A 435 mile round trip today, what a waste of time and money. Frustrated, that ain't the half of it. I can't believe he set up again with the formation that has yielded no success since the start of the season, especially after we had two wins on the bounce playing 442 and then 343 in the cup - does he never learn? obviously not!
And why oh why he keeps using a failing system with a right footed defender on the left who has to continually check back wards to get the ball on his right foot I'll never know.

The game could have been there for the taking today, the pitch was flat as a pancake and the conditions were ideal for attacking football. A fair turn out of Pool fans considering the ground's surroundings offer nothing for the away fans to get excited about. But within 10 minutes you could clearly see it was going to be one of those performances and the travelling Pool fans were kept very quite thereafter, not by the lump it forward football by Wycombe, but by the starch, predictable, negative, ineffective tactics of our Manager. You can clearly see the players are uncomfortable with his approach, they don't believe in it - as well as the fans, and they must be groaning inside with the turgid tactics he must keep spouting to them in the dressing room.

It's in the past now, but BFC gave up the chance to give the raw Dobbie his first Managerial role with his attacking team line-ups and his attacking mindset. Instead, we've opted for the defensively stubbornly minded manager that is draining the energy from the team, as well as the dedicated Pool fans who travel far and wide to watch them and probably gave up a fair few quid to go and watch that garbage served up today.

You and supporters like you deserve much much better. You have my full admiration.👏👏👏

It's a terrible style of football, Connolly and Hamilton are subs all day long. Hamilton is effective if we take the lead and the opposition has to try and attack us. He's not good if we go behind and the opposition actually do some defending, something that Wigan neglected to do in the last home game.
Unless we have an injury crisis Connolly should not start.
Bizarrely Critchley has come up with a game plan where these two are nailed on starters!!
Either change it or fuck off, it's anti football that is hard to get on board with.
I'm a Blackpool fan, I've seen us lose loads of games it happens regularly, but I want to see us trying to win not waiting for the opposition to make a mistake, more often than not we are the ones switching off then it's game over!!

Copy of post in main Wycombe match section.
Not long back (to London ). It was terrible. I thought with the Wigan and Barrow games we might have been getting it together, but not at all.
First half and beginning second half was particularly bad. The structure of the side is all wrong.Unable to play through the midfield or use the wings to create openings. Connolly does not offer anything much as a left wing back or whatever he is doing. If he gets it he will often just come back on his right and cross it. All too slow. Morgan had a lot of ball but just isnt good enough ( Charlton fans said hes mediocre). Pennington isnt comfortable taking the ball upfield. Beesley isnt good enough.
Subs after 57 minutes so even Critchley realised he had to take action. Dembele showed ability but where will we play him ? Carey looked better than Morgan and Weir ( anonymous) when he came on. Hamilton did nothing through the 90 minutes but somehow stayed on until the end.
Worrying, dont know where we go from here.
Quote with the above.

Did Lincoln the other week and that was enough for me for away games. Blackpool fans looked in good spirits today and by 20 minutes onwards everyone looked sat down, dejected and nothing could be heard from the away end.
Exactly like that. I did both 😖

Bought for Charlton yesterday. At least the booze cruise will ease the pain.
I’ve got a spot on that Halifax and I feel like I cannot be fucked at all after watching it today. If it wasn’t for being able to spend the day with mates and other like minded Pool fans I wouldn’t bother.

The life and soul has been sucked out of this club by the owner I'm afraid. He is the one who hires these terrible managers and I can't see him changing. He has had the chance to employ Evo, Edwards and Dobbie and hasn't even given them a second thought, the bloke is a liability.

You have to ask the question is he making these managerial appointments on his own?

Because as a former Warbreck school pupil myself I would have thought Sadler had a good bit more about him than making such shocking decisions.

