Is Blackpool Council worth a 5.1% council tax hike?

I’ll start with, happy to pay £2grand a year for decent services and roads. Our road looks like the Somme!

More to the point... is this government worth a 5% cut in grants to councils which makes them force up council tax? Because you will get nothing more for the 5% hike, let alone your road mended.

Yep, its not really the council.

They are shocking though, I can't remember the last time I saw a street cleaner in FY4 and the roads are terrible, anyone tried to drive up Common Edge past Stanley Cons recently?

state of roads are shocking. Pretty much see a street cleaner in FY3 every week. Can't fault that aspect.
Generally speaking though, can't think of too much to moan about. Not that a 5% increase in council tax will sort anyway. Parts of Blackpool require many millions spending on it. 5% rise in ct won't scratch the surfaceb

Adult social care and children’s services, large proportion goes to fund these. Disproportionate amount spent on these in Blackpool due to the vast amounts of deprivation in the borough, not helped by the large number of out of towners who flock here due to the low cost (and quality) housing supply.

Problem is that we are obliged to pay for it as the Ombudsman ruled about 20 years ago. If someone turns up at the Borough then they have to be given accommodation and given citizen status, and no-one can do anything about it.

Some councillors (one in particular) loves this because its a potential voter who''l keep him in office.

It's crazy. The MOT laws mean your car has to be in tip top condition in order to drive over roads that basically do nothing but damage.

All councils have been stitched up by central government shortfalls in funding over the last decade or so. Some councils have tried to make up the shortfall by going commercial and trying to make money via lending, property and utilities etc. Warrington Council now has an incredible debt of £1.6 Billion. I had to read that figure twice before believing it. Not sure if Blackpool Council have followed such a commercial path but the shortfall will have to be made up from somewhere.
