Keeper as a Captain?

What do we think? Everyone happy for Maxwell to stay the Captain - especially with a couple of young whipper snappers trying to get those gloves. Personally I always like a Midfield General/Captain and think Stewart would be excellent at that job. Didn't we once used to have a club captain and a team captain?

Maxwell was probably given the job because at the start of the season he was the only player guaranteed a start.
It's hard to judge how his captaincy affected things on the pitch but he's easily been the best spokesperson off it. He would be an ideal club captain with someone like Stewart maybe as team captain.
Whatever Critch decides will do for me though.

I had reservations about not having a outfield player as captain, but Maxwell has done well and, by all accounts, has been a major positive influence in the changing rooms and off the pitch as well as on it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I also believe in having leaders and collective responsibilties all over the pitch. We certainly had that last season.
The other thing we have had in the past is both a captain on the pitch and a club captain off it. Don't know whether we do that now or whether it would beca good idea to spread the workload?

Maxwell is well respected in the dressing room

Serious experienced professional

Unless Sir Critch disagrees he must remain captain

No concerns for me, especially as I see this team as being so well drilled and of the "right stuff", so no need for a midfielder intervening when they lose their cool. Max seems to deal with refs well (aside from the Oxford home tie!)

No issues whatsoever, people shouldn't need an armbamd to lead or encourage the team. With the likes of Husband, Stewart and Dougall, I'm sure we have plenty of leaders on the pitch.

I see no reason to change it, Chris Maxwell is an ideal role model and certainly has stepped up his game, sometimes a captain can lose his focus but he has been excellent 🧡🧡🧡👏👏👏UTMP

I would of preferred a midfielder to be captain as he can communicate instructions at equal distance to the defence and offence. Maxie has proved himself Captain Fantastic in that role, though.

The whole captain thing I've always found bizarre. You don't need a patch on your arm to inspire others, just as you don't need to be playing outfield either. Maxwell seems to have the respect of the managers and players so he is the right choice.

Agreed. Who is captain in football is hugely overvalued by fans. You need plenty of leaders and organisers in a team. It barely matters at all, other than to say when David Ferguson is given the armband your team isn't in the best shape it could be.

I wasn’t overly happy initially when we were struggling more outfield in the earlier parts of the season.
I stand corrected though, it worked for us on many levels.
Yep, it wasn't for me either but clearly it works.

I would prefer Maxwell as the Club captain. For me, the on-field captain needs to be among the action, where he can talk to players: encourage, cajole and link more actively with the referee and with Citchley. Also, with the Club captain being a goalie there would be much less chance of the two cutting across each other in their dealings on the pitch.

I have never been a fan of goalkeepers as captain I always preferred an outfielder who could nip across and speak to players. However having watched on I follow, with zero fans in the ground we can hear the players on the pitch and Maxwell has been one of the loudest, shouting instructions and dishing out bollockings when needed. So I say keep him as captain until someone better comes along or he loses his place.
