Keogh the Crab

Anyone else noticed how everything seems to go sideways with Keogh - is that just because of who he has around him or is he worried about losing possession either pushing forward himself or playing a poor ball?

Jesus, the guys been absolutely annihilated for his poor defensive performances so far this season, yesterday he had a really good game and now it's the direction of his passing that people aren't happy with. Give the guy a break ffs.
I reckon he'll become one of the fan favourites by the end of the season, he had a great game yesterday. Can't say I have taken too much notice of him up to yesterday so I made a point of watching him. And bowler kept popping up in defence too, he broke up some serious looking threats.

I would imagine calling someone a crab isn’t too complimentary, it beats me how season after season there always has to be one player that’s singled out. some of the crap that was spouted about Keogh after the first two home games was just unbelievable!! i think someone even said he was the worst player they’d seen in a Blackpool shirt for years 🤣🤣

What an absolutely garbage opening post. The guy was hung drawn and quartered for running out with ball and giving it away a couple of games ago, now this poster isn't happy with sideways passes! Keogh defended brilliantly for Ireland many times against massive Eastern European units, that's why he played well yesterday because that's what he was up against, a 25 goal a season Serb. He wont play every game because it wont always suit him, yesterday it did, and every credit to him. Edit to add, I've just finished watching the re-run of yesterdays game, he threw himself a a Mitrovic shot in the last minute of added time, that could well have gone in and we wouldn't be were we are this afternoon .

Keogh clearly lacks pace and can leave himself exposed to this as he likes to step up and leaves space in behind him.
My thoughts are that the original post is naive with the sideways passing comments, I think he carries the ball out better than all our other centre halves and rarely resorts to a lump up the pitch, the tactic of passing along the backline is simple, pull the opposition on to you and it will leave space for Yates, Bowler, TJJ and Keshi to work in futher up the pitch, if we simply played it forward at every opportunity it would compress the game and benefit the defending side.
Yesterday he played on the left and i am hoping Gretterson will make that position his own when he is back fully fit.
I think Keogh will play most of his football covering for the first choice centre backs.
What we shouldn't underestimate is his role in leading the team, he is very vocal and in every break in play he was training and critiquing his teammates, he is clearly a leader on the pitch and in the dressing room, he will be a very important part of the squad this season.

One thing he does is look to keep the ball moving. It’s just normally the free man and simple pass for him is sideways, it’s better to keep the ball instead of trying a ball over the top giving away possession and being on the back foot again. Guess that’s his experience. I’d like to think if we are playing a team with a pacey striker we would adjust our cb pairing but He is forming a good partnership with Ekpiteta

As I said on another thread, I have been critical of Keogh in previous games which at best have been poor. However yesterday I thought he and Ekpiteta were both tremendous at the back . Very little got past either of them, if he keeps that level of performance he will be very hard to drop. Well done.👏👏👏

I'm not a fan of him but you have to call it how he was yesterday and he had a good game.

You don’t get to play at the level he has throughout his career by being crap

He is a leader on the pitch and works his socks off

That’s what we like to see at BFC . Hard working lads playing their heart out for the shirt

Is he a spring chicken - no

Is he a valuable member of the squad - yes

Superbly put sir.👍

Towards the end of the match when Maxwell has the argument with Mitrović

Watch the block 30 seconds before by Keogh and watch his reaction and how

much it meant to him, that is a player fully committed to the cause
He's the one who is giving it to the crowd after the goal as well. I was *possibly uncharitable* to him after cov, but like you say, he gives a shit and that is all I ask from a player really.

You have to worry what people could find wrong if Lionel Messi played for us and scored 5 in a game....

Agree to an extent with OP however when he did mess around it nearly cost us. So I'm happy with him doing this... let others do the forward bit.

Interesting to hear others say how much he is up for it... ultimately this is his last chance in championship and he is grateful for the opportunity and loving it

Some of the stuff especially on twitter has been disgraceful... don't get me wrong I'm not huge fan but let's get behind him 100%

I assume you’ve been to all 3 away games too?
Not having a go at you but there’s been so much negativity re Keogh, and IMO he’s been bloody awesome especially away from home!!
He’s a warrior and his experience and bravery will definitely assist our younger upcoming defenders 🤞🤞🤞

yes I do agree that he’s not going to first choice regularly as the season goes on, unless the younger guys can improve on his passion, leadership and bravery?

utmp

stop slagging certain players, Critchley knows best , but IMO we’re a bloody decent team

Nope... no away game yet but watched all on TV bar Millwall.

But I agree with ya.. yes always go sideways but that ain't a bad thing.

As I said the negatively and name calling has been a disgrace.

That defence is coming together. We built everything we achieved last season on good defensive organisation and I don't see this season being any different in that respect. What's really encouraging is we have high quality options for when the inevitable injuries, supsensions and rotations kick in.

If the midfield don’t want the ball or go hiding it makes the defenders look stupid. Which happened most of the time last season.

Anyone slagging Keogh off on Twitter or anywhere else can’t be a pool fan .

You can see what it means to him when we score .

You can see how hard he works . Critch picks him for a reason and it’s because he brings something to the team

Giving him pelters when he clearly fights for your club just isn’t right IMO

That was Keoghs best match in a tangerine shirt by far and I’ll forgive him for that almost costly slip because of his all round solid defensive performance. The back 4 played NCs philosophy of playing out from the back superbly yesterday for the first time all season where previously it’s been a tad dangerous and worrying to say the least. Ray Wilkins the master of playing like a crab and he had a very successful club and country career!

Maybe because he isn't Beckenbauer, Ferdinand or even Harry Maguire! I'd be more annoyed if he thought he was that type of player and kept trying to play defence splitting passes and giving the ball away!

Agree. He has turned it around well, like a good pro

From the games I’ve seen up until yesterday I wasn’t a fan of Keogh. But yesterday he was superb all afternoon. Credit where credit is due and he certainly deserves to start the next match

I’d be starting with the same team maybe lavery in for TJJ although I thought he did well yesterday especially the first half.

Got to say I was slightly concerned when we signed him , you never really know what you’re gonna get with a player approaching the end of his playing days , but now he has settled in he is making a valuable contribution. I have no doubts about his commitment . He could turn out to be one of our best bits of business considering the injuries we have had at CB in recent times. We do look pretty solid now in that department , in fact all over the pitch !
I am feeling we could exceed expectations this season.🤞

Imagine any player hearing the crowd chanting their name, it must be a massive lift even for an experienced pro. FFS we all want all our players to perform well and hopefully there won't be any negativeness at Bloomfield Road. We are on the UP..!!

Perplexed how Grettarson isn’t starting ahead of him but tbf, bar one slip that nearly led to a goal, he had a good game on Saturday

Keogh has been solid this season, I don't understand the hatred

He was left high and dry against Coventry due to our bizarre tactics of letting 2 number 10s run at him all game so now lazy folk just slag him
Really liked Stewart and Wintle Saturday, proper central midfield.

Want the ball and will snap when required.

Couldn’t be further away from what James was serving up first few games.

Yep i agree mate

Its not rocket science though really

2 proper central defenders, a specialist right back and 2 central midfield players and all of a sudden we win a game and keep our shape better

Hopefully all the Shoe Horning people into unfamiliar positions can now stop ✋

He's been pretty decent for us so far & it's up to the other candidates to take the shirt of him when they are given a chance.
