Joe Lewis

From memory, wasn't he pants? Things must be bad at OT if they're looking at our rejects!

Manchester United have brought former Blackpool and Peterborough United goalkeeper Joe Lewis in to train with Erik ten Hag’s first-team squad.

Manchester United did not make a single signing during the January transfer window. However, there has been a fresh face around the first-team ranks in the form of veteran goalkeeper Joe Lewis.

From what I remember he was one of our only half decent players that season. He got dropped near the end of the season for Elliot Parish who was pretty useless and the rumour was that if Lewis played any more games we’d owe Cardiff an additional fee. I think he played 34 games in the end so the rumour was that there was a clause if he played 35 league games. Wasn’t there also some ridiculous situation where he ended up wearing the opposition goalkeeper’s top or something like that, because we hadn’t taken one?

🤣 it was such an Oyston thing to do to play a player right up until there was an additional fee to pay then suddenly dropped. Sure this happened on a couple of occasions.

That's disappointing. I though this thread was going to be about the alleged crook who may or may not have a somewhat opaque relationship with Tottenham Hotspur.

Just checked … he was on loan from Cardiff when played for us, and then went on loan to Fulham for 9 games, then played 271 games for Aberdeen from 2016 – 2023.

He was decent 🙂

Jaimie O'Hara,Peter Clarke and Joe Lewis from the top of my head were the only good things to come out of that horrific Oyston inspired nightmare of a season.

O’Hara and Lewis yes. Clarke tried hard but was well pst his best at that point and nowhere near Championship standard

He got a shirt off a fan in the crowd who had a signed shirt he'd previously presented.

It happened more than once. Think we had to stop playing a couple of youth players, maybe Waddington for one, because it would have triggered an improved contract.

Another stopped playing because it would have triggered a contract extension.

I think other clubs have done it too, to be fair.

Incredible that the vermin knew when contracts were about to be auto extended and SS didn't, costing money.

Not sure SS had the right team in place at that time.

Who was the player that was going to get an end-of-season bonus or renewed contract based on his total playing time that season?

Towards the end of the season he suddenly found himself on the subs bench because Koko thought he was getting close to triggering the reward and Koko insisted he did not play.

So at season end, he challenged Koko’s refusal and said he had already passed his contract’s target minutes total.

Koko, the total dummkopf, had forgotten to include injury time past the usual 90 minutes in every game for his calculation. I recall the player won his contractual appeal to the EFL or players’ union and got his reward. Was that Andrea Orlandi?

It was Andrea Orlandi, but the circumstances were slightly different - he wanted to leave but the club wanted to extend his contract for another season.

“Terms in the 30-year-old's contract stated he could leave if Blackpool were relegated and he had also played 23 full games or 2070 minutes.

Former boss Lee Clark kept Orlandi on the bench for their game at the Cardiff City Stadium and dropped him altogether for the final game against Huddersfield. They were under the impression he was just under the 2070-minute mark.

However, they were only accounting for 90 minute matches and forgot to include added time and it turns out the midfielder had exceeded the limit.”

That was quite amusing at the time.

Quick reminder of some of the other players we had that season:
Charles Dunne, Tony McMahon, Tomasz Cywka, David Ferguson, Nyron Nosworthy, Edu and Joan Oriol, Nile Ranger, Jeffrey Rentmeister, Saer Sene and David Perkins!!
Just remember those names when you're moaning on Saturday!!
