Is anyone else ill?

Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, MrsDP and I have rarely been out since early December.
As she has had this back muscle complaint for 5 weeks we've been more or less housebound and isolated.
Had to cancel family on Christmas day. They did come round briefly on Boxing day, but no hugging etc.
just went out yesterday a.m. to take youngest G/G/Son his Birthday Card and Present yesterday a.m.
He was 3 on Jan2 and Dad brought him outside.
Fortunately, the isolation might have helped.

I was goosed the other Sunday, presumed down to having 1 1/2 pints at a friends 60th the night before. Ended up staying in bed all day on the Monday, wife was no better. Same as everyone else with the cough etc, ended up back going back to basics and snorting Vic. Cleared some of the rainbow colured sinus congestion after a Chicken Naga (hot) from the Indian Orchard, repeat Naga prescription has helped reduce this further. Cough still present although not as bad as it has been.

My daughter collapsed in Cambridge on Christmas Eve and was fortunately in an ambulance to hospital within half an hour.
She’s still in there and has now caught covid in the ward and is in isolation. Poor girl hated the hospital food which is very poor quality and always comes cold so we were taking her food every day from home. Now she will unfortunately go hungry for a few days.
A & E was a nightmare on Christmas Eve with queues out into the street

That's shit fella, hope she's out soon, all the best.

Have you tried a kebab.
That's another thing...can't bloody taste owt. Had one of my Christmas Innis & Gunn small beer bottles yesterday, just to get something cold onto my throat. They come in at 6.5% abv but all I got was cold fizzy water. Wife had bought some nice crusty bread from which I made a smoked salmon and lettuce sandwich. All I could taste was salt.

There sure is some weird shit going on. All of us were ill leading up to Christmas in our house but we also keep getting 24 hour things.

I worked yesterday and by 3.30 started shivering. Logged off and went to bed. Whole body was shaking and felt like my limbs were made of lead. Woke at 9pm and stayed in bed in pain all over. Slept intermittently throughout the night and got up at 6.30 this morning and feel fresh as a daisy. Absolutely weird.

Sounds like you’re may have Covid.

There’s a bit of everything out there at the mo, covid, flu, bad colds.

This ‘rogue’ virus does seem to cause loss of taste. Fried a piece of lemon sole for my dad yesterday which he said was completely tasteless. He ate it under duress though because he hasn’t eaten for almost a week and I told him he’s going to die if he doesn’t start eating.

He calls me Nurse Ratched 😂

I hope you’re feeling better soon pal, there’s nowt worse than having a constant bad chest . I’ve not been the same since Christmas 2017 when I got Pneumonia and sepsis, followed 12 months later by TB. I recently had the cough you describe where the constant coughing makes you feel like you’ve done a monster abs workout followed by too many heavy deadlifts . I’m considering buying one of those Revitive Airosure devices to help shift the mucus . I’ll let you know how I get on with it if I get one.
The physio where j used to work recommended the ‘flutter’ device for lung clearance …it’s the same concept, so should prove beneficial

I’d recommend peeling and dicing fresh root ginger, popping it in a mug and adding boiling water. Then add a teaspoon of honey.

It’s a pleasant drink in its own right but the ginger has anti inflammatory properties and also boosts the immune system helping to kill off bacteria and viruses.

Certainly works on my cough and cold symptoms anyway.

My dad has no interest in eating either at the moment. He only managed to stop me nagging him when he said he would have porridge for breakfast, dinner and tea. At least that's a wholesome food.

I have Sarcoidosis in my lungs and any infection for me is not good….I’ve not had probs for the last couple of years due to being on the vulnerable list and advised to avoid people/going out….
Anyway really bad chest infection got me on Oct 26th and had 4 lots of Antibiotics and huge Steroids courses and inhalers but my lungs are congested to hell….whilst constant coughing caused me to pull muscles in my back near my lungs….really painful….begged my consultant to allow me to go on my hols for some warmth…he said ok and prescribed me about 1kg of stuff🙂
Only just back and I’m as bad as ever….see consultant again next week……just really tired of it after 2 and half months of it.
Anway other than that feeling tremendous

Commiserations TP99. Some of those descriptions bang a gong for me at the moment.

Had a cough for a couple of weeks now but could feel it getting increasingly worse. Things reached a head when I spent most of New Years night barking my lungs out and knew I had to go Docs when they reopened. Saw him on the 3rd, urgent appointment. Told him about the retching cough which got to the stage were it felt like my lungs and guts would be flying out my mouth any minute. And as you said, the strained muscles in the back when delivering the outpourings of shite. Also mentioned to him the weird noises coming out of the voice box after a mad coughing episode. Sounds like there's a couple of cats down there having it off.

