduces to 22
Need another keeper 3rd keeper from dev squad.(u21)
Hubbie and Dougall to go
Yates probably sold
Keshi of the 3 out of contract if he wants to
That I think is down to 17 but
hopefully a couple loaned out from those listed.
The squad does reduce to 22 but I'm pretty sure that's exclusive of goalkeepers so it's effectively back to 25.
On the squad there are also several players in the Development Squad who have not been included on anyone's list. Some, but not all, will be U21s of course. There will also be some graduates from this years u18s who will be getting pro-contracts.

The squad I think we should be left with .. about 6 decent players short of a good push next season.

Agree with that. We might sell 2 or 3 as well so we can expect a few new players in.

I'd keep Lyons and let Dale go!

I'd also keep Reece James and let Lavery go.

Dale did not get significant game time last time round as very much in Bowler's shadow, so I personally have not seen enough of him.
I think Yates will go, possibly to Sunderland as he is, not Prem quality but cold do well at the top end of Championship, Madine will also go so Lavery should stay. He is a goal poacher, sticking him out wide did not do us or him any favours.

Just a question players with 1 year options do players have to accept the clubs offer & do the club have to offer them the same money or more or the player is free to walk ?
Also will they be able to offer players the same wages as this season or can they reduce them because of relegation.
Will players have there wages cut for dropping a division.
Any one got any answers?
There's a bit in there about games / minutes played.
If a certain number us reached then the player / club can exercise his right to /club can, invoke the option.
I think it was the ex winger Orlandi who the club wanted to keep but he finished about 2 minutes shy of the club being able to invoke the option. He was subbed on his last game.

Amazing to think that something KOKO started, we were the first club to start "options" , is now standard practise across the footballing world.

If the club wanted to keep Orlandi why was he subbed in that game? Must have been for an injury not tactical or did they in fact not want to keep him to save on wages the following season?

If I remember rightly it was a miscalculation, from the club

Written down on here, you can see why we ended up in the mess we did. So little quality in that squad and a ruthless clear out (including getting some of those players out on loan) is needed.

Yep, goalies don't count to the squad lists. So it's 22 outfield players (including a minimum of 8 homegrown) + goalies + u21 :

He'll be better with better coaching and better organisation around him. All the players will. Marv would return to the player he was under Critchley. Etc.
Highly doubt it he's a headless chicken. Cost us about 4 or 5 games this year. His defending is horrendous

If we're serious about challenging, we'll need a decent striker so not sure why we'd get rid of Yates. Same as Bowler this year, cash in and don't suitably replace

Dale did not get significant game time last time round as very much in Bowler's shadow, so I personally have not seen enough of him.

Whether Madine goes or stays, he's out injured until 2024 at the earliest.

I dont think we will see Madine again, the cost to keep him whilst injured would not be acceptable to the club. I also think some of our players will perform better in the division below Thompson being one of these. The main thing for me is to see a good spine through the team with 3 players added who will bring all the attributes we need for a team aiming for the top.

I am not being critical of your post as I both understand and agree with your point about re-investing players sold into the team, this would make the “Product Offer” more appealing and “should” increase attendances by playing more attractive football…..HYPOTHESIS

The problem is too many of The Fylde Coast’s Population are either individually “financially unable” or as in most cases “financially inwilling” to support Championship Football.
Therefore our “”Custodian” has to take the transfer money to help “balance the books” on a day to day basis or we would not have league football in the town at all…REALITY

Having fought hard and made sacrifices alongside many thousands of other NAPMers to get an owner like we now have, I am personally sickened by the “toys out of the pram” attitude some Poolsters have demonstrated in certain posts on this Forum recently.

We came up as a division 1 club and the towns population, whether due to “financial inability” or…..as in most cases ”financially unwillingness” have failed to move the club up to a Championship set up, so we are therefore returning to our current rightful place division 1.

I’ll certainly be getting my Season Ticket for next season as soon as they are on sale, whilst I’m sure most existing ST holders will follow suit, it’s the “One Game Johnny’s” that need to start buying Season Tickets too!
I respect some people may not be financially able to do so due to “economic impracticality” but they are very much a minority.

By buying an ST you will be paying around £14 a game.
I do believe Five Game Book Vouchers that can be exchanged for any match throughout the season should also be available for £100.
Obviously with these vouchers you are not guaranteed the same seat every game……a benefit ST holders only should enjoy.
Individual match tickets should be £28 so we can charge away fans that too, to generate more income into the club.

We ALL have our part to play in taking the club forward!!!

Only My Opinions,
Ashley 🧡🚌
Really good post and an excellent summary. I agree on the flex five ticket. Only got up for 10 games this season so per game didn’t get value out of ST. We only have a 22 squad rule in league one so that should save on some wages as well.

I think Stewart, Bridcutt, Maxwell and Garbutt will not have their options renewed. I see all the others with plus ones being retained. The remaining players out of contract I can’t see sticking around - they will move on to bigger clubs or for more dough elsewhere despite us wanting to retain them or in the case of Bez, thanks for your service and best of luck.

Gaz will go I reckon. Not sure about Kenny and CJ. Or Lavery tbh. Dobbie may want more technical players than CJ and Lavery, perhaps?

Only 12 there I'd keep - massive rebuild job needed!

We seem fine for full backs and middling for centre backs. But very short in midfield and up front. We've hardly anyone in those two departments you'd want to build around. I'm assuming Jerry leaves.

We definitely need to keep Lavery, a developing, hard working player who will be excellent if played as a striker.
I agree . Lavery is just the sort of player that Dobbie ( who will hopefully get the job) will get flying . CJ, Carey , Lavery , Holmes, Apter Plus a few North of the border additions and a surprise here and there. Could be very exciting and refreshing next season

I admire your optimism. I suspect that quite a few on that list we just won't be able to keep. Strangely enough one or two will have boosted their chances of moves by the better end of season football and effort put in under Dobbie
