James Husband..........asap

I agree Hubby should return but we can't be critical of Thorniley for his lack of inches at CB and replace him with Hubby.
You could play a back 3 of Eky/Thorniley/Hubby but he's best suited at LB so bringing him back would be at Thompson's expense and I would do that.

Husband a big character too. Squad might be wondering what is Appleton thinking without guys like him in the first 11. Speculation only of course but I didn’t raise ‘mental personality’!

I’d agree a back 4 of Gabriel Marv Thornily & Husband who are used to playing together, then Kenny/Connolly & 2 others in midfield, it’s anybodies guess who would work best up front, but with better service it couldn’t be any worse. The slight Proveda lad looked like he had a few tricks on his debut, but was anonymous at Rotherham, mainly because of the set up.

Not at all impressed by Thompson . passing is appalling & allows far too many crosses into the box . I'd play husband ahead of him at LB every time .
I think the interesting thing about Thompson is that he also makes a lot more crosses into the opposition box. Too often last season we would have the ball in wide areas but no-one would deliver the ball in (and instead, it's passed to centre mid, to defender, back to keeper etc). I agree Thompson might not be 100% at the back but his attacking play and work rate are useful.

I do like Thompson , very energetic & likes to get forward but I am a bit old fashioned & think a full backs main priority is to defend & stop his winger. I feel he is trying too hard to impress & just needs to slow down a touch & show more composure.

Definitely need him back, he's mr solid, that's why he goes unnoticed at times, but he still needs his own damn chant!!

Whether at LB to keep Dom on his toes, which you do need, he's been ok but he has made mistakes, like against against Swansea his mistake cost us the game. His passing the other night was atrocious. No one is beyond being dropped. That's why you have competition to drive players on to better.

Equally I'll be happy with him at CB too, Thorniley does very well at times but is exposed by lack of pace and many goals always seem to stem from his mistakes.

Given the performance the other day no one came out with much credit so he has to start.

Hes far more experienced than many too.

Appleton said that Thompson would make the club a lot of money in the future, I don't think Husband would have been reassured with that statement about getting his place back

Don’t think this change will solve our problems. Central midfield urgently needs solving and a complete change of personnel needed. We are absolutely terrible at retaining possession and building any meaningful attacking play.

If I was to bring back Husband, and our best players are always those not in the team after a bad result, then I'd be tempted to play him as a CB, not a LB. His experience would be a useful link with the CM's and the keeper/defence.

I haven't seen a kick from Wednesday and not read v much on here, but I'd play JH in a 3 with JT and MA with Jordy G and Danny T pushing on to give the mid a bit of width. Drop KD or CC.

I've previously thought he's been a bit suspect at Centre Back however, something is not working at the back currently.

We've tried a three and a four and honestly they both look bad for different reasons. The personnel at full back have actually improved from last season, JG back and Thompson in clearly is a step up. William's has basically been swapped for Casey at CB with the other personnel staying the same there. Whilst RW really hasn't been great it doesn't completely explain the defensive drop off a cliff, realistically it's what's happening in front of them.

Under Quitch everything was in front of them, we generally had at least parity in possession if not controlled it which played perfectly into not very fast but thinking defenders Marvin, Thorniely, Husband etc. So for me the play and personnel in the middle of the pitch is killing the defensive line. Now, the midfield is so porous the opposition can range passes and runs in behind our back line seemingly at will through out the game, which is a complete nightmare for Marv, Rhys, Thorneily and Husband if he were to come in ( he does seem to have a decent turn of pace as compared to the others but I don't think that style of play will do his body any favours). I'm not sure a simple swap out of players sorts this.

Realistically the players we have at centre back need the ball controlled in front of them, with any break down happening well in advance of them allowing them to drop deep under no pressure and do what they do best. The midfield is, and has been a mess for a long time, we all know about the impotency it creates up top but with out Quitch's style of ball possession it is now really damaging the defensive players.

We need a sea change at central midfield, ideally we needed an Ellis Simms or similar to be signed this summer just gone to operate as a loan striker and load the midfield with five players. However we have a collective of strikers that are extremely limited at this level of football.

With what we actually have at the club, I think we need a four in midfield Connelly alongside Patino in the centre with Lavery on the left as he's neither use nor ornament as a striker, but his tenacity shone through in the role he played during the Burnley seond half, maybe Poveda on the right, need to see more of him. I'd try Jerry and Theo as a pairing up top and ban long balls to either of them.

The playing staff has not yet caught up to Appleton's style and might take another 12 months to do so, as I've said before this might be an ugly season.