He's a high powered businessman now though Shed, he is clearly very very good at what he does and I guess he is in quite a sterile environment where analytics are crucial. Unfortunately Football is completely different and if you have become dependent on a way of doing things to be successful which rules out any emotion or heart then that just won't work in football.

Because City, Liverpool etc are all run by emotion and heart? Bill Kenwright is an Evertonian to his core, it hasn't done them much good, has it? Perhaps it's the emotional involvement that's the problem?

Quality but depressing post. There is just nothing to watch or enjoy in this hapless style of play. My plans to tune in on arriving back from a holiday in Whitby today were curtailed by finding water pouring through our kitchen ceiling from a ruptured bog valve. I still reckon I had a better afternoon than those who travelled to see that shite 😬

I admire your sacrifice you wouldn’t get me travelling that far even if we played like City. Good on you 👍

I thought with the Wigan and Barrow games we might have been getting it together, but not at all.
I think getting pegged back against Wigan and going for it showed character, but I think Barrow proved nothing as they were the better team for much of the second half. It was also the Pizza Cup and much changed sides.

Critchley is a poor manager, it didn't take long for QPR to realise this and to get rid before it was too late. Sadler has been had over AGAIN by this man, he got lucky 1st time around but now he has been found out and it is the fan base that are suffering boring, mundane excuse for football. He's got to go

Excellent o/p which sums up perfectly the frustrations of the fans at the moment.....

Why on earth does NC persist with these ridiculous team selections, formation and tactics, especially after seemingly 'seeing the light' against Wigan.

...analytics....not so sure... if you do an analysis on NC and his last 25-30 league games as a manager ... not good...
For me, CJ and CC are really getting some unjustified stick on here... not their fault imo...being asked to play roles not suited to... might as well play Grimshaw as a fcuking striker!

Unfortunately for them Hamilton and Connolly are the two thst highlight the craziness of Critchleys formation and team selection.
If you play 3 5 2 the two wing backs have a massive part to play, so it usually helps if the players asked to do this role are wingbacks!
The two of them are OK league 1 players in certain situations and in their best positions, neither of them are nailed on starters at wing back.

You need to email or post that to Sadler. Great post.

Very sad I feel sorry for you making such time and effort to be offered that. I never felt confident before the game I sat with the mrs in the pub prior to kick off I didn’t get back home till 20 mins into the game I watched till half time and Wycombe could of had another 2 goals by then. Reluctantly started to watch the second half and quickly realised nothing had changed I’d switched it off by 60 minutes I felt aggrieved coming back home to watch it let alone travelling all that way. Like an above poster said the life is being sucked out of the club I can only see it getting worse we are slowly sinking back down to league two.

don't think it was identical at all. Yesterday was a clear 3-5-2 with our favourite player CJ as a right wing back who allowed his man to stroll past him and tap in for the second goal. Against Wigan it was much more of a 4-4-2 and CJ played much further up the pitch with nowhere near as much responsibility for defensive duties. Against Wigan his sarting position was so much further forward and why he was a greater threat. Critchley might try and tell and fool us that it was the same system but you could see clearly it wasn't.

It's a system that can be tweaked with one small turn of the dial from 3 5 2 to 4 4 2, Wigan we saw more of the 4 4 2 because they didn't defend their left back area effectively.
Wycombe didn't make the same mistake so they nullified Hamilton and Connolly just doesn't have the skills to make anything happen on the other flank.
The whole set up is bizarre when you consider that Hamilton can't defend and Connolly can't attack!
I said after last Saturday that Hamilton shouldn't be a nailed on starter and was derided for it but yesterday's performance confirmed the point I was trying to make. He's sometimes good if a team comes at you and he has space to run into but if they defend properly he is offering nothing in attack we all know he can't defend.
Don't know how Critchley can't see it.

yes, I agree with much of that. Against Wigan you could visibly see our back line of four which didn't include Hamilton because Pennington pushed over to full back when we weren't in possession. This allowed Hamilton to remain much further up the pitch and why he caused them so many problems and had a great game. Yesterday, it was never anything other than a back three with Hamilton as a wing back and when he got the ball he was so much deeper than against Wigan and why he not only was dreadful for his marking and his unawareness for their second goal but was ineffective going forward and posed lttle or no threat til the last few minutes.

