Interesting Covid Developments...

So spelling bigotry in capital letters means what exactly ?
to be fair scara, recidivist was trying to be amusing. You asked to expand on "bigotry" so he spelt it out in capital letters so you could say it took more space, in other words expanded it.

Coppiceman and recidivist on the same thread. Always the same posting style. Two peas in the same pod.

Fair dos, I missed that one. But to be fair recidivist or coppiceman don’t really do anything remotely funny.

I have no idea if it was man made or evolved from some filthy animal market. But either way it came from China And they have got off very lightly from the whole world, mostly thanks to the apologists trying to blame everyone but.
It's not really apologists, more economics, unfortunately for the rest of us. Their leadership is utterly horrible but that's capitalism for you.

Always worth another watch.

Best quote in the comments 'That is rare, a Citroen with 2 working electric windows.'
Still makes me laugh today. Tbf the bloke on the scooter probably caused this by jumping the traffic at the first roundabout.

Doing a bit of digging into the above. Dalgleish is an Oncologist, did great work in proving the origin of HIV / Slim. Has stock and ties to a vaccine company, which his two fellow authors also work for. The spin above says they proved that the sequence on the spike protein was unnatural, and Dr Sorenson verbally claimed the same. However, the peer removed paper did not include this, as the reviewers asked them to consider it possible that the change was a natural mutation, this class of organism by definition states at a high rate. When you think about it, if you are trying to sell a vaccine, you want people to think it will keep working for a long time, if natural mutation is high, it may not be useful for long. Or is that too cynical?

No not too cynical Mossy.
It’s hard to know what to believe at this point isn’t it.
Would like to think we’ll actually get to know the truth at some point, but that’s also doubtful.

One of the Government Health advisors and one of the Scientists are saying UK could be entering a third wave with the Indian variant and that the relaxing of restrictions should be put on hold until it is sae to do so.

I have a horrible feeling this is going to happen and it's of the Governments own making because they didn't stop travel into this country from India immediately and letting tens of thousands of people back into the Country from India.

The people arriving from India were British citizens so we couldn't have stopped them anyway. The most you can do is ask people to quarantine but, ultimately, that's up to the individual.

This 4th/5th/6th wave mentality could go on indefinitely. At some point, the population is going to have to learn to live with covid. As far as I can see, the only new development is that some academic got himself on the Today programme and the BBC have led with the story for the whole day. The case numbers are tiny compared to winter. More people are dying of other causes. ONE person was reported today of having died of covid.

They put them on the red list before anything was known about the variant, at the time case numbers were far below Europe as well, what more do you want?

Hindsight is wonderful isn't it?

Yup and football will be a casualty. Whatever is happening I just hope it doesnt affect the start of the new season.

That's just not true is it? They knew about the variant weeks before but I await one of your graphs!!

Okay, but we know that the lab was conducting "gain of function" experiments on exactly this type of virus, so when a strain emerges that is suspiciously well adapted to the human upper respiritory tract we are entitled to wonder if the two are linked.
We know? Written evidence please from a reputable source.

Part of the issue for me is when they add a country to the red list they usually give people 3-4 days to get back before it comes into force which surely isn’t ideal, shouldn’t it be immediate?

I know this makes abroad travel risky that it could change to amber or red when you are there but what do people expect in a global pandemic?

June 21st is clearly not happening and I fear a local lockdown for Lancashire sooner or later and back to square one.

Once everyone has had the chance of both jabs enough has to be enough and we have to get on with life, we can’t keep going on like this. If people do not want the jab then that’s down to them and if they end up catching it/cases rising then so be it, they don’t want the jab so their own fault. I appreciate some will still catch it and end up in hospital sadly even after two jabs but the figures are clearly a lot better since the roll out especially in the elderly so for the majority it is doing the job.

There was 1 death yesterday. This media frenzy of a 40% rise in cases in a week is from a very low figure of 2,439 to now 3,383 in a population of 67 million people. If 2 deaths are reported today then there will be a 100% rise in deaths, it’s getting daft.

The vulnerable are now vaccinated which was always the mantra, they are the people who account for 99% of deaths and hospitalisations, people seem to have lost sight of this or forgotten it due to the media fear and the tossers at SAGE who think the 3rd wave is here and we shouldn’t open everything back up.

We opened everything up in July last year with no vaccines so why would we need to lockdown again, many states In America have ditched restrictions and seen cases continue to drop.

Spending Sunday out and over the past few weeks, people aren’t arsed anymore. Masks need to be fucked off, most are sacking it off now as the logic that to walk into a pub wearing one and sit at your table 5 yards away or to go the toilet with one on is saving any lives is absolute lunacy, you don’t need to be a scientist to work that one out and incidentally, I don’t think many of the Sage crew frequent pubs or have had any part of their lives disrupted financially with all this, if anything they are making more money for appearances, which makes it very easy to say we need to keep restrictions.

No graphs, but I hope links to Wikipedia will suffice.

B.1.617 was first designated as a "variant under investigation" on 15 April 2021, however B.1.617.2 wasn't added to that list until 29 April (previous link), which is important because it is B.1.617.2 which was later upgraded to a "variant of concern" and is the strain known as the Indian variant.

So although B.1.617 was first detected last year (alongside no doubt hundreds of other mutant strains), B.1.617.2 (AKA VOC 21APR-02) appears to be a much more recent strain and none of the 3 strains were considered potentially significant until 15 April and the really significant strain wasn't identified until after that date.

To add some context approximately 5% - 10% of cases in France are the B.1.351 "South African" strain, which is designated as a variant of concern, but nobody seems to be calling for them to be put on the red list.

I think it's fairly obvious that they don't want people turning up only to be sent straight back as they aren't UK nationals, or who haven't booked their hotel quarantine and aren't prepared for it, so that means the airlines checking and enforcing the rules prior to departure and unfortunately that means a few days for the information to filter though and for the airlines to put the systems in place.

It's not ideal, but neither is anything else.

Back on topic and an interesting development: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/06/18/rumours-swirl-chinas-top-spycatcher-has-defected-us/

Rumours abounded on Friday night that China's top spycatcher had defected to the US, amid a growing focus in Washington on the theory that Covid-19 escaped from a Wuhan laboratory.

Dong Jingwei, vice minister of state security, was reported to have flown from Hong Kong to the US in February with his daughter. There was no confirmation of the rumoured development from either the US or China.
