Incoming….

Great news if true of course, but confused and intrigued as to how it pans out.

If indeed we're getting Sterling (who I know nothing about, but based purely on thoughts here, sounds first team ready and a big player for us this year), Gabriel is a strange one.

We can't afford to spend that level of money on backups, so again - if correct - JG is a first teamer. DS sounds closer to making his parent first team than our other Prem loans were so Chelsea will obv want him playing.

So one of three possibilities. RB rotation like JG did with Turton last year, RB/RWB rotation depending on Critch altering the set up game by game, or both playing and one in a different role to RB.

Not sure where else JG can play so if they both play right side, with probably DS further forward, then as said above Bowler's impacted. Can Josh move to left? In the two home games his right foot crossing looked a little weaker, if he got round the outside of their RB maybe his left foot delivery will be better? Or is it possible for JB to play centrally, in the 10 role, and get running at the middle - not sure about that, he might get crowded out too much to be as effective.

I know it's the modern way, I just never get fully used to the rotation thing. If we sign players good enough, then I always hope to see them as much as possible. Develop our style, and let other teams worry about us for a change, especially at home. All the players mentioned could fit into that, even if it's pushing quite a few of the names we've got used to over the late notice 12-18 months out of the frame. The likes of Anderson, Mitchell, CJ.

Lots of questions, if all these signings happen. Should be good.

Obviously. But pay 600k for a back up RB?

I'll believe it when I see it.

£600k for a first choice RB would be top money IMO, for someone when it's not clear if he's first choice or backup is not plausible (again IMO).

Also, there remains the very basic point that the florists are very short of full backs generally, so selling off one of the very few they do have is "strange".

I just hope we don't drop Sterling and get Gabriel instead. Personally.

Been off here for 2 days and everyone is giddy about some kid called Sterling who has never been mentioned on here before.

Will comment on what I do know and that’s that Gabriel fits our model and clearly wants to play for us, kept his Twitter pic as him in a Blackpool shirt and clearly enjoyed his time here. I also think his defensive weaknesses were over played.

Delighted to be signing him and wouldn’t complain at having another versatile option there to support him either.

Bit of additional quality at DM and then we can see how the squad as a whole gets on.

Positive moves all round.

His pace also is something that can be useful going forward but lessens the threat of wingers running at us a bit too, as he can keep up more than some.

If we sign both, to get our best XI out we might shunt one of them over to LB. Not ideal but I'm not sure Garbutt is either.

We will have options, with different formations, systems, can pick on opponents and crucially when we do the above it will be players who are playing in their correct positions.

@Grayth it did seem weird to wait for Gabriel if we weren’t getting him after all 👌🏼

Critch has said he wants two players for each position, so getting both Gabriel and Sterling would make sense. Of course one or the other might decide they want to play every game and might decide not to come, or Chelsea could decide that.

If we get them both, we’re going up!!!

Big day today - I hope these signings all come off. I trust in our club to do the right thing these days and have every confidence in our Management Team. I honestly am not too worried about our start - I believe we will be ok and finish mid table.

600k is a big fee for us, but it's not much for this level, especially for a position you're desperate to cover.

Gone are the days of anyone they can get and the club has clearly been holding out for the right players, even if it was in January.
I think the quality free and low cost transfers we got in the early part of summer, have allowed us to splash a bit of cash.
All the threads about not having a recognised RB look a bit silly now as obviously this has been in the pipeline all summer, and we stuck with our first choice target rather than a scattergun approach.
We should show more trust in the club

Joe Nuttall fee was rumoured to be £750,000 not a good investment, Sterling maybe a future. Prem Star but not broken any pots yet with Gabriel we know what we are getting

We have no idea what the Nuttall fee was and I submit this thread as proof 😅

Sterling should be a good signing. Gnashers likes it so that'll do me.

Sterling is absolute quality and I fully expect him to go on and play for Chelsea. Strong - skilfull - fast - reads the game well and can slide passes in. This dude could easily step into our midfield or play CB. I am surrounded by Chelsea fans round here and they all rate him very highly. Very good signing!!

However much it was, with wages, it’s a million or more ££s completely wasted**. That’s probably why we proceed with caution now, once bitten etc.
** Not entirely it contributed well towards Grayson pension fund.
Regardless I hope we see him in tangerine again.
