Keeping Yates is truly a must

As has already been noted on this board, every effort should be made to keep Jerry at the club! Whatever other incomings may be required to rebuild, scoring lots of goals is the only way to secure promotion. As well as Jerry, I also think a fully fit Shane L could be a handful in League 1. All that said, we’d still need a couple of big lads upfront to supplement the strike force. Whether young Holmes is ready for the step up, only Dobs and Blinks would likely know.

I'm not sure I agree. If we can get a tidy sum for Yates then I'd take it and add it to the money being used for a rebuild. Don't get me wrong I'd prefer we kept him but not at any cost. His wage will be high and I just think a few million if we got that would serve us better throughout the team as long as its reinvested in the squad.

Love Jerry and his fantastic work ethic . Doesn’t score enough but then we don’t use him properly. Would be happy for him to stay but if he wants to move on and we can secure a good few it’s good business. Assuming the money is reinvested in the squad of course.

I’d be gutted to see Jerry leave, but from his perspective he’ll be 27 this year & at this stage of his career I’m not sure he’ll fancy a minimum of another year in L1.

I could see him fitting in at quite a few clubs, depending on their status at the end of the season. Blackburn, if they miss out, or Bolton, if they come up. Local move to either, Championship football & undoubtedly a fatter wage packet in the peak years of his career. Not saying he’s Prem level, but if relegated, even Forest or Leeds could maybe see him doing a job for them next season.

From his point of view, what’s not to like?

Would love him to stay with us, i think he likes it here, knows he is appreciated by the fans but as mentioned above, if Blackburn/Bolton/Stoke/PNE etc come calling and it's championship status next year then it'll be hard for him to turn down. Think he lives in Knutsford doesn't he?

My concern with selling Jerry would be: Will the money be spent on recruiting quality players, or will it be absorbed paying ongoing running costs? That's what happened with the money for Critchley, Josh & Richard. Next season, our income will drop significantly with relegation & SS hasn't recruited further investors to the board.
I hope Jerry stays with us, but I think he'll want to play in the Championship & if he chooses to move on, good luck to him. He's given his best every time he's pulled our shirt on & he deserves much better.

I’m just worried about the quality of the rebuild we will get 😞 If the tidy sum isn’t spent wisely then Jerry going is a lose lose.

Keeping Yates would mean the rebuild will be nowhere near as big a task, you've got a guaranteed goal scorer - we're talking 20+ goals in League One. I also think Lavery would do well in League One.

I sadly think he'll be off if we go down, topping up his goal tally towards the end of the season will have certainly sparked some interest in him again from Championship clubs.

Agreed.
Yes he lives in Knutsford & that means he can easily commute to several Championship clubs nearby.
If he chooses to leave, I'm sure he'll do so with everyone's blessing & best wishes for a successful future.

Jerry, Shane, Holmes plus a younger more mobile replacement for Madine would a very decent strike force in L1. Assuming we create chances for them

Yates, Lavery, Beesley, Holmes plus another good targetman will be easily good enough for league 1. I'd say it is vital we hold on to Jerry, his record in our promotion season was very good and I'd like to think we'll create a heap more chances for him next season.

I get some of the points made in regards to him leaving and I am sure there will be interest from Championship clubs.

If I was the board, I would sell him the dream, boost his wages and make it known we are building a team around him to get promoted back to the Championship. That he is loved here and he won't get that anywhere else. He has the capability to score 20 plus goals in league one with us.

He is under contract until 2024 with the option of another year.

He is the one player I would move heaven and earth to keep a hold of.

Holmes IS the younger, mobile replacement for Madine.
He's not scared to get a shot off and won a good few headers last night dominated by giants.

I wouldn't blame Jerry if he did leave.
"He hasn't scored many this season"
That's because the service has been dogshit.
IF he puts in a transfer request there'll be plenty of takers in the Championship and watch him fly with a good supplier

He's scored 14 goals in a very poor side this season in the Championship, what he needs is someone decent to play alongside him and take a bit of the weight, I'm sure he'd score enough in League 1, we should move heaven and earth to keep him.

Jerry is tangerine through and through and I’d hate him to go, but of course if we’re in division one which is a probability, he will probably want to go and there will be bids for him. I just hope the board try to keep him, if not make sure we get the right money.

I think Jerry will give us a year before kicking up any sort of fuss.
Considering the season we've had as a team for Yates to be the 8= top scorer is amazing.
27 in November - will he want to play League One football at his prime? I'd be surprised and wouldn't blame him.
Someone else the board has let down.

we aren’t keeping Yates. He will get a championship club deal for sure. We have a busy summer.

I think Jerry has a tangerine heart - like Brett did.

Whilst I’d hate him to go, I’d fully understand the need to further his career at this point - like Brett did.

Equally, whatever happens, I don’t think we’ve seen the last of Jerry in a tangerine shirt. He’ll come home, deservedly, as a legend - like Brett did.

Hopefully the story departs at this point - seeing Jerry in a PNE shirt would break my heart - like Brett did.

BUT - once a Seasider, always a Seasider.

I’m sure in his heart, Jerry knows that - like Brett did.

Two of a kind, giving 100% for the shirt every game, win or lose.

Say what you will about how poor this board have been this season, but one thing they have emphatically got right since Sadler took over is their ability to tie our most valuable assets down to long term contracts.

The good thing for us is that he's contracted to us for another 3 years, the only issue is that he potentially has a relegation release clause that could very well be activated.

We have to hope that 1) He doesn't have a release 2) If he does it is significant

Keeping him would be fantastic, but if we were able to get 4/5 million for him that could easily fund our entire rebuild and then some next Summer.

IMO we're in a win/win situation here (that is unless he has a dirt cheap release clause which I find unlikely).

Yeah, it's definitely absolutely key if we want to get promoted. He's easily a 20 goal a season striker in league one and with his added experience and age could easily be 25-30.

In league one if you have a striker who scores 20+ goals with even an average team around them you've got a very good chance of at least play offs.

I can't see it though because he's scored 16 goals, I think and many championship clubs will be thinking if he can score 16 goals for little Blackpool what can he do with a decent team around him?.

And if you're Jerry you're gonna see this as your level now and if he kicks on and does manage 20+ for someone like Sunderland (who have been interested in him for years) he could get a move to the prem.

No chance I'm afraid, we'll take the 3-5 million and won't begrudge him his move, which is only right after the commitment, desire, personality and joy he's given us.

If we get a few million for him as much as it would break
My heart is let him move on and use the money in a re build of the team.

I love Jerry Yates, and for that reason I want him to go. He’s battled for us, never given up, and didn’t drop when there was interest in him. Let him get a decent pay day and move on. Let’s be honest, it won’t be the last we’ll see of him as he’ll probably be re-signed when he’s 33 and recovering from an acl injury.

you make a very good point but I love BFC more so want him to stay.

We have to show ambition though - we have to say to League One we have the players to take us straight back up. We got rid of our best players last season and look what happened. Bump up his wages but let’s keep him.
