Johnson resigns

Zahawi has lost all credibility for me, accepts the job of chancellor on Tuesday night, does the breakfast media round on Wednesday morning saying Boris is honourable and has integrity, the same night he’s saying the prime minister should resign.

"Boris Johnson will resign as Conservative leader today - he will continue as Prime Minister until the autumn.

A Conservative leadership race will take place this summer and a new Prime Minister will be in place in time for the Tory party conference in October."

BBC Quote

History will judge him in a terrible light. The worst PM this country has had by a country mile, governed by soundbites, popularism and bullshit. Zero ideas and used covid vaccines and ukraine to garner support for himself. Despicable human used brexit to get the job despite not believing in it, wanker.

And today he writes to the PM explaining why he should go🤷‍♂️

I think you might be on the money there.
Crisis management in the short term, resignations stop for now
Government continues and then something big happens in Ukraine. Wouldn't surprise me if Johnson tries to engineer something, he is that narcissistic.
Johnson then tries to convince people that it is wrong to change PM during a crisis.
Conservative Party need to get him out of the building asap.

Are we going for 10am so these news readers can put their minds at rest outside No10?
Only I’am waiting to take the Dog out. 😟

PM until Autumn? He just doesn't get it. Nobody wants to be in his cabinet right now and an interim cabinet for the next 3 months or so will have to cope with the current issues he isn't dealing with at the moment plus whatever new crises crop up. He needs to go completely and let an interim run the show until they elect a new leader.

Raab presumably would be the interim?

Summer recess coming up in a couple of weeks until September let him carry on and have a few summer holidays to Ukraine.

The icing on the cake will be Mrs Johnson will no longer have her say on government policy... the clash between her and Cummings has led to the downfall of BJ... I certainly won’t shed a tear but their marriage my also be a casualty. Sometimes in life you do get what you deserve.
If this finally rids the Tory party of its long outdated Etonian influences... we all benefit ...similar to far left in the Labour Party... however, I’m not holding my breath on either.

The timing of all this is a serious issue. The security of the country is at stake here. For what it's worth, my view is that Raab should become the interim PM with immediate effect and all of the Ministers and PPSs who resigned over the last 48 hours, and who's posts have not been backfilled, should go straight back to those posts and get on with the job of government.

Agree, we’re in unprecedented times and we need a functioning government.

As my MP I’ve been following keeping a close eye on his comments over his time as Defence Minister... he’s certainly kept counsel over the recent indiscretions by BJ.
Yes. And I thought his reasons for not resigning were credible and will go some way to protecting his “brand” from being tarnished by association with BJ

ie his duty is to the office and the country and he has an important job to fulfil at a critical time: plus there’s a mechanism for replacing the leader so that’s what should be used.

I suspect the last two will probably be Penny Mordaunt and Rishi Sunak but think Wallace will still be ahead of the other likely contenders - Truss, Hunt, Javid etc.

Apparently Ben Wallace is clear favourite amongst Tory party members. I like him, he just needs to smile sometimes, but he does appear to be a serious poli and very credible imo.
I certainly hope so, I've always regarded him as one of the very few MPs, across all parties, with any honour & integrity

Candidates so far;

Wallace: good communicator, safe pair of hands, probably favourite at this stage
Javid : no chance but will run
Sunak : probably out of the running after Johnson nobbled him. He did get his own back in rather spectacular style though.
Braverman : no chance, has declared as running
Hunt : too one nation for the current parliamentary party, will run though
Raab : no chance
Mordant : could end up in the final one or two, again sensible
Baker : no chance but has declared that he is running
Tugendhat : too left wing for the current MPs

Johnson resigns…so which completely out of touch rich boy or girl self serving useless ** is gonna replace him?? Serious question , I mean labour after years of corbyn are absolutely useless without much credibility as well….🤣

Wallace is a tough character, who doesn't accept any sh*t when being interviewed by the biased BBC. His seat is in the north, so he 'should' care more about what happens up here.
Liz Truss a possibility?

Forgot about Truss, intentional Thatcher clone who likes a photo opportunity. Doesn't come across as very bright and was a remainer. Hopefully not.

I'll go with that pal, as we don't want a remoaner in charge - that would potentially distract us from getting the country sorted out.
Bojo is reportedly going to be saying that he'll stay until autumn or until another leader is selected ..... he has the skin of an Eaton rhino that guy 🦏.
That would be akin to all our players asking for a transfer unless their useless manager leaves, and the manager saying he'ls resigned, but will stay in charge for a few months until a new manager is selected 🤣

He also needs to learn how to reply to my emails!

He will try to stay on if they agree to his idea.

Think there needs to be a general election, the benny hill shit show that is the conservative party will appoint another like minded generally useless PM who will have about a 35-40% positive approval from Tories with another 30% or so being ambivalent towards or a best worst candidate.

Like May and Johnson after the first and second round of critical assesments from the Tory party, and the media they will call a snap election in order to cement their position which they will probably win but they wont get much beyond halfway through their first term. Rinse and repeat.

The Parliamentary Tories know that if they choose a Remain leader it will probably hand the next election to Labour. The party would split - perhaps, irrevocably - and the red wall voters would return to their roots.

Did anyone see that utter moron Suella Braverman on Peston last night. Toe curling shite, she threw her hat in the ring for the leadership contest and went on a weird speech about lowering tax, stopping boats crossing the Channel and leading the fight against wokeism (that was it). British politics taken down to the lowest common dominator, ruled by thick people for thick people.
