Interesting comments from Owen Dale

That’s exactly what Critchley has been asking for and today the players have stepped up to the plate and done the business.
Oh right 😂

I think it’s the 3rd time we’ve started with Dembele behind a front two… the other two times we’ve been 3-1 and 2-0 up at half time. The only other times he’s operated behind a front 2 we bear Fwood 3-1 in the 2nd half and equalised at Oxford.

Glad the coach set the players to do the business. It’s the perfect combo for the rest of the season.

Yet plenty were moaning at half time about the lack of attacking intent despite being two up.

mary mary quite contrary. When have we played two strikers up top, a player in the hole [Dembele] , two wing backs as such because pretty much Husband was at left back and Carey and Dougall doing a great job in midfield and being positive on the ball looking forwards.

Why has it taken this long for the genius to make this happen? Oh wise one? 😉
As I said on another thread, he’s recently had a bit of a break in what had been a fairly relentless few weeks of fixtures. So an opportunity for him to get some quality time in with the players on the training ground and really drive home those important messages.

It’s a process with Critchley ….. He’s methodical sticks to his plan and delivers every time …. The mark of a true footballing genius 👍

Yer…. If only Critch had listed to the experts on AVFTT… Dembele would have never kicked a ball, because the experts on here had written him off, Beesley would have been sent out on Loan, Rhodes was an old has been who hadn’t scored for ages, Kenny Dougall’s career was over as he just gave the ball away, Carey was never going to make it… Eki couldn’t pass to save his life, Grimshaw needed to be replaced… CJ was the shittest player to ever grace BR and needed to be dropped and ** Joseph was just a make-weight in the shit Jerry Yates deal…

Thank god you took in the Armchair Expert advice and didn’t persist with all of those shit players and mould them into a successful team…

Oh … hang on a minute ….

The biggest change was surely the mentality change.

There wasn't anything dramatically different about the lineup compared to some others was there?

We had Marv in a 3, which many said can't work, but did as he's started just passing it simply without worry.

But we went ahead and kept playing, which may come from the manager and players. But tbf Critchley had called it out before as not what he wanted, he wanted us to keep playing.

It also helps to have a quality addition like Joseph to bring on, who was involved in both goals 2nd half. We also had Dougall at his best, linking with Dembele, good patterns of play from many.

We raced into a hansom lead against Cheltenham but seemed to fall ever deeper against the managers wishes and went into that panic mode where we forget how to pass that we've been well known for for a while.

We've been asking to keep playing and we did yesterday, it's one game only but it was great to see.

He listened to them that's all that matters.

I don't think it's a coincidence that the Holloway book was sent and suddenly the mentality of the manager and players has changed. 🤔
Yep. We’ll all look back at the end of the season and say “you know what, the day that shite book got delivered by a sad stranger with nothing better to do was really a turning point for us”.

You mean it wasn’t Critchley deciding to implement the advice that the AVFTT experts knew was the right thing to do before the season had even started ?

😲
This was always going to be the case.

Give the manager pelters when we’re not winning every game and when we are doing well it’s because he’s stayed up all night reading this board and finally listened to the anonymous experts.

We are coming back to this again. It’s why I was so binary in September when 75% of the posters on here either wanted him gone immediately or couldn’t make up their minds.

Critch is Alex Ferguson. His teams start slow in the season. It takes them time to get fit to follow his game plan. We often don’t have the players he needs to make it work so again it takes time to get lesser players to be adequate. Then it goes from shit, to fair to moderate to good to being a massive tangerine steamroller that will not be stopped. This team is going up this season.

Kenny gets it, Hubby gets it. CJ gets it. They’ve seen it all before and now showing as our best players this season after stinking the place out last season. Injuries have slowed our progress but that’s helped fringe players get their chance to show up. That means post Jan, we’ve a squad that can weather injuries as 20+ players have all got first team action this season and know their roles.

I know most on this bb feel like a woman scorned or weirdly want the manager to fail. They’re the ones posting heavily when we lose and missing when we win. Critch is taking us up.

The funny thing is that is probably what Critch hoped for but now he's seen the right players can achieve that he'll make the right team choices.

Interesting the Pompey manager said that Dale would fit perfectly in with his team - bearing in mind how well he went down at Pompey and the impact he had, is it just we're not playing him in the right position?