At the moment I'm finding it hard to still be backing Critchley because he seems so reluctant to play to players strengths. It would be acceptable if we were getting results but we are not and performances on the whole have been dreadful.

Never mind away games, I've been going since 1965, season ticket holder for many of them and I'm rapidly starting to lose interest home or away. The last few manager appointments have turned out as disasters. Simon Sadler, he doesn't know the style of football we're after !
I wish I'd stuck to my guns, no season ticket and picked my games.

I think Critchley is too proud/stubborn to eat humble pie and change it…he only changed it last time he was here due to injuries and by luck stumbled across a winning team……

If you are right there is a good chance he will be gone before the end of this year. If he wants to play 3 5 2 that's fine but pick your wing backs from Lyons, Husband, Thompson and Gabriel.
He also needs an alternative system that can get more out of Dembele, Hamilton and Dale If 3 5 2 isn't working.
He also has to stop this thing where he always finds a place in the team for Connolly it's weird, reminds me of Windsor Davies in It Ain't Half Hot Mum with Gunner Parkin!!

...analytics....not so sure... if you do an analysis on NC and his last 25-30 league games as a manager ... not good...
For me, CJ and CC are really getting some unjustified stick on here... not their fault imo...being asked to play roles not suited to... might as well play Grimshaw as a fcuking striker!
There are both positives and negatives in both these two players for me. CJ is a great attacking forward high up the pitch with the ball played into space to run onto whilst CC is good L1 right back / emergency right side of a back 3.

Alas, Critch keeps playing them to their weaknesses and it's there in plain sight and it doesn't take much for apposing managers to coach their teams into chocking them both out of the game in these positions I'm afraid 😔

don't think it was identical at all.
CJ was in the same position as Wigan yesterday. But he stood still on the sideline because the full back gave him zero space and CJ isn’t intelligent enough to do anything else.

You can say it as much as you want. Same players. Same system. Same wonky generally ineffective formation. Very very little difference between the two. Opposition the only difference.

next saturday will be interesting. If Dembele doesn't stat based on his cameo appearance yesterday then it really will make you question his judgement.

of course it has to do with the opposition and how he's marked but I sat right opposite a back four throughout that first half against Wigan and that didn't include CJ who was thirty yards further forward. But whatever CJ was shiite yesterday and all those who were giving posters stick about him after the Wigan game seem to have now gone missing.

I’ve got a spot on that Halifax and I feel like I cannot be fucked at all after watching it today. If it wasn’t for being able to spend the day with mates and other like minded Pool fans I wouldn’t bother.
Me too. Might be better stepping off the cruise and going straight to the pub !

It wasn’t a traditional back four.

I think the core point here is the entire formation is extremely unbalanced with players playing in awkward positions without a pattern of play going forward.

I’d genuinely fire him if we rock up at home next weekend and we play the same shit we did yesterday.

League 2 is a horrifying prospect after the journey we've been on - I dread to think of it. However, I do believe Enzo that there's enough in this squad to keep us further up the table and no where near the drop zone come the end of the season. It's all about game management right from KO to the final whistle whereby changes are made accordingly as the game unfolds. Unfortunately at the moment we're not seeing anything like that happening by Critch. So yes, any talk on here about the risk of dropping into L2 will be snuffed out quickly, but we've become a fearful lot and if we lose the next game the negatively will only increase. Let's hope he goes into Saturday a changed man and we bounce back!!

I said after watching it that it's the closest that I've seen certain players "downing tools"...they clearly don't enjoy the system and I think it'll be up to a few of the senior pro's/shop steward types to spell this out to NC otherwise we're in for a long painful season.