Anyways he had a look and a listen reckons there's a load of rubbish clogging up the chest/lung area. Chest infection is what he wrote. So he scripted out a 5 day course for Amoxicillin and steroid Prednisolone. See how this goes. Two days in no noticeable change. Still going at it like a rabid Rottweiler. I've already rung Appleton to declare my unavailability for the big Cup game.

Best wishes with the consultant mate.

Me and everyone and I know in London have been fine. Maybe we'll all get it when you all come down to Watford !!
Hate to break it to you devils but its rife down here too...

Mrs SATW has had it since mid-December. I had it for a while but have shifted it. One of my work colleagues has had it for a similar amount of time too. Symptoms come and go. I started out with a sore throat and chesty cough. Cleared both and then the sore throat reappeared after 2 or 3 days of nothing. Very odd.

This thread has been therapeutic though. Shows the odd symptoms are normal, if frustrating.

No issues here, thank goodness, but I have introduced a one way system between the front room and kitchen. Toast tastes nicer when eaten in the garden anyway. Facemasks for house guests and I sing happy birthday when washing my scrotum. Small, cost free changes that I assume most other responsible people are also doing.

I've only been doing the scrotum song and not had flu yet so it must be that.

We all feel sorry for ourselves when we feel poorly, but if we look around, there is always someone worse off than ourselves. I heard from a lady I used to work with the other day, she was a great office manager at the company I worked for and is a good friend.

Part of her post went like this:

'Then, at the end of June I contracted Covid, which seemed to be a breeze at first (despite testing positive for 13 days), however with it came some odd symptoms and I realised all was not right when I turned a not-so-attractive shade of yellow. Blood tests showed my liver function was seriously deranged and I was rushed into hospital on 11 July. There I spent the next 10 days undergoing tests and finally a liver biopsy which resulted in a diagnosis of Auto-immune Hepatitis (a rare condition where my immune system thinks there is an infection in my liver and starts attacking it). I was close to liver failure . This condition is lifelong, but is managed by (very nasty) drugs. But I am still here
🙏
and can’t thank the NHS enough.'

Next time I have a bad cold I'll think of this poor woman.

I have been prescribed exactly the same. 2 days in and no difference either. Good luck mate

Can't stop coughing, breathless, temperature etc. Not Covid. And alcohol doesnt get rid of anything. Been a week now and can't get a doctors appointment.
I can empathise with you Allez.
18 days for me now. Felt a slight improvement but then dipped again today.
Head totally bunged up, out of breath after doing the slightest bit of work and constantly tired.

I daren’t ask how you stumbled across that in your daily hour of random googling 🤔
It's double funny, isn't it? I was laughing my tits off when I was ahem recommended it yesterday. Thought it might cheer the poorly troops up. 😅

I contacted my docs surgery and was told in no uncertain terms no antibiotics would be given for this despite having all the symptoms everyone describes .How strange.

This is the same from my GP surgery whenever I have anything at all 🤷‍♀️

Cheers Ballys….todays been a sh*t day…but I remembered I have a Massage gun thingy….so between the painful coughing and muscle tearing my wife jumps in like a F1 pit stop Crew with a minute of massage at full power…she then shouts “ All Clear” and I can cough again.
Repeat until she gets bored😀

It will depend on whether they think you have a bacterial infection. They won't do anything to kill a virus. There is a huge problem with over-prescribing antibiotics.
Add to that the apparent worldwide shortage, presently, of certain prescription and non prescription drugs. Fishermans Friends are like finding legs on a goldfish or rocking horse shite at the moment.

The one thing I always notice when visiting a Country with a large Muslim community such as Malaysia and Singapore where we have family( non Muslim) is that “fisherman’s friends “ are sold all over the place and in different flavours( always thought there only one🙄)
Personaly can’t understand how anyone can find them remotely pleasant but each to their own.
Mind you I swear by Vicks Vaporub but then you don’t suck that😉and have been using it to help keep my airwaves clear as much as possible as this lurgy just seems to last and last.

I’ve not been well since Christmas Eve Eve, improved a little around 28th then went backwards. All in the head congested & coughing and sneezing. But this morning I woke up feeling a bit brighter. Hallelujah is the end in sight. 🤞🤞🤞
