Interesting take on finishing league from Mayor of Liverpool

He's got a point where I disagree with him is handing over titles when the season isn't finished does that go for Champions league spots and bottom 3 relegated also.

Liverpool would have won the League - End of !

However a lot of the complaints are around the promotion/relegation. If it is cancelled the likes of Norwich( 95% certain to go down) would get another £100 million Prem pay day, with Leeds West Brom(or whoever) being technically £100 million worse off !

yeah i see the point he makes but as poolseasider says what about the rest of the league.

As log as notlob are relegated, I don't give a monkeys about the rest
Which if the leagues are cancelled and results ignored - WON'T Happen, and
I bet you they would claim double jeopardy if the same points were knocked off in the next season(whenever that would be)

Liverpool would have won the league end of not if they lost every game they wouldn't.

You can't decide sport on maybe's if it's a billion/1 chance you have to finish or void it.

I have no doubt that Liverpool would've bottled it and lost every game to hand the title to City.

Yep, and knowing the competitive nature of Klopp and that set of players I would think they would want to win it legitimately, not have it handed to them.

I don't know what the solution is but I'm 100% sure of one thing. You can't cancel the season, award Liverpool the title and at the same time say to everyone else the season is void. It has to be either cancelled for everyone, played out somehow or a final result contrived for everyone based on what has happened so far.

I don't care how many points ahead they are. They haven't won it mathematically and you can't make an award to one team but not any others based on some arbitrary criteria of being so many points clear.

Liverpool are the only team in the Premier league to have trailed in their last 6 matches, losing 4 of them. Maybe it wasn't over. You can't give anyone the title until it's a mathematical certainty. Same with relegation.

I'm sure i'm not the only one who thinks that the simplest way is to cancel whole of next season 2020/21 and ensure that this season is run through to completion. By doing this, nobody loses out. Yes there maybe problems with player contracts etc, but at the end of the day...WE are the important people in all this.

Yep , can't disagree - on that sort of form they would still have comfortably won it 😃

My post was actually about the problems with the bottom of the table(promotion , relegation and THE MONEY) - I only put in the Liverpool comment as an aside

If they congregate anywhere they should be fined or arrested if they don't disperse. Patronising assumption about fans anyway.
Agreed and he's incurred the wrath of the Football Supporters Association too. The France decision will have a big impact on this and I dont think anyone can argue about the three promoted clubs going up,given the situation and the limited options available.

I guess we will never know!
No we won't GJJW. Unless they do the right thing and play out the season when it's safe to do so. I don't actually think there's much of an argument who is going to win the Prem. But the race for top four and the relegation battle are both so tight. As are positions in other leagues as well. It just wouldn't seem fair for someone like Villa for example to be relegated with a game in hand and so many games to go. And likewise teams still in contention for promotion and relegation in other leagues.
I know if it were Blackpool in a promotion position and they ended the season and we were awarded promotion, I'd be ecstatic. I wouldn't give a toss what other fans thought or how we'd done it. But despite that, it still isn't fair.

Whilst the Mayor of Liverpool is generally a numpty, I can understand why he is concerned on this. The incidence of the virus has been higher in Liverpool and that has been linked to the Spanish supporters invasion just before the lockdown
