Is Joseph the Sugar On The Bitter Pill ?

Best deal for us as Jerry, as you say, was always going. If it's 2.5 million plus Joseph, which it appears to be then we have a player in return worth a million, younger and another player who runs his heart out. We need to spend the money on players too.

Swans fans seem pretty adamant that they don't want to lose Joseph on a permanent. If we get him in return plus £2.5mil, that sounds pretty good to me. I've not seen much of him since his Wigan days but he looked good then.

Good business if it comes off. Bringing in a player with great potential and as mentioned above, it allows us to sort other positions. 👍

I think long term he’ll be worth a good bit, he’s young, has a really great attitude and works his but butt off every game. With the right coaching… 👌🏼
You've got yourself a much better Jordan Thorniley back after a decent season in the Championship.

We have to get some quality strikers in if Critchley wants to play through the 3rds. This a a big step in the right direction and
a perfect opportunity to secure a deal for a player he wanted 2yrs ago..
He has to be one of the best 21yr old strikers outside the Championship .Hope this happens. The next signing will be
just as important.

Is 2.5 plus a player apparently rated at a million enough for a proven championship striker? I wouldn’t say so. There’s needs to be at least another million in add ons or Joseph to turn out to be canny investment to mean we haven’t been fleeced here.

I remember being heart broken when we sold Tony Green to Newcastle - and I still am! - but we got Keith Dyson in return and he was also player. I have often thought that this is the best sort of deal we can do as shedloads of money just mean other teams want shedloads of money for the players we want to buy. Kyle Joseph is an unknown quantity but it is a good career opportunity for him so let us hope Critch can work his magic with him.

Thought that was always the way we wanted to improve as a club buy a player improve then sell for X amount and repeat ,each year /s try to improve, don't know a lot about the player that is linked but if they value him at about a million then he must have something about him, plus hopefully give us a decent amount of cash and possibly get another couple of decent young players with a bit of league experiance

If Jerry goes i wish him well and if Josepharrives he's some pretty big shoes to fill so I'll wait and see how he does.

Generally speaking I get the reasoning behind signing young players, developing and improving them and selling them on for a substantial profit. Its a sound policy. Or is it? My ambition for BFC is to see them playing at the highest level possible and for me that ain't in L1. So sometimes you need to reatain your best players if you keep wanting to make progress. Poor decisions last season cost us our place in the Championship and as such has forced our hand in why we have to let Yates go. In other words relegation has had consequences and we pretty much have to start to build again. Which is the position we were in three seasons ago. So it's vital we get back to the Championship asap and then try to build from there which will mean keeping hold of our best players.

Joseph’s someone I mentioned the day Critchley returned. Always clearly been rated as we wanted him first time around and now he’s got experience and a couple of years working under Russel Martin too. After his season at Oxford there’s very few League 1 clubs that could have brought him in and Swansea would likely have wanted £750k as a minimum. By taking Joseph we’re reducing what we have to give to Rotherham too. It’s a smart deal and whilst I reckon Yates is worth at least £4 million it could well be that there’s a gentleman’s agreement in place to let him go now we’re in League 1. He’s done his bit and we likely held him back the last few seasons when bigger clubs came calling. It gets to a point where you can’t stand in a man’s way and SS seems like an honourable man. If Joseph bags 20+ this season he’ll be worth more than we’re getting for Yates right now anyway.

Agree
Last season was awful with poor decisions, injuries. and loss of form, but it is gone now.
But actually think we are well set for next season and a promotion party

SEEM to remember Josh Bowler being a relative unknown when he arrived. If this player can fulfill his potential like JOSH did then its a win/win. Critch has brought in players for us and most have been pretty decent.

Firstly, has the Joseph deal been substantiated?
Secondly, Jerry worked hard for us, but " heroes" come and go. Were we over-enamoured when he signed, initially?
Best of luck, Jezza. You've earned your extended stint in the Championship
We need another front-man to help get us back there

In all honesty Tim I feel that we kissed goodbye to automatic. New player won’t be better than Jerry - who I firmly believed would get 25 goals this season. So bit pissed - B+ just became a C+

This is a very good deal for us – quality finisher, good positional sense and has great ambition. Only 21 too!

I think we will still get another proven goalscorer.

Need two pairs of strikers that can work together eg. Yorke/Cole & Solskjaer/Sheringham😁

I don’t think this is happening he’s had his medical today and still no announcement I reckon he’s pulled his hamstring

That seems a bit pessimistic to me. We are going to be strong in L1 terms in quite a few positions. Grimmy one of the best in the division. Marv and Pennington. Our full backs can handle the Championship. Norburn Trybull Dougall all Championship capable.

What we need is the same attacking quality. Lavery and Joseph could both go well in L1. I envisage 2 or 3 more attacking players arriving including loans. Joseph is a very good prospect and has 2 seasons experience in L1.

I'm disappointed to see Jerry go, but I do wonder how much of that is to do with his charisma / character, how much is to do with his effort and energy and how much is to do with the 'end product'.

The fact is that as a character and in terms of effort and intensity, I really think that he's almost irreplaceable. He's like a less mentally disturbed and better looking version of Paul Gascoigne when it comes to the relationship with the supporters and in terms of how much he just enjoys playing the game, but I still think the Jury is out on the end product..... At the half way season last year I genuinely thought he'd cracked it, but the goals just seemed to dry up to a certain extent and he never quite fulfilled the potential....

What I can say is that I genuinely wish him well and I hope that he goes on to have all the success in the world as his effort levels, enthusiasm, confidence and technical ability deserve to be rewarded with success in the game. 👍 👍

As for where it leaves us.... Well we lose a great character (of that there can be no doubt) and we also lose someone who showed a great example on the pitch, but I'm sure that we have brought in some new 'characters' who will fill that void.... As for the addition of Joseph? Yep... I would also say that he could go a long way (if not all the way) to filling the goals gap too.

The same guy that broke Yates going to Swansea broke the news about Joseph and now the local Welsh reporter is saying that it's a permanent deal as well. Pretty much as good as it gets till its announced.

I liked the look of him at Wigan and it's two years plus on from that and that's a lot of time in a kid of his ages development.

Outside of the spell at Swindon Jerry didn't have a great record before he came to us.

At "the half way season last year" Mick McCarthy arrived and rhyme and reason and sytem and order all departed the building. Jerry started scoring again as soon as he left. 5 in 6 i think? He's a goal scorer and just needs the right conditions to flourish.

agreed. And Appleton playing him as a left sided player expected to cover for the full back didn't help either with scoring goals. Think some people struggle with what Yates was brought here for. It was to play as a forward and score goals and not to get last ditch tackles in covering for the full back.

I’d have kept JY. I know it’s easy telling a multi millionaire how to run his business, just think he’d have either fired us to promotion or scored enough that he’d have been worth more this time next year. Gutted tbh, although the news of KJ softens the blow.
Re goals drying up last year, that was purely down to that idiot manager we had for a couple of months. JY had zero service and chased absolutely every lost cause.
Agree with BFC x 3 above that a big part of the loss is his character and connection with the fans. Those things matter, and aren’t easily replaced
