Jerry Yates leaving?

Few murmurs of Jerry leaving, someone on Twitter claiming Barnsley are in for him - with a new long term contract surely we wouldn’t accept any less than 1m?

If Barnsley have 4 million then sure. But he can't go for less, if he goes for a misery fee you'll see a lot of people unhappy.

I could understand it if it was Blackburn and £3M, but to sell to a club we need to finish above would be madness. Jerry is well loved by the fans, it would be a very odd move if there is any substance to the rumour.

That one post on Twitter is some troll account; always proceed with caution when it comes to random posters like that.

Not heard much on him leaving, but doubt it'd be Barnsley if so. I can't see him going this window either.

On what evidence? Both very similar in style of play, one has scored a few more than Yates now at this level. Wouldn't want to see him leave as alternating the two is preferrable.
On an entire season and a half I'd imagine. One has been given a better run in the side than the other tbh.

Yates and Madine is more efficient and potent than Lavery and Madine for me. But I'd rather have the headache than not.

We should be trying to keep him and playing him more regularly. He's our best overall striker in terms of work rate, technical ability, flexibility of systems and finishing. And selling him to Barnsley would be absurd and if I was the player I'd not want to be going anyway as they're clearly going down (unless 2 other Derby's come out of the woodwork.)

He is a vital part of the "squad" at the moment. All depends on his advisers not getting in his ear and saying someone else might be interested and that he'd get regular 90 mins every week elsewhere . If he wants to go to Barnsley for €4,000,000 then crack on but I doubt there's anything in that. I could see Blackburn putting in a cheeky bid this week though to test him and us, weren't they interested pre-season.

I still thin we should have given Yates and Lavery more airtime instead of Madine…we don’t have to launch the ball every time and I would like to see it to feet with lavery and Yates running the channels.. both work insanely hard and our press would be awesome… I don’t think they are too alike and lavery takes up much better positions in the box than Jerry who cuts inside… I guess the manager sees them in training but that isn’t match conditions and I would like to see them paired together for 4/5 games

Another thing about Jerry is he has largely stayed fit. I'm always concerned about any player that's suffered a hamstring injury, they seem to re-occur.
And there are also the regular Northern Ireland appearances for Lavery. It would have to be an offer of around 3 million for us to seriously consider letting Yates go.

I would be interested to understand more about the source of this rumour. Personally, I think it is inconceivable that he would leave, unless a team well up the pecking order came in for him. That would mean Prem or one of the top six in the Championship. Is that the case or is this just another silly rumour?

I think part of the issue is the lack of height elsewhere. Forces the hand a little as if you take GazMads out we suddenly look pretty small against some teams.

Can't see it happening personally, but I know for a fact the manager doesn't like his antics away from the club, its no coincidence he's been on the bench more recently.

I’m not sure that’s true… Critch has pretty much been alternating Lavery and Jerry, since Lavery has been fit.

On the same/slightly different topic - there's a FB video from the club showing Lavery's goal from a different view. Worth watching if only to see how the players celebrate. Makes for good viewing for me.

true or not, Yates was a certain starter every game last season and based on his number of goals I expect he thought he'd be first choice striker this season. Of course as a club and as a player you expect competition for places but it wouldn't surprise me if he's a bit miffed about having to share the striking role with Lavery when in his mind he feels he was/is the no 1 striker. Especially more recently as the season has progressed.

I noticed Jerry didn't look to happy when leaving the field on Saturday. He was the first down the tunnel I think.

I’d like to hope he’d grasp that we need more than one option to get through a full season in the Championship (as we’ve already seen with Lavery’s injury), but of course he will want to be the main man.

In all fairness I think he had probably re established himself as No-1, but his off field ‘endeavours’ may well have set him back.

If they offer him more ££££'s than he getting at Blackpool then he will want to go. Fans seem to think that players are loyal to their club the same as they are, for some strange reason. Depends if Blackpool FC want to keep him or not and what other clubs offer. It does appear that there is an ongoing issue between Yates and Critchley seeing he is aways on the bench. I guess it's wait and see.

It's not hard to see why Lavery gets precedence over Jerry at the minute. Jerry has a face like a slapped arse quite often, tbh. Looks like he's suffering from being the hero of last season and then struggling to score when this season got underway, and being usurped by Lavery. Lavery is scoring around every 130 minutes, Yates around 200 minutes. He's got nowt to complain about, the club and Critch gave him a nice fat new contract in the summer. He just needs to get in with it and take his chances, which are still plentiful. Lavery just looks far more on it to me. Finally back to full fitness we should see him crack on now, score more goals this season and attract attention. With the right attitude Yates can do the same. Critch will straighten him out, he knows what he's doing.

Hope this rumour is not true. Jerry still has a lot more to offer and will prove that if given the chance. We need a strong squad and need to retain players such as yates and lavery, we have a stronger squad with those options.

I don’t get it, I love Jerry, he’s quick, always chases everything, closes players down, he knows where the goal is and somehow, he draws the eye. Charisma.
I realise this thread is probably bullshit but, there's one thing Jerry needs to improve on & that's winning high balls, Lavery wins more despite his size. I also think Jerry & Gaz worked well last season, but we've seen little of that pairing, some due to injuries. Come on Jerry rise to the challenge.

This could be a wake up call to Jerry Yates, no-one is bigger than the club and sometimes a player needs a kick up the backside to get their head straight. I would doubt we would sell him in this window but a loan to a top League 1 team wouldn't be a surprise. I guess it depends on whether we have someone lined up to replace him.

He's our second highest scorer. We need him.
